Background: Font color:
Hermione entered her dorm and stared curiously at a single red rose that lay in the centre of her bed. A cream envelope rested beside it with ‘Hermione’ written on the front. His writing. She smiled to herself and sat on her bed picking up the rose and admiring it for a moment. She opened the envelope carefully, reluctantly breaking the wax seal with the initials ‘G.W’ in a heart. She pulled out a piece of parchment and blushed. On one side written in elegant, cursive letters were the words ‘I know what love is because of you’ and as she turned it over her smile widened.
Guess who? You’re an intelligent girl, I’m pretty sure you know and if you don’t how many other guys are you expecting love letters from, huh?
So I think it’s about time for our first date but being me I want to keep some mystery to this so get all dressed up and ready for 10 tonight and wait for me in the Common Room. We’ll go from there.
Can’t wait to see you Hermione.
Love from, your Prince Charming x
Hermione laughed softly to herself and clutched the letter to herself, smiling.
“Ginny! Ginny!” Hermione called as she ran into the Common Room. She spotted the younger witch quickly and rushed over to her. “I need you,” Hermione told her urgently then looked round and spotted Angelina with Fred. “And you Ange!” she said as she dragged Ginny up and over to her.
“What’s going on?” Angelina asked and Fred smirked beside her.
“Well,” Fred said winking at Hermione with a knowing look. “Hermione has her first date with George tonight and naturally she’s come running to you girls because apparently she now needs the next three hours to make sure she’s ready,” Fred explained and chuckled at the look on Hermione’s face.
“Know it all,” Hermione smiled at him.
“Well you know we are talking about my twin here why don’t you let good old Freddie come too and he might be able to help,” Fred suggested.
“Hmm,” Hermione said. “Alright come on then. All three of you. Let’s go.”
They all entered the dorm and Angelina and Ginny began by admiring the rose and George’s letter.
“Who knew my brother could be so romantic?” Ginny asked, bemused.
“Aw. That is so sweet,” Angelina said. “Guess you got the better twin, Hermione,” she sighed and gave Fred a playful smirk.
“Watch it you,” he told her. “Plus Georgie boy has nothing on me.”
“You know I’m only joking,” she laughed and hugged him.
Fred grinned as he read the letter his twin had written and shook his head. “Wow looks like we’re dealing with a bit of a Romeo here.”
“So how am I dressing?” Hermione asked as she sat down cross legged on her bed and watched the others expectantly.
“Um...I say go with a dress. Not too fancy though,” Fred said cocking his head to the side slightly as if picturing it.
“Okay what colour?”
“You look good in red,” Ginny said.
“No. Not red,” Angelina said. “Something calmer. Blue? A pastel blue sort of colour?”
“Wrong and wrong girls,” Fred said with a ‘tut tut’ tone to his voice. “You should have just come straight to me Hermione. George’s favourite colour is purple.”
“Purple?” Hermione asked in surprise. “Okay...problem time...” Hermione realised out loud.
“I didn’t bring dresses to school. I didn’t think I’d need any,” Hermione admitted.
“I’ve got you covered,” Ginny said and ran across to her bed and looked through her trunk. She pulled out a pale pink, thinly strapped, knee length dress and laid it on the bed.
“Thanks Gin,” Hermione smiled.
“But that’s pink,” Fred said dumbly and the three girls shook their heads at him.
“And we go to a school for people with magical abilities,” Ginny told him.
Fred scoffed, “I was just testing you guys.”
“Of course,” Hermione smiled and laughed. “Who wants to sort the dress out?”
Angelina stepped up to the challenge and took out her wand making it a soft lilac colour, shortening the front slightly but elongating the back in a thin material until it was floor length. She stared at it in thought before removing the straps and smiled, happy with it.
“That’s gorgeous,” Ginny said nodding her approval.
“A few adjustments if I may,” Fred said smugly as he stood and cracked his knuckles before taking out his wand. He deepened the colour until it was a royal purple and then added a thick strap to the left side of the dress making it one-shoulder. He made the dress come in more at the waist and smiled happy with his work. “I think that’s good. I like the dipped hem idea, Ange.”
“When did you become a dress designer?” Hermione gaped at him.
“One of my many talents,” he shrugged as he inspected his nails.
“Even after all these years you still never cease to amaze me,” Angelina said and smiled at him.
“Alright so the dress is sorted. Hair, makeup and jewellery left,” Ginny said.
“And shoes,” Angelina added.
“I now see why you needed three hours,” Fred realised out loud and the girls laughed.
After another two hours of what could only be described as painful planning Hermione sighed as she sat as still as possible whilst Angelina did her makeup and Ginny did her hair.
“When I came to ask you guys for help I did not expect all of this,” Hermione admitted.
“Well, we just want you to have a good time,” Ginny said.
“It’s a special night Granger,” Fred told her.
“I know,” Hermione said suddenly breathless. “I’m actually nervous.”
“You don’t have to be,” Angelina told her. “You’re beautiful and you love each other. What’s there to be nervous about?”
“Nothing. He just has that effect on me. I feel so comfortable with him but he still has this ability to just make me go all shy,” Hermione sighed.
“’Mione loves Georgie,” Ginny teased.
“You are so immature,” Hermione smiled.
“Alright you’re ready,” Angelina declared allowing her to stand up. She slipped on her shoes and glanced at herself in the mirror before turning to her friends. Her hair had been put up only leaving a few glossy ringlets to frame her face.
“You look amazing Hermione,” Ginny told her.
“Gorgeous,” Angelina agreed.
“George is going to drop down dead when he sees you,” Fred chuckled.
Hermione blushed and laughed, “You guys are the best. What would I do without you?”
“It’s half nine,” Ginny informed her. “You’ve got a little time to kill.”
“That’s fine,” Hermione smiled now feeling butterflies in her stomach.
“I want you back here by one am the latest. Am I clear?” Fred told her.
Hermione laughed and hugged him, “Of course Fred.”
The four of them headed down into the common room and Hermione was very conscious of how overdressed she was as all heads turned towards her. She tried to ignore all the stares as they talked for a while and as it neared ten she began to get anxious.
A second year approached them and cleared his throat. “Hermione?”
“Um...yeah Thomas?” she asked.
The boy extended his hand to her and she looked at it in confusion and hesitated. It then clicked in her head that somehow this was part of George’s plan. She took it slowly and smiled at him.
He pulled her up and led her out of the Common Room.
“Good luck Hermione!”
“One am and don’t forget it,” Fred called.
Stepping out of the portrait hole curiosity got the better of her. “Where are we going Thomas?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted and removed a carefully folded piece of parchment.
Thanks for not standing me up, Hermione.
Now you just have to find me. Go up to the highest tower in the castle.
See you soon x
Ps thank Tommy for me.
“He said to say thank you Tommy,” Hermione said and smiled at the boy.
“Have fun,” Thomas told her and headed back to the common room.
“To the Astronomy Tower then,” Hermione said to herself and once she made it up the many stairs and pushed the door open as she walked in. A single candle was burning, sat on the ledge of one of the openings that overlook the school grounds. A note was stuck to the wall and she tugged it off shaking her head at his antics.
It’s a beautiful view from up here, don’t you think? Of course it’s nothing compared to you.
Look carefully now. Do you see me? Do you remember our real first date? Find me out by the place where you had a panic attack.
Your One True Prankster x
Hermione smiled to herself and looked out. She scanned the Black Lake and even from the distance could see his silhouette. She practically ran through the halls only hesitating when she heard voices or passed by a teacher’s chambers.
Once she was outside she could barely contain her excitement. The night was cool but she wasn’t cold, she was warmed by the thought of George waiting for her. Finally he came into view and she realised she had been smiling for the entire walk. He had his back to her, facing the lake so she crept up behind him. She placed her small hands over his eyes.
“Guess who?” she whispered to him hanging her head over his shoulder. He felt her hair tickle his neck and the warmth of her breath on the side of his face.
“Could it be my favourite bookworm in the world?” he chuckled.
“Mm,” she mumbled and smiled. “Good answer.”
She moved her hands to wrap them around his neck from behind him as she rested her head on his shoulder. “You know you didn’t have to do all this for me,” she told him and pressed her lips to his cheek.
“I could never do enough,” he said and stood to face her. He had laid out a picnic blanket, lit candles and placed them around, put cakes out, no doubt from the kitchen, and a bottle of wine with two glasses.
George stared at her, eyes wide as he took in her appearance. The dress, the hair, the makeup. Everything. She looked amazing.
“Hermione you look gorgeous. Stunning. Perfect. I-...wow,” he said.
Hermione blushed furiously. “Well Mr Weasley you look very dashing yourself,” she laughed running a hand down the arm of his pale purple shirt.
“I can’t believe you did all of this,” she smiled as they sat down. “All the notes, the rose, Thomas,” she listed.
“I wanted it to be special,” he told her.
“You’re what makes this special,” she murmured as he put an arm around her.
George kissed the top of her head and grinned. After all they had been through he couldn’t believe it was finally happening.
“You know I always thought that perfect girl was just going to walk in one day and I’d know she was the one. I never expected for her to have just been sat in front of me waiting until I finally realised that she was in the one place I never thought to look. Now I wish I had sooner,” he told her honestly and she smiled up at him, loving the lighter shade his eyes took on in the moonlight.
“And I never thought that I’d find the man of my dreams was one of my closest friends that was just waiting to save me from myself, my loneliness and my heartache,” she admitted and a grin broke out on his face.
“I’m just your everyday superhero,” he chuckled and winked.
“No,” she laughed. “You, George Weasley, are my Prankster in Shining Armour.”
“I guess that would make you my Bookworm in distress?”
“Maybe so,” she said with a small smile and bit her lip. “Penny for your thoughts?”
“Huh?” he said quizzically. “Who’s Penny?”
“Not Penny as in the name,” Hermione sighed. “Penny as in muggle money. Oh never mind, I just want to know what you’re thinking- It’s an expression.”
“Why didn’t you just say that,” he teased and she gave him a mock glare. “I don’t know. I’m thinking of you. Everything about you. You and me. Everything we’re going to do, everywhere we’re going to go...I’m just thinking about us, really,” George told her honestly. He stretched out his legs and lay back, looking up at the stars and tugged Hermione gently so she was lying beside him. He looked across at her which was hard to do as her face had disappeared behind her hair. He laughed to himself as he rolled onto his side so he could face her and propped himself up on one elbow.
Slowly he moved the hair away from her face his warm hand brushing against the smooth skin on her face. Hermione loved how tender he was, even doing such a simple act it was so gentle and the look of adoration on his face made her melt and she could feel her face burning under his eyes.
“You know Hermione, we are so close and it’s so nice to already have that trust and comfortableness in our relationship but I love that despite it all somehow I still make you nervous and shy. I love that I can make you blush,” he murmured to her.
“What do you expect when you say stuff like that? Any girl in her decent mind would throw herself at you for that charm,” Hermione smiled.
“I don’t use this charm on any other girl,” he promised.
“You better not,” Hermione warned him playfully.
“I’m yours Granger,” he grinned. “No one else comes close to you.”
“And I’m yours Weasley,” Hermione told him. “I always knew love at first sight wasn’t real. There was no way of telling from that handsome and mischievous face that you would be the funniest, smartest and most compassionate boy I would ever know.”
“Man,” he corrected her. “But I completely agree. How was I supposed to tell that the beautiful bookworm with the deep brown eyes was going to be this secretly playful, intelligent, feisty, sensitive and loving woman right beside me?”
“Stop that,” she said as she flushed again. “It’s rude to make a girl blush this much.”
“I can’t help it,” he shrugged. “I told you that I love it when you blush.”
“Is that what you love most about me?” she asked.
“No Hermione,” he said softly. “What I love most about you, is you,” he whispered before pressing his lips to hers.
“Another good answer,” she smiled as they rested their foreheads against one another.
“I studied hard,” he joked. “You are my favourite subject after all.”
“Hmm...This is what I’ve been waiting for,” Hermione said smiling at him.
“What do you mean?”
“Everything in my life has always been so complicated. So out of place, so filled with anger, with resentment, with fear and with sadness but now with you I’ve found the simple happiness I’ve been waiting for. You don’t even have to do or say anything to make me smile. This is the fairytale every girl dreams of,” she told him.
“Our very own love story. Boy meets girl and everything just falls into place. It’s all perfect,” he said and smiled at her with understanding in his eyes.
“You’re perfect,” she sighed. “No one’s ever made me feel the way you do.”
“I told you, didn’t I? I’m your one true prankster,” he grinned. “I love you, Hermione.”
“I love you too George,” she told him gently.
“Forever and always?”
“Forever and always,” she promised him before kissing him once more.
