***Chapter 9

Hermione woke up on Saturday with a start. She got dressed and bewitched her hair to be curly not bushy. She even put on a little bit of makeup. Today was the day that she was going to kiss Ron. This was the day that they would officially be a couple. She just knew that this was the day. She looked over at Ginny who was going to go to Hogsmeade today as well. She was still asleep.

“Ginny wake up, Hermione called to her before walking out into the common room. A lot of people were talking sleepily about where they were going to go and a lot of the third year Gryffindors were even more excited about going there for the first time. Hermione made herself comfy in a chair next to Neville.

“Hiya Neville, How are you?” Hermione asked Neville making conversation.

“I’m doing pretty good. How are you?” Neville asked her. Hermione sighed and answered.

“I’m doing fantastic,” She said thinking about Ron. She never thought she could feel this way about a boy and never did she think that she would fall in love with Ron.

“You haven’t fought with Ron all week. Did you finally discover your hidden feelings for each other?” Neville said quietly.

“How come everyone around us knew we were meant to be together before we did?” Hermione asked Neville smiling.

“You were oblivious weren’t you?” He said chuckling a little. Hermione laughed.

“Yea, we were. I mean we aren’t together yet but I imagine we’re on our way.” Hermione explained watching Ron and Harry descend the stairs from the boy’s dormitory. Neville watched her watch Ron come closer.

Hermione thought Ron looked so good looking today. Every one of his hairs was falling in the right place and his eyes were gleaming. He looked so handsome it made Hermione shiver. She couldn’t wait to run her fingers through his hair and kiss him.

Ron looked at Hermione. She did something with her hair so it was curly and flowing nicely down her back. She looked so beautiful it was making him nervous. He calmed himself down thinking this is the same Hermione that he had known for years there was nothing to be nervous about.

“Hey Ron, Hey Harry,” Hermione said as they made their way over to them. She noticed how she felt comfortable saying hi to Ron first. They both said hi to Neville and Hermione. Ginny walked out of the girl’s dormitories. She had the same idea as Hermione and had put on make up as well as fixing her hair. Ron looked at Harry who was beaming at Ginny.

“I knew you would fancy my sister sooner or later,” Ron said nudging Harry in the ribs.

“Hey, Ginny,” Everyone said as she joined them. Just then there was a quite tapping on a nearby window. Seamus went over to the window and retrieved a letter from an owl.

“Hermione, it’s for you,” said Seamus who handed her the letter. Hermione opened it at once. It was from her parents. Ron read the letter over Hermione’s shoulder.

We are glad to hear from you. We are both doing fine but we miss you dearly. We’re hoping to see you over the Holiday, but until then study hard and have fun.

“Well that is good to hear then,” said Ron looking to see Hermione’s reaction.

“I can enjoy my day now,” she said with a smile. “Lets all go down now shall we?”

Hermione and Ron shared a carriage with Harry and Ginny. They all chatted about the school year and their O.W.L’s. Hermione looked at Ron and turned away quickly and blushed. He had been staring at her. When they finally arrived Harry and Ginny went a separate way than Ron and Hermione. Hermione notice the two of them holding hands as they made their way away from them.

Ron stopped walking and turned to face Hermione. “Where would you like to go?” He asked her.

Hermione braved herself to answer, “I don’t care as long as I’m with you.” Ron smiled and reached for Hermione’s hand. Ron led her towards Honeydukes. When they got there they looked around at all the sweets. Hermione had bought some for Ron and then Ron in turn bought some for her.

Next they went to the Three Broomsticks for some butterbeer. Hermione took a seat in a corner while Ron went to get the butterbeer. Hermione smiled and thanked him when he returned. He sat down and they became quiet.

Ron looked up at Hermione and blurted out, “You look really beautiful today.”

Hermione blushed and thanked him. “You look really good yourself.” She said returning the compliment. More silence. Hermione took a sip of her butterbeer and looked up at Ron who was looking out the window.

Hermione reached across the table and took his hand in hers. She turned it palm up. He looked at her wondering what she was up to.

“I’m going to read you palm,” Hermione stated.

“But you don’t have the “Inner-Eye.”” Ron told her mimicking Professor Trelawney. He enjoyed this break of silence. Hermione smiled and played along.

“But today I do.” She said looking at his palm. “I see you falling in love with one of your best friends.”

“I am not falling in love with Harry!” Ron shouted knowing what she meant. Hermione laughed.

Hermione continued with a misty voice. “No it is a girl. It is a very smart and pretty girl. You two will fall in love and get married. You two will also have many health Weasley babies.”

“Well my mother will be happy,” Ron said jokingly. “I really do like you Hermione.” Ron finished his butterbeer and looked at her for her response.

“I really like you too,” She said to him looking down at her last sip of butterbeer.

“My eyes are over here.”

Hermione looked up at him. She began to melt instantly. The look he was giving her was something she had never seen in Ron.

“Hermione…Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked her nervous for her reply.

“No,” She answered. Ron’s smile faded. “I want a kiss before I decide if I want to keep you.” Hermione said playfully. Ron’s smile turned into a smirk.

Hermione leaned over the table and Ron did the same. Her heart was pounding in her ears. Ron moved in closer. Hermione closed her eyes but the kiss didn’t come. She opened her eyes to find Ron sitting back in his chair.

“Hermione I want our kiss to not be in public,” Ron said nervously. “Come with me.”

Ron led Hermione into the woods where they had visited Sirius before. Ron stopped and turned to Hermione but he kept his eyes at his feet.

“My eyes are up here,” Hermione said to him. He looked up. Hermione wrapped her arms around his shoulders and Ron’s around her waist. They stood there for a moment gazing into each other’s eyes. The electricity was flowing between them. Hermione’s heart felt like it was just about to burst. That is when Ron leaned in and put his lips on hers.

Hermione’s throat became tight and her stomach was doing flips. Ron was shaking and his heart was pounding in his chest. He pulled away from her.

“Wow,” was all he could say.

“The answer to your question is yes. Yes I’ll be your girlfriend.” Hermione said breathlessly pulling Ron back for another kiss. Hermione knew that there would be hard times in the future but right now she felt like she was walking on a cloud and she knew she would always have Ron to keep her safe.
