Chapter 35

Two Months Later

The lobby of the opera house was buzzing as the glitterati had filled the place for the opening of the National Ballet’s annual Christmas program. All the proceeds for opening night going to the Children’s Ward at St. Mungos hospital which was the only reason Harry Potter agreed to attend this thing. He never goes to anything like this for a couple of reasons he didn’t want people to pry into his life and he didn’t like wearing dress robes.

“Mr. Potter are you involved with the children’s charity?”
And you had to converse with other guest, “no I’m not. I just received an invite and it was for the children so I said why not.”

The man nodded, “we are so thrilled that you are doing well at the Ministry the country has such high hopes for you.”

“Well I just always put my best foot forward and hope to live up to everyone’s expectations,” he smiled awkwardly, “If you’ll excuse me.”

Harry rushed away in search of his date, his platonic date. He didn’t really have anyone else to ask but it was alright he liked his date very much.

“There you are. The powder room here is so lovely,” Luna smiled as Harry approached her. “Why are you looking frazzled?”

“I am, I hadn’t realized.”

“Relax everyone wants to meet you.” Luna was wearing this metallic purple and blue patterned robe and her long blonde hair was hanging straight down from beneath the head wrap of the same fabric. She looked odd but she pulled it off so well.

“Hello Mr. Potter”

“Evening Mr. Potter,” random people said as they walked passed Harry and Luna.

“See,” Grinned Luna.

A light buzz began to overtake the room; something was happening that wasn’t the doors opening for them to be seated

“Mrs. Malfoy!”

The press in the corral was going crazy. Just as everyone else did Harry turned his attention to the door. Ginny Weasley had entered the room; she was all smiles as people greeted her. That assistant or whoever he is that follows her around everywhere was right behind her. People greeting him too as if they knew him. Someone who worked the event guided her towards the press corral.
She took off her long black coat and handed it to her assistant, fussed her hair a bit and then went and stood on the red carpet to have her photo taken. She looked so natural and comfortable in the spotlight. She looked stunning in her black sequin thing and the loose waves in her hair.
Harry had seen in the papers she had cut her hair but it’s grown out and he thought it was looking much better.
She looked amazing; you wouldn’t even be able to tell that just over three month ago she was involved in a tragic sports accident.

By the time she was out of the corral, the doors to the theater were opened and people began to proceed inside. She and her assistant were ushered upstairs to where the private boxes are.
He hoped for a chance to talk to her, he was glad that she was ok and would really just like to speak with her. He would have to hope for a chance afterwards. There was a reception after and he had planned to skip it but now he was going to make an appearance.

“Have you talked to her,” Luna asked pulling Harry’s attention back.

“No I haven’t she doesn’t want to speak to me.”

“I don’t think she’s trying to be cruel, I think she’s just trying to get you to understand that she’s moved on. It’s nice really since you can’t stand seeing her with someone else.”

“I just wish I knew she was ok.”

“She’s told that she is multiple times.”

“I just don’t believe it.”
“Well then, that sounds like something that you need to work on for yourself. To give you that piece of mind,” she looped her arm through his, “let’s go find our seats. I hear this is supposed to be a good one.”

Borden landed on the roof of Ginny’s building with a light thud. Ginny opened the door and climbed out.

“I was coming round…” Borden said.

“It’s alright,” said Ginny, “you just get yourself home and have a good night.”

“Thank you, you too Mrs. Malfoy”
Ginny went over to the building door and unlocked it, she walked down the stairs to the door that went into the building and unlocked that one as well. She went down the stairs to level two and unlocked the door and proceeded into the apartment. She walked up the short hall and stepped into her living room.

She stopped in her tracks. There was a rather attractive brunette sitting awfully close to Draco on the sofa, they were sharing a magazine and there were a couple of glasses of wine.
“Hello love,” Draco said looking up at her.

“Get out,” she said sharply to the woman.
“Mrs. Malfoy this isn’t what you think,” the woman said quickly.

“Uh huh, get out,” she repeated.

“Um Draco, I’ll just leave you with the catalogue,” she got up and grabbed her bag. “Have a good night.”
Draco picked up his glass of wine and leaned back, “do I detect a hint of jealously love?”

“Of course not,” she took off her coat and draped it across the sofa opposite the one Draco was sitting on.
“You look lovely”

She was wearing a long black sequin dress, the bodice was sheer with a deep V neck, and it was belted with a long skirt. She hoped that wearing black would hide that she’s gained eight pounds since she’s been out of commission. She’s been back at practice for two weeks and she could feel the difference the weight had on her game.

“Thank you.”

“I’ve been meaning to have the locks changed. What are you doing here?”
“Oh lover, you know I came to see you.”

He smirked, “I knew you couldn’t stay away.”

“Of course you did, especially since you knew I would hear about the pyrotechnics display you put on at my lawyers office.” Draco showed up to their summons and negotiations began and they came to a settlement. This morning Ginny signed her divorce papers and later in the afternoon Draco was supposed to sign his. They really didn’t want to be around each other so they were doing it separately but apparently Draco showed up to her lawyer’s office set the papers on fire and sent them flying around the room.

“They should really make paper less flammable.”

“It has occurred to me that you are just looking for a fight.”

“Oh am I,” he stood up, “would you care for a glass of wine?” He went over to the bar to refill his glass.
“No thank you and yes you are.” Ginny whipped out her wand and pointed it at Draco; she sent him flying across the room. She walked over to him and lifted him up by the collar “It’s not a bad idea; our story hasn’t had a wand battle. So let’s take care of this now.” She tugged him up even farther and kept heaving. She lifted him up off the floor, his feet dangling above it.

Draco was surprised, “you’ve gotten strong babe.”

“It’s magic love,” she let go of him and left him floating. “And you haven’t seen anything yet.”

She forcefully made him drop to the floor.

“Ah, you know I wouldn’t have thought this of you,” Draco climbed to his feet and massaged his lower back. “I really don’t want to get into this with you.” She threw another spell at him and Draco blocked it. “But I will,” he sent her skidding backwards and she slammed against the wall. He stormed across the room and got in her face, “don’t try to move it’s useless.”

“Oh really”

Ginny unfroze herself and pushed him away.

“Whoa oh, someone’s been working on their wand work.”

“Uh huh,” she sent another spell at him. They began firing spells back and forth at each other.

“Excuse me Mr. Malfoy, you requested tea,” Lydia came into the room holding a tray completely startled by the sight of the two of them dueling.

“Thank you Lydia,” Draco said as he kept fighting, “you can just put it back in the kitchen and that will be all for tonight.”

“Very good sir, Mrs. Malfoy nice to see you, that’s a beautiful dress.”

“Thank you, how’s your son enjoying his year at Hogwarts,” Ginny asked politely as she kept fighting with Draco.

“He’s a bit stressed about his O.W.Ls but that’s to be expected.”

“He’ll do great they’re not that bad.”

“It’s really all about the practical,” chimed in Draco, “if he can actually do magic he’ll pass.”

“Well you two have a good night,” Lydia said backing out of the living room.

“Come on love, you’re supposed to tire me out!” Draco taunted.

“It’s quite easy not to when you’re holding back, Expelliarmus,” his wand flew out his hand. “Would you like me to punch you? Is that what it’s going to take?”

“I am not going to hit you,” Draco said confidently.

“So hex me or curse me”

“I would never do that to you.”

“No you just won’t let me go,” Ginny brandished her wand and Draco winced, it was as if someone had slapped him.

“Nice try,” she did it again and again he winced, “this isn’t going to work.”

“I’m the bitch, let me go!” She did it again. Ginny had no idea what had come over her. Lately she’s been feeling as if she is losing herself.

“No,” he said confidently.

She didn’t know why she was doing this; she threw the spell at him again. Yet again he winced. She didn’t like seeing him like this but she wanted him to hit hurt, to tell her she’s wrong.

12 Grimmuald Place

Harry entered his house; he had popped Luna home and then came back to the dark house he was sharing with Neville. He wandered into the living room and turned on the lights. He plopped down the couch.
This night began as just a lovely evening to support the children. He figured Christmas was in a few weeks he might as well help those kids having to spend their holidays in the children’s ward. But unfortunately his love showed up and he was reminded of the horrible mistake he made. Not just breaking up with Ginny but going to the reception. Ginny didn’t show up apparently she ducked out right after the performance.

“Hey, how was the ballet,” the pajama clad Neville asked Harry joining him in the living room.

“It was ok”
“Not worth putting on your party clothes,” he sat down in the arm chair.

“Did Luna at least have a good time?”

“Yes, I knew she would she likes the ballet that’s why I asked her… Ginny was there.”
“How is she?”

“I don’t know I didn’t get a chance to speak with her.”

“I’m sure she was just busy being in the spotlight,” Neville shrugged.

“Do you know how she is?”

“No I haven’t seen in since summer when I went by to check on her at her parents,” explained Neville. “But according to the sports section she’s back at practice so I would assume she’s doing really well.”
“You were there, is it really all hunky dory?”

Neville sighed, “Harry don’t do this to yourself.”

“But I just have to know.”

“I get it but she’s made absolutely no effort to include you in her life.”

Harry took a deep breath and held it for a bit and then slowly let it out, “I suppose you’re right.”

“Their home is lovely it’s quite grand it’s not like this house or anything but a lot of pricey stuff, fine art, goblin made chandelier in the living room. Malfoy is loaded so it’s to be expected.”
“Yeah loaded with shit, there’s just something…”

“Harry I was surprised by this whole thing to. Never in a million years would you expect anyone of the Weasley clan to marry a Malfoy,” said Neville. “But just from the outside looking in they’re happy, I think they honestly found something that works.”
“I should go speak to her.”

“No you shouldn’t,” Neville retorted, “for two reasons number one she told you not to and number two you always seem to end up in a fight with her husband.”

“I know but this is an extenuating circumstance.”

“Are you dying?”

“Then there are no extenuating circumstances.”

Harry ignored him and stood up; “I’ll be back in a bit” he left the sitting room and headed for the front door.

“This is a bad idea,” Neville shouted after him. He heard the front door close and he shook his head. He went over to the fireplace and tossed in some floo powder, “Malfoy residence.”

Neville stuck his head in the green flames and looked out into Ginny’s apartment. He couldn’t see much of anything because the furniture had been moved. There was a chair in front of the fireplace.

“Yes” Ginny appeared from around the furniture. “Neville what’s up it’s not the best time.”

“Sorry to disturb you so late but I thought I’d let you know Harry is on his way over.”

She rolled her eyes, “Why?”
“Oh you know the usual, unanswered questions, hard headed.”

“Got it, takes for the heads up.”

“Yup, have a good night.”

When Neville disappeared from the fireplace Ginny sighed and stood up, “did you hear that babe? We’re going to have an unwanted visitor.” She said to Draco who was currently floating around the chandelier. “He’ll be here in a moment; you better get down and fix yourself.”

She flicked her wand and he fell onto the coffee table, the force smashing it. Draco groaned in pain as the doorbell rang.
Ginny opened the golden door. “Good evening Mrs. Malfoy, Harry Potter is here to see you.”

“Tell him to go away”

“He says he’s not going anywhere”

Ginny rolled her eyes, “send him up.” She went over to the lift and waited for it to arrive. When the doors opened, “Harry, what do you want? I told you I didn’t want to see you and it’s not a very good time.”

Harry stepped off the lift, “what’s going on, you look a bit disheveled.”

Her hair was a mess and there was a rip in her dress. “That’s none of your business, what do you want?” She was not in the mood for this mess.

“This is a really nice place.”

“Stop with the pleasantries, what do you want?” She was losing patience.

“Are you sure you’re okay because you seem… more sinister than I have ever seen you,” he was a bit worried she looked like her evil twin and it wasn’t just the dark eye liner.

“I’m going to tell you one more time that I am fine,” Ginny said through clinched teeth, “then you are going to get to the point before I get very un-fine.”
“Well I haven’t seen you in almost a year and you look well-ish…I saw you at the ballet and was hoping to have the chance to say hello but apparently that didn’t work out… I was worried about you when you had your accident. I just felt like I needed to see for myself. You know, no matter what I would be devastated if anything ever happens to you,” Harry said sincerely.

Ginny took a deep breath, “I know but I really wish you would respect my wishes.”

“I apologize… it’s also been brought to my attention that you have been acting weird.”

“Brought to your attention by whom?”

“You mother said that you’ve been avoidant and she hasn’t seen you with Malfoy.”

Ginny rolled her eyes, “I avoid my mother a lot, despite my efforts she’s still a gossip and worried more about people who aren’t her children.”

“That’s not fair.”

“No, what’s not fair is she’s not accepting of me.”

“I also heard you came home from Africa and moved in with your parents.”

“Briefly because I needed help and my mum was at home to help me.”

“She also mentioned Malfoy wasn’t there,” he was really trying to have a calm conversation with her. He didn’t understand this madness and he was trying hard to keep his temper in check.

“Because he had other obligations, it’s none of your business how me and my husband schedule our lives.”

“You haven’t been wearing your ring”

Ginny smirked, “been following me in the papers have you,” she held up her left hand, she wasn’t wearing her engagement ring but her wedding band was there. She hadn’t removed it because as far as the world was concerned all was well in her marriage. “I don’t always wear my rock, it’s enormous. If this is all you came for, you can go.”

“That’s not all”

“Well all of this is old news and I really don’t want to get into this right now.”

“It’s just I haven’t had a chance to speak with you.”

“Yes because I asked you to stay away from me.” She was exasperated, “And is it that you haven’t had a chance to speak with me or you haven’t had a chance to berate me about my marriage because I haven’t seen you since before I got married?”

“Don’t answer that,” she interrupted him. “Because I know I’m right, I didn’t choose you, get over it. Your Harry Potter I’m sure there are thousands of women who would love to date you because this is really pathetic!”

“You do realize you’re married to Malfoy,” he snapped. His temper was in full flair, he couldn’t take it anymore, “I don’t understand what could have possibly gotten into you! He was involved in something that caused members of your family to be killed!”

“I don’t need you to remind me of what he’s done! If that’s what you came here for then you can leave,” she hissed pressing the button to call the lift back.

“No Ginny I need to know why, why him!”

“POTTER” Malfoy sneered joining them in the foyer, “you were asked to leave now get the hell out of my house!”

“Don’t start with me Malfoy!” He did a double take, “What the hell happened to you?” He looked awful as if he had been in a fight.

“Nothing, you come into my house and shout at my wife you better be glad that I don’t do more than yell at you! Now get the fuck out!” Draco pushed him into the open elevator.

Harry looked at Ginny, “Gin this isn’t over.”

Draco blocked his view of Ginny, “Yes it is!” He made the doors close.

“Draco I…” she didn’t finish as he grabbed her by the waist and pushed her against the wall forcefully. The Dale Collins mood painting shook and now hung at a slant. His eyes were flashing with anger and normally this would be when she gave him some space but they were mid fight and he was standing so close to her there was no space. His warm breath was on her face as she looked up at him.

“Why was Potter in my house?”

“To be a jackass”

“If he comes near the property again I am going to have him arrested for trespassing.”

Ginny rolled her eyes, “I don’t think that’s going to work… at least not without a restraining order.”

“I can make that happen.”

“Don’t bother”

“It’s not worth it”

“Draco I am not interested in Harry”

“So you say”

“So I know,” she pushed against him trying to get free but he just shoved her back against the wall. “Don’t make me…” he snatched her wand out of her hand toss it across the room as if it was nothing but a stick. “That was uncalled for.”

“You unarmed me and hit me in the face.”

“That was called for.”

“You aren’t going to do it again.”

Draco was seething; he just let Ginny beat him up. He was angry, he was hurt emotionally and physically but for some reason he still didn’t want to let her go. He supposed this is what Sophie meant when she said that love is complicated because this was really complicated.

“Put your hands above your head,” he ordered.

“Who do you think you’re talking to Malfoy” she had no idea what he was playing at.

“You, now put your fucking hands above your head.”

Ginny just stared at him and magically her hands flew above her head. She never took her eyes off him, “someone’s gotten more advanced with their wandless magic.”

He ran his hands from hers down her arms. He could feel her shivering beneath his touch. He smirked smugly and kept his hands moving. “Am I better than Potter?”

“You know I’m not answering that,” they never broke eye contact it was kind of hot.

“I know you liked what I did to you.”

“I told you I did.”

“I know but you keep coming back. We don’t touch but you won’t leave my bed. You find me hard to resist.”

“Let my hands down.”

“No, it’s my turn to have the fun.”

“You said you weren’t going to hit me.”

He smirked, “that’s not the type of fun I’m talking about.”
“Let my hands down”

He ignored her and kissed her softly on the neck, she shivered again. “Did you buy this dress?”

“Yes why?”

“That’s a good Malfoy,” he lifted the skirt and tore a slit in it. Sequin falling everywhere. He began to explore her body.

She didn’t want to but she couldn’t help but sigh as he ran a hand along her breast and found its way beneath her skirt. A smirk came across his lips when he felt that she was wet. “Wipe that smirk off your face,” she gasped as he applied pressure to her.

He moved his finger back and forth. He watched Ginny squirm and try to keep her eyes from closing. He lessened his stroke and she moved against his finger. “You like that?”

She closed her eyes, “yes.”

“Did Potter make you cum long and hard?” He increased his movements and he felt her flinch.

“No,” she said breathlessly as she felt herself getting close to her release. He stopped moving his hand, she wanted him to continue.

“No, what”

She opened her eyes, “you fucked me better than Potter, now let me cum you arrogant mother fucker!” Malfoy went back to work on her and moments later she pushed herself into him as she swelled from an orgasm.

He kissed her on the neck and stepped away from her.

“Please let my hands down,” she asked softly.

He released her and her arms dropped, she shook out her arms and then immediately slapped him, “don’t you ever do that to me again!”

“Make you cum,” he chuckled.

She slapped him again, “when I say get your hands off me, you remove them!”

“Well technically you told me to let your hands down not to remove mine.”

They just stood there staring at each other. Things had really gotten out of hand. They immediately threw themselves at each other; they kissed as if their lives depended on it. Draco lifted Ginny up and she wrapped her legs around him and he carried her to his bedroom.

As the pleasure wore off the awkwardness ensued. Ginny sat up and began to look around for her clothes. She climbed out of bed, found her underwear and put it back on.  She turned around in search of her dress and was unnerved by Draco lying on his side staring at her.

“You’re going?”

“Yes, this was a mistake Draco.”
“Or a revelation”

“Tension causing passion is not a revelation.”

“It’s chemistry”

Ginny sighed, “I messed up. I’m sorry for this and earlier for beating on you and ruining your date.”

“I wasn’t on a date that was Deena my art dealer,”he sat up in bed.

“Oh, well apologize to her for me I was just pissed at you.”

“Yes I gathered. You stormed in all glamorous.”

“I went to the Ballet,” she smiled slightly, “it was lovelier than I remember.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

She picked up her dress from the floor, “it was to benefit the children’s ward at St. Mungos. And my dress is ruined, I actually liked this.”

“You can just repair it”

“Yeah but repairo doesn’t work well for clothes I’ll take it to a seamstress.” She put the tattered gown back on and then sat on the edge of the bed.

“When I realized I liked you I completely freaked out,” chuckled Draco. “I thought I was losing my mind because it seemed so impossible. I did some stupid things and hurt people.”

Ginny turned around to look at him, “what people other than me since you won’t divorce me.”

“Astoria Greengrass, I began an affair with her.”

“Because you were into me?”

“Yup, I suppose I was running from it. Unfortunately Astoria liked me and even before my meddling father got involved. She’s annoying but I shouldn’t have done what I did.”

She climbed further on the bed and fully turned around so she could see him, “Why are you telling me this?”

“I don’t know… I suppose I just want you to know when it all began.”

“I believe you love me that’s not the problem.”

“I know the problem is you don’t love me… when you fell… I thought for a moment that I was going to lose you. It’s quite funny that the declaration of love is what ultimately ended this.”

“This would have ended eventually that’s usually what happens to things that begin with a lie.”

“Except we didn’t lie, yeah sure to the world but to us the ones in the relationship we’ve been quite honest about what this is.”

Ginny looked down at her hands and began to nervously pick at her perfectly manicured nails. She really had come along way; the most she used to do to her nails was clean them. Now they way were painted a deep red to go with her sultry look for the night. “We haven’t been honest… well you haven’t because you didn’t tell me immediately when you fell for me. You knew before we got married,” she looked up at him from beneath her eyelashes.

Draco climbed out of bed and pulled on his boxers, “are you asking if I trapped you?”

“I’m not asking but apparently you were in love with me when we got married, which explains why you kicked that bint Cho Chang to the curb.”

“Don’t call her that she’s cool.”

Ginny smirked, “she’s cool?”

“That look on your face is why I broke up with her. I really wanted to be with someone, I felt like I was ready and Cho was there.”

“Where was she that she was who you honed in on?”
“She works at the law firm where I had my internship.”

“Good for her”

“What does it matter apparently you were sleeping with my friend.”

“I ended it.”

“You could have slept with anyone why him”

“Well at first it was because he was interested and ok with us just being causal.”

“At first”

“Yes we ended up liking each other but I ended it and I never saw anyone else and he was the only person I messed with during our relationship. The difference is that he hasn’t continuously gone after people who you were seeing.”

“Well he may start now”

“I don’t think so”

“Me either I was just saying that. But it wasn’t about Cho, it was about me. Yes I knew full well I was in love with you when we got married but I didn’t do it so you couldn’t get rid of me. I did it because we had a deal! You have been this great impact on my life not just publicly but in the way I see myself so yes I was so happy to have you as my wife. Although I have scratches on my back from a splintered coffee table I still love you and I am still glad you are my wife!”
Ginny’s eyes glazed over and she quickly climbed out of the bed. “I’m sorry, I messed up,” she wiped at her eyes before the tears could fall.

“I shouldn’t have done this to you. I’m an awful person… please just divorce me,” she couldn’t hold it, she cried. “Please divorce me.”

“Please divorce me!”

Draco watched her begin to cry, he wondered the last time he saw her cry. He couldn’t recall, there was something about her; something different, something scary, as she pleaded for him to divorce her.

“Please divorce me”

“What,” she cried.
“I’ll divorce you”

Ginny rushed over to him and hugged him, “thank you.”

He pulled away from her, “I’ll sign the papers now.”

“We have to go into the office to get another set.”

“No we don’t, your lawyer sent me another set as soon as I left the office.”

“They’re in the study, I’ll just go sign them,” he let go of her and left the room.
Ginny zipped up her dress and put her shoes back on. She joined Draco in the study.

“Here, you can take care of delivering these,” he handed them to Ginny.

She flipped through the pages to make sure he actually signed them. “Thank you for doing this… they’ll probably think I forged them.”

“No the paper they print magic legal documents on is special. It’s always enchanted so they know whether it’s for forged or not.”

“Your law school education is paying off.”

“Not really, I keep a lawyer on retainer I sign a lot of legal documents.”

She nodded in understanding, “I should head out.”

“Are you still staying with Dean?”
“No, I’ve rented a place among the muggles. It’s a temporary; I’m still looking for something permanent.”

“I bet he’s glad to have you out of his hair.”

“Yeah so he finally be a bachelor”

Draco raised an eyebrow, “What happened to the lovely Padma Patil?”

“They broke up”
“And here I thought those two crazy kids would make it.”

Ginny chuckled, “Thank you”

“You’re welcome”

She grabbed her coat from the sofa and left him alone in the flat.
