Yes, the characters in this are the same, but that is pretty much where the similiarities stop.
Voldemort never became a Dark Lord. Dumbledore never went to him in the orphanage. The war never happened, and Harry's parents didn't die. Ron's father never went crazy over muggle inventions, so his name was never tarnished.
The trio, Harry, Ron and Hermione never banded together. Hearry was sorted into Gryffindor, as was Ron. Hermione was sorted into Slytherin, surprisingly.
Just because things are different, doesn't mean they aren't the same
