After chasing Lily Evans hopelessly, Remus tells James that he doesn't really love Lily at all and that the only reason he is infatuated is because of his desire for the unattainable. Much to James dismay, Sirius agrees. Peter on the other hand offers a out-of-character mature suggestion: James needs to retrace his steps to see if Remus is right. So James creates "The girl list".
