“George,” Hermione groaned as he lay down on the sofa next to her, resting his head in her book. “May I remind you we have NEWTs to be studying for? And as handsome as your head is the book is much more useful to me at this precise moment.”
“Ouch...I’m so much useful than this book,” he grinned as he picked it up and sat up, knocking the book to the floor.
“Oh really?” Hermione asked. “Then why don’t you tell me about the 1872 Laws on Transfiguration?”
“Um they were made in 1872 and they were laws...and they were about Transfiguration,” George grinned.
Hermione rolled her eyes and gave a slow sarcastic applause. “How impressive.”
“You know it,” he smirked and winked at her.
“Now can I finish my reading in peace?” she asked him with a sigh.
“Your choice- peace or George?” he asked her looking smug.
“Can I not have both? Why don’t you go get your books and we can study together?”
“Fine,” he said huffily disappearing for a moment before returning with a bag filled with books.
He took out some parchment and ink beginning an essay, all the while watching Hermione out of the corner of his eyes. She had the tendency to murmur softly to herself as she worked and at first he had been confused but apparently she didn’t even realise she was doing it.
The second tendency she had was positively driving him insane. Any time he looked across she was biting her lip in the most innocent yet distracting way possible. Every single time she did it the urge to just kiss her washed over him and each wave grew stronger as she continued to do it. He would have just kissed her already if it wasn’t for the fact she would kill him for disturbing her work. He wasn’t getting anywhere with his work because of it and the worst thing was she didn’t even know.
“Hermione,” he groaned. “Could you please stop doing that.”
Hermione looked up at him in confusion, her nose crinkling and eyebrows furrowing. “Stop doing what?”
“Biting your lip!” George exclaimed exasperatedly. “You’re driving me absolutely mental.”
The confusion lingered for another few moments before she realised what he meant. “For God’s sake, George. Control yourself and just get on with your work, okay?”
“One kiss?” he pleaded giving his best attempt at the puppy dog face.
“Bring your lips over here then,” she sighed and rolled her eyes at him.
He grinned triumphantly moving closer to her she leant in and pressed his lips against her own a small smile forming on his lips as he did. He tugged her hair out of its neat ponytail and wound his fingers into the mass of curls as her arms encircled his neck bringing him closer to her.
“Get a room,” Fred grinned as he entered the Common Room. “Honestly my innocent eyes don’t need to see this.”
George sighed as he pulled away from Hermione, “great timing as always my twin.” Fred chuckled as he looked at the mortified expression on Hermione’s face.
“If you didn’t want to be interrupted you should have found a less public place,” he smirked.
“We’re just studying,” Hermione said and rolled her eyes, her cheeks flushed.
“Hmm didn’t realise they taught that sort of subject here,” Fred smiled.
“I’m never going to get anything done with you two around,” Hermione said sweeping her hair back into a ponytail.
“If yours and George’s lips weren’t glued together you might have had a better view of your book,” Fred teased and Hermione blushed.
“I did tell her- you know- we have to study for out NEWTs but clearly I’m just so irresistible she can’t get enough,” George grinned wickedly and Hermione gave him a look, opening her mouth in shock.
“Hey,” she said pushing him playfully and George dramatically dropped off the sofa.
“Idiot,” she murmured to herself picking up her discarded book and beginning to read once more.
“Did you hear what she just called me?” George gasped.
“She wasn’t wrong mate,” Fred joked and called a bye before leaving.
“Now Granger, dearest,” George said his tone taking on a somewhat dangerous playfulness.
“Mm?” she mumbled uninterestedly though face hidden behind her book she smiled to herself.
“It’s not very nice to call someone an idiot,” he told her.
“I can’t help it if you are one,” she said and smirked.
“Oh, really?” he asked and arched an eyebrow at her.
“Really,” Hermione confirmed muffling her laughter as she pressed the book closer to her face.
“Granger you will pay for that,” he told her seriously and pulled the book away from her.
“I’m terrified,” she said mockingly.
“You should be.”
Hermione didn’t have a second to form a sarcastic, witty retort as she was tackled off the chair and onto the floor as George’s fingers proceeded to tickle everywhere they could.
She screamed and shrieked through the laughter, “George! Stop! Please! I can’t even breathe! Stop!”
“Do I win?” he asked, grinning.
“Yes! For God’s sake you win,” she sighed in relief.
“Good,” he mumbled smiling at her before standing and pulling her up.
“You are crazy, George,” she laughed.
“Just for you ‘Mione. Crazy for you,” he grinned and winked at her.
“Can I please study now? You know how nervous I am for our NEWTs,” she told him and he pouted.
“I do and I can never understand it because you are the smartest girl I have ever known and if anyone is going to be successful I know it will be you,” he told her honestly.
“You’re sweet but there’s more to it than that. If I want to succeed I have to put in the effort,” Hermione told him and resumed her reading.
“We’ve got a whole month before exams start,” George mumbled to himself though he too picked up a forgotten quill and parchment.
Instead of continuing his dreadful attempt at an essay though he proceeded to write his and Hermione’s names several times in large cursive letters and shook his head at himself. He had come back to school just for the sake of his and Fred’s business and within the year he had fallen for Hermione, disappeared for over two weeks, returned, begun a relationship with Hermione and now he was coming up to his exams.
It was just supposed to be a year to get his NEWTs. Never in a million years would he have expected to now be completely in love with this perfect girl. And it was weird. George Weasley, prankster extraordinaire, in love with Hermione Granger, brains of the Golden Trio. And it was unexpected. But above all it was amazing. It felt amazing. He felt amazing. She was amazing.
“Break?” Hermione asked as she glanced up to find him watching her.
George gave a fake gasp, “Hermione Granger wants to take a break from studying?”
“Must be rubbing off on me,” Hermione joked.
They joined their friends in the Great Hall for lunch, talking and laughing.
“Hi George,” Jane smiled at him, fluttering her eyelashes in a way that creepily resembled the movement of spider legs. George cringed and Hermione glared at her with a hatred she was not aware she had. “Hi Hermione,” she added as an afterthought.
“Jane,” Hermione said curtly and George suppressed a laugh at the iciness in her voice and the look of distaste she wore.
“How are things with the two of you?” she asked with something more than interest in her voice.
“Truly amazing,” Hermione told her and George nodded beside her.
“For now,” Jane muttered.
“Excuse me?” Hermione asked, eyes narrowing and voice dangerously low.
“Nothing,” Jane said and smirked.
“Why don’t we go to the library, love?” George said shaking his head at Jane who attempted a smile at him.
“Maybe one day you will be as happy as we are,” Hermione said unable to resist fighting back. “If you can find someone that will put up with your massive ego, that is.”
“It’s called confidence if you had something to be confident about maybe you would understand,” Jane said making sure to hold her own.
“Oh coming from the world’s biggest airhead. I happen to have helped bring down You-Know-Who whereas you just about managed to apply your makeup this morning- and even that doesn’t look good,” Hermione said.
“Please you are just a bookworm, bushy haired-”
“I think we’ve heard enough from you,” George snapped. “You could try all your life and you would never be as amazing, intelligent, caring, intelligent, thoughtful, brave or beautiful as Hermione is.”
Jane scoffed, “Come find me when you come to your senses, George.”
“I won’t come looking for you if you’re the last girl on the planet,” he told her.
“Bye now, Jane,” Hermione said with the biggest false smile she could muster.
“So to the library?” George asked. Hermione nodded smiling at George who laced his fingers through her own, leading her away.
“I’m no damsel in distress, George. I didn’t need saving but I appreciate it,” she told him seriously and hugged him tightly.
George grinned and kissed the top of her head, “You may not have need rescuing but I wasn’t about to let her insult you. Nobody treats my ‘Mione like that.”
“Thank you,” she smiled up at him before dragging him into the library.
They sat in there for hours, books stacked high on the table in front of them.
“Granger?” George called after a while.
“Hmm?” she asked as she looked up.
“Nothing,” he grinned. “That beautiful face had disappeared behind that old book for too long. Just wanted a quick glimpse.”
Hermione blushed and rolled her eyes, “Well now I’ve lost my place.”
“I’m sorry,” he said though nothing in his manner suggested so. “I just missed you.”
“I’ve been sitting next to you for hours,” Hermione said and shook her head.
“But I missed your smile,” he said.
“You and your charm Mr. Weasley,” she said smiling to herself as she continued her work.
“Don’t pretend you don’t like it Miss Granger,” he grinned and winked at her.
