As they reached the stage Hermione came to a stop in front of a man who was obviously the dj. She stood there patiently waiting for him to finish the conversation that he was imersed (sp? if not sorry) in. She cleared her throat and he looked up at her. A smirk lit his face as he looked her up and down. He suddenly noticed that she was still holding hands with the man next to her. What he didn't know was that the reason her hand was still in his was so that he wouldn't bolt. His smirk disappeared almost immediately and he asked her in an almost toneless voice, "Kamakaze or regular karaoke tonight?"
Hermione turned to the man next to her and gave him a questioning look. He was completely confused because he had never done karaoke before therefore had absolutely no clue what the man was asking. All he could manage was a stupid sounding, "huh?"
Hermione proceeded to explain what the terms meant, "Kamakaze karaoke is when I pick a song that I want you to sing and you pick a song that you want me to sing. The catch is that you don't get any say in what I pick and you don't get to know what I pick until they call you up to sing. Same goes with me. Now, regular karaoke on the other hand, you get to pick what song you want to sing. They have a large collection of songs usually and if you're not sure whether you know all of the words they have a screen where they have the words. It's really not as hard as you'd think."
He stared at her for a second contemplating which form of karaoke he'd rather do. Finally he took a deep breath. "How about we do two songs apiece. The first round we do regular so that we can pick a song that we know we'd be comfortable singing. Then we can do kamakaze karaoke since we'll be more comfortable and hopefully more drunk. What do you think?"
"Definately. Sounds terrific." she turned to the dj and nodded.
"Okay so you want to do regular then kamakaze right?" the dj looked at her with a rather belittling smirk.
"Yes. That's correct."
"Okay. Now all you have to do is look through this," he handed her a large binder which had the selection of songs. "there are pieces of paper and a couple of pens in the front pocket. You write your name on the top of the piece of paper. The name of the song goes underneath your name and then and then the artist who does the song, and the number that is placed next to the song in the binder. The same goes when you are doing kamakaze with the simple difference of putting not your name on the top of the paper but the name of whoever you are choosing the song for. Got it?"
"Yeah. I got it." Hermione gave him a look that said 'I'm ten times more intelligent than you are and you're asking me if I understand? Sure.' She grabbed the binder out of his hands and she walked towards a booth still dragging the handsome stranger behind her.
Hermione flipped open the binder and began looking for a song that she would enjoy singing. She looked up when she felt the man shifting next to her. She set the binder down and turned her body to his so that she was facing him.
"You know we've been here for over an hour now and I still don't know what your name is." she gave him a rather shy, questioning smile.
"It's Drake. Just call me Drake." he gave her a half smile. "And what do I call you?"
"Mione" she said blushing. "My friends call me Mione."
Drake held his hand out to her. "It's nice to meet you, Mione."
She smiled and accepted his hand. "Nice to meet you Drake." she smiled shyly again but her smile slipped slightly when, instead of shaking the hand that she offered he simply held it. Then he shocked her further still by raising her captured hand to his lips. He smiled at the look of pure confusion that crossed her face. 'So she's not used to being hit on. I wonder how someone so beautiful could not be.'
When he finally released her she turned her attention back to the binder so that she would have something to do with her hands. She hoped that he didn't realize how much that simple gesture unnerved her. That one simple gesture had totally undone her.
She reached over and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen out of the binder and wrote down her pick. Then she turned and handed the binder to Drake so that he could pick the song that he wanted to do. She slid out of the booth that she and Drake had been sitting at and walked over to hand the paper to the dj. When she reached the booth she saw that Drake was sliding out to give his paper to the dj as well. She sat down and watched him walk across the room. He was so handsome and sweet. She realized then that he reminded her of someone that she knew very well but she couldn't seem to place him. She knew that it would drive her insane if she continued to dwell on it so she turned her attention to the waitress who had just walked up to the table. She ordered to Poor Man's Bahama Mama's. Just as the waitress set the drinks down a harassed looking Drake walked up and sat down next to Mione. She took one look at his face and couldn't help but giggle. She hadn't giggled since her days at Hogwarts and it hit her how nice it was to feel so carefree and at ease again.
Drake walked over and sat down next to Mione. He had just had a woman hit on him. Usually he would have enjoyed it and flirted casually but this woman had been at least twice his age and twice his size (muscle wise). She had looked like if he had refused her she would have snapped him in half like a twig. He had ended up telling her that he was terribly flattered but unfortunately he was there with his fiance. Now Mione was laughing at him! No, he corrected, giggling. He had never heard any sound so sweet in his life. She seemed like an innocent school girl when she giggled like that.
He looked up and saw the woman who had hit on him standing across the room with her arms crossed over her chest. He leaned in towards Mione and whispered the entire story into her ear. She giggled even harder.
"Could you help me out here Mione and wear my ring until she leaves? Please?!?!" He then pulled a beautiful diamond and emerald ring off of his pinky under the table and handed it to her.
Mione's eyes widened but again she was overcome with a fit of giggles as she took it from him and put it on her hand under the table. Then she delibarately picked up her glass with her left hend making sure that the other woman had a good view of the ring on her finger. Drake leaned over and whispered his thanks to her.
After a few minutes of showing off for the woman that Drake had bumped into they fell back into easy conversation. They listened to all of the singers in turn and cheered on those who they thought sounded good. They apparently had the same taste in music as well since they both cheered for the same singers. Thirty minutes after Drake sat back down the dj got on stage.
"All right next up we have Mione singing Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. Everybody give it up for Mione. Come on up here sweetheart."
Hermione got on stage to the sound of everyone cheering. The stage lights accented her perfect complexion and figure very well. She smirked at Drake as the music began and she swayed her hips to the beat of the song.
She started the song off singing very softly, but as soon as the chorus started she began dancing more and more and began to sing louder.
"I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes
Til I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And break away
Out of the darkness
And into the sun
But I won't forget
The place I come from
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And break away."
For the rest of the song she had loosened up. She danced and sang loudly. During the second chorus she got off of the stage and walked up to Drake she kneeled on the bench and sang right to him. She put her hand on his cheek before getting up and sauntering back on stage. Just as the last note faded out everyone in the bar broke out in applause. There were even a few catcall and whistles going on.
She walked off with a seductive smile and walked back to her and Drake's booth. As she slid in next to him laughing as more catcalls followed her he slid an arm around her waist and hugged her. She had never had so much fun in her entire life.
