“WHAT THE HELL IS UP?” shouted Layla. Wow, Layla shouted? This is day to remember. Quick, somebody jot down the date. No, not me, I'm to tired. I mean for fucks sake, it's like 6 am. Looking at the clock, I then saw that it was actually 10 am. Oh well. It's practically the same time anyway. You know, I often think, if man created time, then how is there ever a right time? I mean how do we know that the clock that all other clocks are based of is correct? What happens if that clock is one second off? Or more? What happens then? Or what if…
Okay, back to the present. Abby is still screaming. I mean, g-d’s sake, can't she just shut up. So I told her this. In a few more words.
“SHUT THE FUCK UP, I’M TRYING TO FUCKING SLEEP. WHAT THE FUCK’S UP ANYWAY?” As you can tell, I love being woken up in the morning.
“DID ANY OF YOU REMEMBER THAT IT IS THE HOGSMEADE TRIP TODAY?” She screamed back.
I had forgotten about that, after last night. Once it had been sufficiently awkwardised (yes, that is a word) by Nalini saying that she fancied Albus, well… Layla and Kayla jumped on her, asking her all about it, while Abby tried to look enthusiastic. Layla and Kayla didn't notice anything, but I'm pretty sure Nalini did.
“Um… Abby? Why are you worried about that? Only Ro has a date.” Kayla asked.
“Actually…” Began Layla, at the same time Abby screamed,
“And we have to get her ready for it!”
“Yes LAYLA, what were you going to say?” Nalini asked, looking at Abby cautiously. Well that's new. Not that Abby noticed anything.
“Um… I got asked out. By Jack Bailey.” Layla muttered.
“That's great Lalie! But, why do you look so sad about that?” I asked her.
“Did you just call me Lalie?” She replied.
“Yes.” I answered. “And don't change the subject.”
“That's not who I like.” Layla blurted out. “But I couldn't say no because then I'd hurt his feelings!” Me, Abby and Nals rolled our eyes at the same time, while Kayla looked sympathetic. And that just about sums up our friendship. Only Layla (okay, and Kayla) would worry about hurting someone's feelings by saying no when they asked you out in a date.
“Well, who do you fucking like then?” Abby asked. Oh, look at that. She stopped shouting. Well done Lalie, you shocked her so much she forgot scream. Get a medal for her!
“As in, Maia’s twin brother?” Maia was a Hufflepuff in our year, one who I got along quite well with. I sat next to her in potions. She was really clever, and helped me a lot.
Layla nodded, and then said, “And I don't know what to do. Sam would never even look at me, and what if Jack wants me to be his girlfriend? Then what?” Honestly, my friends have such complicated love lives.
“Layla, just go along with it. It will be okay. Go with the flow. If Jack asks you out, say you'll think about, and we’ll help you, and if not, then it's fine anyway. And we’ll come up with a way of Sam noticing you.” Kayla said comfortingly. I swear, that girl should be a fucking motivational speaker.
Half an hour later, we rushed out of the dorm, both mine are Lalie’s hair (yes, Lalie is officially her new name) and makeup done by Abby, and our clothes picked out by Nalini and Kayla. If anyone had walked into our dorm at that moment, they probably would have thought that it was the other three who were going on dates instead of me and Lalie.
Anyway, I had to admit that I did look quite nice when they’d finished. I was wearing tight jeans with an off the shoulder white top (not that anyone would see that, it was flipping October for fucks sake), and Abby had actually managed to make my hair look reasonably nice. I mean, she had to use a ton of spells before it looked remotely presentable, but my hair now fell in neat red curls just past my shoulders.
We headed down to the kitchens to eat as we had missed breakfast. It was really weird. Nalini and Abby were stealing glances at each other but not talking, Kayla and Layla tried to act as though nothing was wrong, even though they could see something was up, and I just tried to ignore the awkwardness (which inevitably made it more awkward). Imagine if Nals and Abs sat down to talk, and the conversation they would have. I would hate to be there.
Hey, Abby, do you also fancy Albus.
So do I. Oh no, what are we going to do?
On second thoughts, I would love to be there. It would be hilarious. And now I'm laughing. Like a mad person. I'm pretty sure laughing to yourself is the first sign of madness. Oh well.
I met Adam in the entrance hall. He looked very hot in jeans and a jumper, and walked towards me as I came down the stairs. Greeting me with a kiss, we headed out into the bitter October air. Is it even meant to be bitter in October? Isn't October still meant to be in Autumn? It isn't normally cold in Autumn is it? I guess we are in Scotland. But still, it feels like it's like January, and I'm just going to shut up now because I'm over thinking things like usual.
“Are you okay Rose? You seem a bit distracted.” Adam asked as we walked to Hogsmeade.
“Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking.”
“How cold it is even though it's only October.” I replied, and Adam laughed and kissed my cheek.
“Are you excited for Halloween next week?”
“What is it?”
“The party!” How could I have forgotten? Every year me and my cousins threw a Halloween party, but because of the stress of all the school work that the teachers were setting, I had completely forgotten about it.
“You're still going to do that? Even though you're head girl?”
“Of course I am! Just ‘cos I'm head fucking girl doesn't mean that I can't have fun! Anyway, I'd probably be disowned if I didn't do it. I mean, Teddy started it years ago, and even Victoire went to them! If I didn't at least go to it then I would be the black sheep in the family.”
“Well, can I come?” Adam asked, grinning.
“Of course! Start spreading the word! Only fourth years and up though remember.”
After that we walked in a comfortable silence for a bit, him holding my hand. My face was starting to go numb though, and I hoped that we were going to get wherever we were going soon. Otherwise I think I might get frostbite. Okay, that's a creepy thought. I never want to get frostbite. I wonder what it would feel like. I mean, not that I want it to happen to me. But, like, would it hurt? Can you feel your toes if they’re frozen? And then I go back to why is it so cold outside anyway? IT’S FUCKING OCTOBER.
Suddenly, Adam stopped right outside… Madame Puddifoot’s. Surely he wasn't going to take me in here? I hated this place. I went here once with a failed date in fifth year, and I vowed never to come back. It’s too pink. Like, way to pink. Please, don't take me in…
“Come on then!” Adam said cheerfully, pointing towards the door. “Ladies first.” Shit. Putting a smile on my face, I entered, trying not to wince at all the pink. It's not that I don't like the colour pink, it's just that too much of it can be overwhelming.
After half an hour I was ready to die. Not because Adam was bad company, just because I hated the cafe. I was also starting to get the feeling that Adam didn't know me at all. It was quite annoying really, but I went along with it.
“How was it?”Kayla pounced on me as soon as I walked in.
“Hello to you to.”
“How was it?” Kayla asked again.
“Yes. I mean, he was really nice and stuff, but I don't think he understands me.”
“Give it time. You only just got together!” I smiled at her gratefully.
“What about you? Where is everyone anyway?”
“Abby’s in the bathroom, Nals is in the kitchen, and Layla’s still out.”
“You didn't answer my first question.”
“Do you really want to know?” Kayla asked.
“Well,” Kayla lowered her voice. “It was a nightmare. For some unknown reason Abby and Nalini were being kind of weird around each other. They barely spoke the whole time we where there, then we came here and Nalini went straight to the kitchen. Do you know what's up?”
“Yes.” I sighed. “Unfortunately.”
“Well?” Kayla asked.
“They both like Albus.” At first Kayla was speechless. Then she said,
“Shit.” Even with everything going on, that made me smile, as I remembered that until we were in third year, Kayla had a deal with Layla that neither of them would swear. Instead they would say ‘C-R-A-P’. When I say they, I mean for the first two weeks, as Layla broke it in first year, so it was really just Kayla.
“Yep.” I replied.
“What do we do?”
“Nothing we can do. It will work out. I promise.”
“I guess.” Kayla sighed. “Oh, and there's something else that I wanted to talk to you about. Have you noticed that Malfoy has backed off this year?”Thinking back, I realised that Kayla was right. There was that one time at the beginning of the year when he asked me out, but since then, there hasn't been a peep from him. Not included when I went to scream at Albus (I still haven't forgiven him by the way).
“Wow. Thank g-d. He finally got the hint.” I grinned. Just then Abby came out the bathroom.
“Hi Ro!” She grinned.
“How was your date?”
“It was great thanks!” After all, if I told her the truth she would probably wouldn't believe me, or would offer the same advise as Kayla just gave me. The door suddenly opened and Nalini walked in, hesitating for a moment when she saw Abby.
“Hi!” she smiled back, showing no sign of her hesitation a second ago. Well, I guess I should just go along with it.
It will all work out. Somehow.
I only own the plot and the characters that you don't know, everything else belongs to the brilliant J.K Rowling.
I'm so so so sorry for the long wait. My only excuse is... exams, which are now thankfully over! Yay!
If any of you were confused, you pronounce Kayla as Kay-la, and Layla and Lie-la.
Thank you all so much for over 1000 reads! It makes me so happy. Anyways, please review!
