They were running. All three of them were running so fast away from this ugly man who held his wand up running after them. Hermione knew that her parents couldn’t defend themselves against Lord Voldemort. She turned around and yelled “Stupefy!” and pointed her wand at the Dark Lord but he still chased after her and her parents yelling “Die Mudblood Die!!!”
Hermione sat upright in her bed. Her heart pounded with fear for her parents. Hermione looked at the clock and saw that it was just barely six o’ clock and she had gotten no more than four hours of sleep. She got dressed and decided to head toward the owlery to send a letter to her parents checking up on them. When she was finished sending the owl she went back to the common room and sat in a comfy chair and started to fall asleep.
She felt a slight shove on her shoulder. “Hermione wake up…you don’t want to sleep through class do you?” Hermione opened her eyes to find Ginny nervously waking her up. Ginny sat down in the chair next to hers.
“Hermione you really look horrible this morning…Did you sleep at all last night? I woke up and you weren’t in your bed.” Ginny said looking at Hermione for her response.
“I uh…uh…I uh..” Hermione started to say but remembered what happened last night. She blushed and looked back at Ginny thinking of a lie. “I uh couldn’t sleep so I decided to work on some homework instead.”
“You were with Ron last night weren’t you. Did you kiss? You didn’t um you know did you?” Ginny said giggling thinking she figured it out. Hermione was flustered.
“I wasn’t with Ron last night. I was doing some homework, like I told you.” Hermione said knowing that it wasn’t fully a lie.
“You know you can tell me, just because I’m his sister doesn’t mean you cant tell me these things.” Ginny pleaded for information.
Hermione burst with anger. “I WAS NOT WITH RON LAST NIGHT OKAY!!!” She shouted scaring a couple of Gryffindors in the process. She stormed into her the girl’s dorm room and grabbed her books for Potions class and headed down to breakfast although she wasn’t too hungry.
Hermione was sipping juice and reading the Daily Prophet when both Ron and Harry came down to breakfast. Harry sat down next to Hermione and Ron sat across from them. Ron looked glum as to Harry taking his seat. Hermione looked at Ron who looked at her and blushed. Hermione looked away. This couldn’t get worse. No one talked for a few minutes, which was usual since the boys stuffed their faces first off anyways.
Harry looked at Hermione and grinned. Hermione smiled weakly back and continued reading the Daily Prophet, which unusually didn’t have anything bad in it today. She folded it up and looked at Ron and said, “I had another bad dream again last night. It had my parents in it. We were chasing away from You-Know-Who and he was threatening to kill us all. Needless to say I didn’t get much sleep last night.”
“Are you okay now?” Harry asked her genuine concerned for her. He stuffed another bite of toast in his mouth while waiting for her reply.
“I guess so. I’m just a little scared.” Hermione told him not making eye contact.
Ron looked at Hermione. He wondered why she did not come sleep with him again after she had had the bad dream. She looked extremely exhausted this morning and he had an odd feeling something was bothering her other than her dream. Ron watched her scoot a couple inches away from Harry and closer to Neville who was on her other side. They must have had a row last night, Ron concluded and then began to eat an apple.
Potions could not have been worse. Hermione was at a table brewing a potion for energy next to Ron who was confused as to what he was supposed to be doing. Hermione who had already finished putting all her ingredients in turned to help Ron and explain. She was really close to him and her heart kept fluttering. He smelled good today and he looked cuter than ever but she felt a pang of guilt whenever she looked at him.
He was in a good mood today and kept making Hermione laugh. Harry noticed the two of them having a good time and poured way to much frog spleen into his potion, which ignited. Hermione and Ron looked over at him. He was covered in soot and his cauldron was on fire. Snape was furious and somehow guessed that it had been Ron and Hermione’s fault as well and took ten points from each of them. Harry looked glum and Hermione felt that it was her fault. For the rest of the class she didn’t talk.
The day seemed to drag on and finally at dinner it became even tenser. Ron had beaten Harry to sit next to Hermione and Harry was furious about it. Ron was clueless as to what went on the night before but he was getting the gist that something just was not right.
“Will you pass the butter please?” Ron asked shortly at Harry and then said, “That is if you don’t want to use it first.”
“No, you can have the butter.” Harry said putting an accent on butter as if Ron couldn’t have Hermione. Hermione pretended that nothing was wrong.
“Why are you two bickering?” She asked them getting sick of it all.
“I don’t know. Harry started it.” Ron said proving that he was oblivious to the real reason but Hermione knew Harry wasn’t.
Hermione did not finish her food but instead left the great hall altogether and headed towards the library. When she got there almost all of the tables were full of students. Draco Malfoy occupied the only one that wasn’t full. She looked at him and not caring whether he cared if she sat there or not, she sat down.
“I can’t share this table with a mudblood.” He said to her but she ignored him. “Did you hear what I said or are you deaf along with dirty?”
Hermione looked up and said politely. “Would you mind keeping quiet I’m trying to read?”
“Yes I’ll speak whenever I bloody hell want to and nothing you can say or do will stop me.” Draco said with an evil grin on his face. Hermione had too much on her mind to deal with this.
“Okay then, what would you like to talk about? How you are just trying to be tough because your precious daddy makes you or the fact that you hang out with buffoons?” Hermione said agrily storming out of the library. This day couldn’t get any worse. She walked up to the Gryffindor common room and then to the girl’s dormitories. She was so tired that she decided to go to bed early.
