They could be the cutest couple, the way he looks at her and the way she feels when he's near … but he's an asshole. He and she have so much in common ... but they agree on practically nothing … though opposites do attract … except when the guy is a jerk. Though he's really hot, and their babies would be so attractive … He could never be a dad on account of he's an ass. Though he does have a nice ass. And when he puts his arms around her there's nothing better ... except when Jason did it ... no Sirius did it better. Besides it's not like she could go back to Jason.
"And what do you think causes the potion to bubble? Miss Forester?" Slughorn asked. He was grumpy today Hailey noted, it might do some good to pay attention. But when she stared to think all she could see was those deep grey eyes.
"Is it the snake venom, professor?" Melanie Forester answered.
Then there's what Jason said, “I see the way he looks at you." Hailey didn't know what to think of that. The way he looks at her. What does that mean? Jason used to agree with her all the time on everything including on how annoying Sirius was. So why does he suddenly think something else. And what way does he look at her, she had no idea. Was it a good way? Or was it like the way he looks at his previous conquests? Or was it just that fact that he looked at her as a friend now instead of an enemy?
"Wrong Forester. The snake venom reverses the bubbling. If you had been paying better attention you would have known that!" Slughorn practically yelled at the poor confused girl. Melanie ruffled through her notes and turned bright red when she saw that he was right. Slughorn looked around the classroom, everyone avoided his eye contact as not to be chosen next. Suddenly he stopped facing Hailey, meaning he had decided to call on her: "Miss Rogers would you care to answer the question?"
Hailey flush, she hadn't been paying any attention and she hated looking dumb. Lily was too busy taking notes to even realize her best friend was in trouble. Hailey stammered some gibberish. While Slughorn added: "Or are you too busy with something else to pay attention in my class?"
Hailey stammered some more. The Sirius came to her rescue.
"Or maybe professor you could stop being a jerk?"
At this Slughorn spun around shocked. Nobody talked to him this way. He screamed: "20 points from Gryffindor!"
He continued to yell at Sirius for his rude behavior and gave him detention. But he didn't say anything more to Hailey and she was thankful for that. She realized then that this was the second kind thing Sirius had done for her that day. Had he changed? Hailey couldn't believe it. Sirius had been an ass too long, he couldn't just change in a week. So she just put that thought aside and continued with her day.
Then she continued her week. And Sirius tried to. He kept being nice to Hailey, but she kept rejecting his kindness. He'd say she looked nice and she'd just look at him like he'd told her that her hair was on fire; and she'd walk away. He'd stopped Malfoy from slapping her ass and she'd just pretended he wasn't there; and she'd walked away. But the last time he saved her from a rude quidditch comment there was a something in her eyes, a flicker of recognition; and then she'd walked away. But that flicker gave Sirius hope. It told him that she couldn't ignore him forever.
So Sirius finally decided he had to confront her, the only problem was how to do it. He knew he just had to go for it. One day she was studying in the library somewhere he rarely went and somewhere she had been often recently. Just to see her. He thought she looked adorable when she was cuddled up on the couch with a good book. That day he sat in the library pondering how he could get her back, or just to talk to him at least.
He thought maybe he could just walk up to her and talk to her, but that was easier said than done. So he sat on the other side of the library thinking of a plan. Just then she got up and walked out of the library passing him on the way by. When he saw her though he almost jumped up and yelled for her, but he didn't want to seem desperate, even though he was. He wanted her so bad. So he casually got up and said, "Hailey."
Hailey turned around and didn't really seem to register that it was him who'd called her. She didn't say anything so when she started to walk away, like she had so many times before, he walked up to her and kissed her. He'd missed kissing her, he missed that feeling he got whenever they were this close. She'd missed it to. They stood in the middle of the hallway kissing in a total bliss. Her hands ran through his hair pulling his head closer to hers. He had his hands on her back pulling her body closer to his. The heat in the kiss was desperate.
Then Sirius broke the kiss. He smiled taking in all her beauty. She smiled because she missed his smile. They stayed intertwined for what seemed like decades; just staring into each other’s eyes. A group of first years walk by and made disgusted faces. Hailey and Sirius started to laugh. His hands never left her waist and he continued to hold her close. She looked into his eyes, still smiling, and leaned her head against his chest.
"I missed this." she sighed. His heart picked up speed. She found it adorable how much power she had over him.
"What should we do about that?" he asked with a smirk. She couldn't help but giggle, he was so adorable.
"I'm not really sure." was the only response she could come up with.
"Me neither. I've never missed anyone this much. How can feelings that used to be so amazing when we were together, hurt so badly when we aren't." he rambled. Realizing he was in fact starting to ramble, he slowed down, "So I'm starting to think that maybe we should get together ... since that felt really great ... and I really ... I mean really ... sort of ... like you ... a lot ... OKAY STOP LAUGHING THIS IS REALLY HARD FOR ME I'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE."
But Hailey couldn't stop laughing, she couldn't take Sirius seriously when he was so nervous. So not the Sirius she was used to seeing. Though she kind of liked this version. Sirius couldn't stay angry at her when she had such a cute laugh, so he too started laughing. And there they stood holding each other in the hallway laughing like a couple of crazies.
She smiled, grabbed his hand and led him to the top of the astronomy tower.
Further down the hall stood Charlotte and Stacy jaw dropped. They looked at each other and at the same time mouthed, what the fuck was that?
And once Hailey and Sirius were out of ear shot, Stacy and Charlotte exchanged theories. Were they friends with benefits or frenemies with benefits or just plain enemies with benefits? Had they actually been secretly dating? But those stories weren’t exciting, so they tried to dig deeper. Maybe they’d slept together once and now she’s pregnant. And Sirius was going to support her because he’s a gentleman. Stacy was content with this because it meant Sirius could still love her. And Charlotte was more than happy to take away Hailey perfect track record. She knew nobody could be that perfect, so Hailey had to have done something wrong. What Charlotte didn’t know was just how wrong she was.
Up in the astronomy tower Hailey looked up at the stars. Sirius followed her gaze.
"Why are you checking me out?" he said in a mocking tone.
Hailey gave him a confused look.
“That star up there,” Sirius reach up to point it out, “it’s called Sirius.”
“You were named after a star,” Hailey mussed, “wow you’re parents really were lame.”
Sirius laughed, “Yep, but there are some perks that come with being named after a star.”
“And what are those?”
“Well for one I can bring pretty girls up here and impress them with it.” Hailey laughed. She looked up at his star and wondered how many other girls he’d brought up here. He smiled down at her look of awe at the star. He admired the slight grin playing on her lips; her beautiful luscious red lips. He wanted to kiss her again, he wanted to kiss her forever. His fantasy was brought to a stop when Hailey looked finally looked over at him.
“What are you thinking about?” Hailey asked a coy smile on her lips.
“How badly I want to kiss you right now.” He knew he didn’t have to beat around the bush with Hailey, he could just say what was on his mind.
She smiled, “Well you should do something about that. It’s not good to keep feelings like that inside.” she teased.
And before she knew it his lips were on hers.
The next morning Hailey awoke at the top of the astronomy tower. Sirius had his arm around her, his hand drawing a figure eight on the side of her hip. His other hand was playing with her hair. He had conjured up a blanket under which they were cuddled up against each other. She was in a total bliss.
Sirius felt her stir. He whispered good morning in her ear. His gruff morning voice made Hailey’s inside’s tingle. She turn to face him and said, “What time is it? We should probably head to class.”
Sirius laughed, “Its Saturday.”
Hailey relax with this knowledge. She leaned back into Sirius muscular shoulder and sighed.
“I think we should just stay here all day,” she didn’t even look up as she spoke, she was too comfortable. “Forget about everyone else.”
“I like that plan.” Sirius kissed her forehead.
And that’s exactly what they did. All day they stayed cuddled in the corner of the astronomy tower. They talked about everything from Sirius’ family to their chocolate frog collections. For them it was the most relaxing beautiful day. But underneath them in the Gryffindor tower, Charlotte and Stacy were sharing their knowledge with their fellow classmates.
"Mom. It’s so good to see you again." said Oliver kissing his mother on the cheek.
"How are you dear? How's the team going? How's Mary?" Hailey asked him.
"I’m great, the team’s great and Mary should be here shortly so you can see just how great she is doing. They're all great, mom. But how about you?" Oliver inspected his mom. They hadn't seen each other in a couple of months, there was a lot to catch up on. Oliver noted she was parting her hair differently. She wore a minimal amount of make up, though she never had worn much. And she had on muggle cargo pants with a muggle band t-shirt. She looked relaxed, mere relaxed than he had seen her in years. This contented and concerned him at the same time.
"I'm fine, Oliver. You worry too much about me. You have your father to worry about not me." Hailey said. The truth was she worried about Jason on a regular basis.
"Psh. Dad's always fine." Oliver looked up at his mom before adding, "He’s coming here too, and he has a new girlfriend." He paused and observed his mother's reaction. She didn't seem very phased by the news.
"I know, Miriam Langley." Hailey said, "It's about time don't you think?"
"Yah. I guess that's true, she's the first steady relationship he's had since ... You know." Oliver said awkwardly and then added, "Well how's Jamie doing?"
"He’s doing well,” Hailey answered. She looked at her son. He’d grown up so quickly she was so proud of the man he’d come to be. Across the hall a young blond haired woman entered the house. When she caught sight of Hailey she immediately ran over to say hi.
“Hello, Ms. Wood! How are you doing?” the younger woman kissed Hailey on the cheek.
“I’m doing just fine, Mary.” she answered and then added, “And I’ve told you on numerous occasions you can call me Hailey.”
“I’m sorry but I’m afraid I just can’t do it.” Mary mussed. She leaned over and gave Oliver a quick kiss.
“That’s exactly what I said when I met Jason’s Parents,” Hailey mussed. The couple laughed. Hailey really liked her son’s girlfriend, she was sweet, kind and they really did look in love. It took her back. Oliver and Mary went outside to bring the rest of their luggage to the room they’d be sharing at 12 Grimauld Place.
Hailey sat alone in the dingy kitchen, just her and the cup of coffee in front of her. People were moving all around her, but she didn’t notice any of them. She was waiting for one specific person. And he entered as she went to fill up her cup for the third time. He walked in with his shoulder length black hair swaying as he approached her. The gleam of mischief in his grey eyes and his permanent smirk on his face. His black eyes looked up at her as his smile grew wide.
“Hey mum!” Jaime threw his arms around his mother and she smiled.
