The battle continued to rage around her, the screams and sounds of spells being cast around her now fading away, muffled, like she was slipping slowly under water.
There was nothing extraordinary about this girl. A lucky break.
It seemed even good news was bad news during wartime... Tonks and Lupin were expecting a baby, but instead of a celebration, the news had brought about a smattering of tight smiles, and congratulations that sounded more like apologies.
“Put that useless stick away, girl, not that you know how to use it anyway,” he spat, closing the door behind him with a careless swish of his wand.
War was filled with decisions, and the best ones were rarely easy. Mistakes would be made. There would be casualties.
She turned back to her audience, jaw set, eyes flashing angrily.

Ginny’s lip trembled as Seamus roared, “People are dying! You could have died tonight, mate, and it’s only September!” he paused, exasperate, “Early September!”
A strained silence stretched over the group as the weight of the news sank in. Ginny pressed her fingers to her eyes, attempting to slow her pulse. Her heart felt like it was trying to beat right out of her chest.
