Her eyes flew open but whatever she could see, or whatever she was
feeling, was clearly causing her terrible anguish. She screamed and
screamed. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by JK Rowling. Chapter 12 page 249.
Katie Bell opened her eyes and looked around the unfamiliar room. Where am I and how did I get here? A snort from the left of her caused and her to jump in surprise and jerk her head sharply to the sleeping figure of her father in an uncomfortable chair. Feeling more at ease with the sight of her father, Katie again looked around the room taking more notice to the details of it. It was a large stark white room with curtains surrounding the beds which there was at least 5 of not counting her own and 3 were occupied with the residents hooked up to medical equipment. Great I’m in St. Mungos. Now how did I get here? Katie thought hard but she couldn’t remember anything past going into the bathroom at the Three Broomsticks during a Hogsmeade weekend. “Dad. Dad!” Katie shouted throwing her pillow at her sleeping father. “Wha? Katie! Thank god you’re awake!” Her father jumped out his chair and pulled his daughter into his arms. “Dad, what happened? I can’t remember anything past going to the bathroom during a Hogsmeade weekend.”
“You were Imperiused while in that bathroom to carry a cursed necklace back to Hogwarts. You and Leanne got in an argument that resulted in you brushing the necklace and being cursed. Jesus I was so scared.”
“Dad, how long has it been since this happened?”
“Darling you were in a medically induced coma for 6 months. You needed the rest to recover from the curse, if you had fully touched it…” Her father broke off as he choked back a sob and Katie awkwardly patted him on the back. “I’m going to tell the Healer you are awake, I’ll be right back.” Katie nodded and after her father was out of the room she broke down into tears. 6 months gone and she had no recollection of them. Katie glared at the door through her tears as her thoughts turned darker then they have ever been. If I ever find out who did this to me I will torture them until they are begging for mercy and I will kill them.
2 weeks later Katie was given a clean bill of health of St. Mungos and a few days after that her father deemed her well enough to return to Hogwarts. Katie didn’t feel well though, ever since that first dark thought in the hospital Katie had been having loads more. She had even snapped at her father and almost cursed him, she probably would have if she had had her wand on her. Her father brushed it off as stress from being in the hospital but Katie knew it wasn’t stress she had actually wanted to cause her father harm and that scared her. Katie sighed and broke out of her thoughts as she stepped through the portrait that took her into the Gryffindor common room. As soon as she set foot in the common room she was bombarded with her fellow 7th years and her friends. God couldn’t they at least wait until she unpacked her bags before they bum-rushed her with questions. It’s not like she remembered anything anyway. Someone got the better of me and attacked me from behind. If I ever find out who made that coward choice I will make sure they look into my eyes as I curse them into oblivion. “Katie! You’ve returned!” Hearing her name shouted in such an excited tone broke Katie out of her thoughts and she turned to she bushy haired Hermonie Granger running to her with Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley following close behind. Katie stared at Ron as he smiled at her in the same matter his older brother George use to smile at her. George Weasley was the only boy Katie had ever loved and he left her heartbroken to join his twin in chasing the ever exotic and beautiful Angelina Johnson. Katie felt a burst of anger as her hand twitched toward her wand. Just one curse and that smile so much like his brother’s would be wiped of Ron’s face. Just one wave of the wand and she would feel so much better, maybe then she wouldn’t be so angry. It would be so easy… Harry’s voice broke through her thoughts just as her hand enclosed around her wand. “The necklace....?”
“Before you even ask Harry, I have no idea who gave me the necklace. The last thing I remember is going into the Three Broomsticks' bathroom. After that it is all blank until I woke up in St Mungos." Katie watched as the trio glanced at each other and then all their eyes were back on Katie. Katie squashed the flash of anger, apologized to the trio, and rushed out of the common room into the busy corridor. Katie bent her head and pushed herself into the busy crowd. What was happening to her? She had never wanted to hurt someone as much as she just wanted to hurt Ron. Katie ignored the bodies pushing into her as her anger built and built. It felt as if she was a dam full of negative energy and that dam had cracks in it that kept leaking out the energy at random bursts of time. A body slammed into Katie’s shoulder hard and Katie fell back onto the ground. “Watch where you’re going you fat cow!” The person shouted glaring down at Katie. That was it Katie was done fighting this weird anger filling her. Maybe she should just accept it. Katie jumped up, pulled her wand and shouted the curse that was going to change her life forever, “Crucio!” That was it; the dam was broken, the curse was fulfilled and the darkness had hold of Katie Bell until death.

The idea for this came from the Good Gone Bad Challenge by blackballet. Where basically you have to turn one good character bad to the bone.( my words not blackballet's) I recieved Katie Bell obviously and I had no idea how to make her bad. When I was about to give up the plot bunnies started throwing my marshmellows at me and screaming for attention. What if the opal necklace had another curse besides certain death if you held it in your bare hand or wore the necklace? What if just the slightest sliver of skin brushed the necklace and the evil in the necklace latched onto you and used you as a host for the evil to grow? Hopefully the reader and blackballet enjoy it!
