Hermione is living in a dark time. Leaving work one day, she goes home to quickly change, and go see a friend she has not laid eye upon for months. Leaving, she rushes to get there before the curfew, but meets trouble, and a strange man along the way.
Waking up after reliving that terrible night in her dreams, Hermione explains to her dear friend Neville of her ordeal the night before. Prefering to leave it to wonder, Neville asks to see Hermione's apartment. Putting her clothes away, her eyes fall on an old photograph, and she finds a warning.
The police have come for Hermione and Neville, but Hermione reaches back in her mind, and they are able to escape. We meet Stewart and Joseph, the two detectives on her strange case, and we also get to see those of the London Council--some of whom we have met before. V comes again for Hermione late at night, and has a "musical performance" to bring her to, that she will never forget.
Hermione returns to Neville's, and she decides to take V's advice to leave London. Neville is opposed to this move, but Hermione gets him to at least accept it for the time. She leaves, just as Neville receives a visitor, and she ends up in the middle of a pasture. Getting picked up in a tiny car by a strange man, she arrives at Rose Abbey to meet her friend whom she plans to stay with, and while there, hears a broadcast that begins a movement.
We follow Captain Shoemaker as he and the London Council reacts to V's broadcast. Stewart's insistence to see the Marker's prisoner, who is the only one who knows where this Granger woman is, lands Stewart into hot water with Mr. Malfoy and the Dark Lord, placing him in charge of also finding this "V". Stewart is granted permission to see the prisoner, and what he faces makes him start to question what is going on.
Back to Hermione, Ginny, and Fred, we hear their thoughts about the broadcast. Worry runs through Hermione's veins about Neville, and she gives him a phone call. All seems well, until she realizes a terrible truth. The three try to cope with the news, but it is very tough. They go and see another survivor from their Hogwarts days, and discuss the revival of The Resistance movement in light of V's broadcast. V also makes a sudden appearance, moments before another guest arrives at Rose Abbey.
