Review #1, by nott theodore The Scarf

6th March 2016:
Hey! I saw this in the recently added pages and couldn't resist clicking on it - and I'm so glad I did, because this was a wonderful story! I loved it!

If there's one non-canon pairing that I actually tend to read, it's Neville and Luna, because I can see those two together in canon, so I thought it was really cute that this started with Neville watching Luna and getting really jealous of Rolf because he wanted to be the one by her side and playing with her scarf. You wrote his jealousy really well - particularly the sort of irrational thoughts that it made him have, that were kind of out-of-character for Neville otherwise - and I absolutely loved his internal monologue. You captured his voice brilliantly in this story and I just had so much fun reading it. It honestly felt like Neville was the one speaking through the whole thing.

The concept of the story was great, too - if I hadn't read your author's note at the end, I probably wouldn't have even realised that there was a prompt behind the story. I love the idea of different people coming back to play Quidditch at Hogwarts in an attempt to promote house unity, and Neville being a new professor, and then Hermione's reluctance to tell him off despite it being almost second nature to her.

The circular structure was fantastic - I loved the way that it started and ended with a scarf and the subtle differences in colour revealing their house and maybe even what they mean to Neville - or will mean - eventually? It was so cute to see Hannah coming in at the end and grabbing Neville's attention that way.

This was brilliant and I really loved reading it - congratulations on a great first one-shot, too!

Author's Response: Hey! Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed reading the story. Neville and Hannah have a special place in my heart. At one point in time they were my OTP. It changes all the time. I actually can't see Neville and Luna together. Whenever I've tried to write them I get sidetracked and then end up putting him with Hannah. They either break-up, they realize they're better off as friends or Hannah is there and she loves him and he doesn't realize it until the end. Typical Neville I think.

The prompt was a little difficult at first but then it just came to me in one fell swoop. Writing is funny like that, isn't it?

Thanks so much for the lovely review!

Hey Deeds!

I was just scanning the new one-shot list and this happened to be on it. I needed something light and humourous, and I know you do humour sowell, so I simply had to read this. Also, Luna/Neville is one of my OTPs, but I also sort of like Neville/Hannah, so I had to see what you did with this.

I love how you've just completely nailed Neville's personality in this. He's shy and not at all confident in himself. He's into Luna, but instead of telling her so, he just sits and fumes as Rolf takes his place. I thought the detail of him remembering the courageous person he was during the was and wishing he could find some of that courage was especially nice.

Hannah was just absolutely adorable in this. Her charming the snitch to fly up Rolf's nose was a moment of pure beauty. I literally cheered out loud as I read it! This made me truly feel that she was perfect for Neville. (Which is tough since I really like him with Luna).

Also, the little detail about the scarves and their colors was cool.

My only bit of CC was more personal opinion than anything. I found Hermione particularly annoying in this. I know in cannon she can be bossy, but I never found myself outright annoyed with her. Here, she's just a bit overbearing for my taste.

All in all, I really enjoyed this! Thanks for a good read!

Author's Response: Hi Kaitlin,

Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I love Hannah and Neville! I like Neville and Luna too but something just clicks inside my brain for N/H. When I was writing they became my favorite pairing.

Hermione was supposed to be extremely annoying so I'm glad it bothered you to be completely honest. She's a grown woman now who is suddenly stuck reliving her youth. I think she would have been annoyed at the game because it's slightly ridiculous but I think because it's more of Neville's view point this is how he's seeing her at this point. His descriptions of everyone else are rather colorful.

Hello Dee,

Ysh here from the forums :) Thank you for the lovely reviews you left me!

I have to say this is such a refreshing Neville Longbottom voice, in fact the most refreshing version I've read. It's Post-war so he doesn't have to be dark, plus he has all the new found confidence coupled with old pre-existing self-doubt and his down-to-earthness making him positively endearing!
Especially this part - (Did I mention that? Newly appointed.) - shows how proud he actually is about being a Professor, right after he mentions how clumsy he used to be.

Also, all the jealousy. How ADORABLE!

with Professor McGonagall—I mean Hermione - Lol! This one is funny, and quite accurate. She did kind of remind me of the usual McGonagall - Lee Jordan exchanges during the Hogwarts matches.

McGonagall, playing in the match? Well, after being in two Wizarding Wars she does deserve this doesn't she? Did you put her on the team after reading JKR's Pottermore write up about her having been a good player?

but he too is stuck on a broom, shakily flying around without a care in the world.

I just closed my eyes and pictured that for a moment. Hilarious!

“You did that? Hannah Abbott, I would have never guessed.”

I did NOT expect that. I really did not! I love that Hannah jinxed the snitch to fly up Scamander's nose! It got Neville to notice her after all, didn't it?

Blue Ravenclaw scarf fades in comparison to the bright yellow Hufflepuff's... Nice!!

This fic was just so light hearted and fun, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you Dee!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the wonderful review and for participating in the review-a-thon.

I actually wrote this story a few years ago so it's completely different from my writing now. I deleted most of my stories (why--check out my profile about me on the forums and that'll give you your answer) about 3 years ago.

This was actually one of the first stories that I placed in a challenge so it's near and dear to my heart. It's funny. Light hearted and should not be taken seriously. I had no idea McGonagall was a good Quidditch player. I'll admit I do not go on Pottermore. I didn't like the interface when the website first came out and never went back on again. I don't know half of what people talk about now with all the new info released! I should get on that one day!
