Severus Snape was never one for many words. He wasn't one for long winded speeches or touching heart to hearts. He wasn't the best at holding onto someone and understanding the concept of an 'emotion' - at least, that's what he'd like the world to believe.
Snape was a masterful liar, and extremely adept at holding in his feelings and making others believe he had a cold hard persona and almost no emotions. There were very few to ever see through his facade. And even fewer than he actually allowed through on his own.
