                 -Fall Out Boy, The Phoenix

Walking through the familiar corridors, turning to the left, he came across the familiar entrance that was the Headmistress office. He stood in front of it and waited for the door to open. When it did, he slowly walked through and sat down opposite a smiling Headmistress McGonagall.

"What is it my dear boy?" She offered him a plate of biscuits which he refused.

"I was wondering if I could come back. I know it is slightly irritating that I left not long ago and now I have returned, but I have my reasons." He looked into his lap, and shuffled slightly.

"Yes Mister Malfoy, I believe you have your reasons, so you are allowed to attend Hogwarts again, but may you inform me of your reasons regarding Lucius?"

"Is it possible I can do so another time, as I'm thoroughly tired, I was only in Southern France just this morning. He cringed at the memory of why he was there.

"Okay, Mister Malfoy. You will need to go to your teachers, and catch up on the work you have missed, but I'm sure you will catch up quickly; a smart young man like yourself. Now go, rest." She ushered him out, and he levitated his bags, and hunched his shoulders as he walked back to the heads dorm, hoping Hermione hadn’t arrived yet.

Once he reached the dorm, he stood at the portrait and tried to remember the password he had not said in over a month ago.

"She’s not over it yet, young Malfoy. She still pines for you, yet, she will never admit it now that you are back, but she is not in a good place. I think, Draco, you should leave her be for the moment. Let her adjust."

Draco nodded. "Did…does she understand though, Professor? Did you hear anything she said? Please tell me she understood my reasons.’’

"I believe she did so, but with no proper goodbye, I think that it was that which upset her the most." The twinkle in Dumbledore’s blue eyes faded slightly at the mention of goodbyes.

"I know, I feel bad, Sir, but I couldn’t. Nargles! That’s the password!" he smiled slightly that he had remembered the password.

"Ah, im afraid she changed it." Dumbledore had a glum expression on his face.

"She did? What is it?"

"I'm afraid I'm not allowed to tell you."

"Mmm"he carried on thinking, wondering what would mean so much to Hermione, "muggle borns?"

"I'm afraid not."

"Wrong again."

Draco came up with a long list of passwords he thought Hermione would choose, including quotes from numerous books he knew she had read, but none of them worked.

"My only love sprung for my only hate." Said a voice from behind, Draco turned around, and the voice belonged to Harry.

"Pardon?" Draco furrowed his eyebrows.

"It’s the password." a small smile playing on his lips, knowing the true meaning behind the changing in the password.

"Oh, thanks." He nodded, and stepped inside, Harry following suit.

"I'm guessing you’re moving back in then, judging by the amount of bags." Harry looked at the variety of bags that hovered in front of him, wondering where those bags have been.

"I am, I have a hunch." Draco took his bags to his room and joined Harry back in the common room.

"May I know what this hunch is?" Harry said, concerned.

Draco looked at the boy with the lightening scar sitting opposite him, seeing real concern on his face, "can I trust you Potter?" Draco said.

"On my life."

Draco looked at him hesitantly, "I have a hunch, that-that he is here. Somehow, he’s sneaked into the castle and posing as someone.

"So, he could be under Polyjuice potion?" Harry asked, being reminded of his fourth year of Hogwarts.

"That’s what I have gathered so far." Draco sighed, I really don’t want to carry on any further; I'm too tired."

"How did you collect this information?" Harry asked.

Draco sighed again, "Well, Potter, the first thing I did, was go back to the manor. I raided his rooms and drawers; I didn’t find anything apart from a note, addressed to someone called Kleydor. Kleydor was a former death eater that ran away when Voldemort fell the first time, yet he still stayed in contact with Lucius throughout those years, and they both shared the same opinion on muggle-borns. It said to meet him at the old meet up, the place that was used as Voldemort’s hide out before he used the manor. I suppose Kleydor was able to get in, I don’t know how, considering all the protection charms on the manor but Lucius probably told him, but all I know is, he had already been there, as the note was all crumpled and the room was trashed, there were also muddy footprints on the floor. The island was located 100 miles west of Ireland, so it was hard to get to." He shrugged. "It makes sense. Anyways, I managed to get to this island, but I had to go the muggle away, as apparation was useless on the island. When I finally arrived after a week of rough travelling and missing a muggle ferry, I managed to get there. The weather was awful; a storm was gathering at the time, and I wasn’t in the mood for the storm, so I made my way up the tall hill and towards the only manor on the island. I got up there, and found the door was open slightly; I made my way in and found the place empty. He had seen me coming. For some reason, I found a black cloak inside, it was ripped, but I could see the label was from somewhere in Bulgaria, so I made my way there. Travelling through forests and deserted ancient abandoned wizard villages just to find this one shop that was in the heart of an old Bulgarian village. I came across a group of vampires that I had to lose trail of," he pointed to his scar, "I got in a rough with one of them, he’s now underground. I eventually found this dressmaker and he said that Lucius bought several robes, and said that he was going to some sort of ancient castle, to get his revenge. When I first heard this, I thought he meant a castle of some sort. I ended up in the south of France when it hit me, this morning actually, that he meant here. I was stupid for not realising before, his revenge is on myself and Hermione and I knew I had to come back, to protect her." Draco finally finished, giving Harry a minute to process the information.

"I wonder if the man knew who he was selling to?" Harry pushed up his glasses.

Draco snorted, and started to laugh.

"What? Why are you laughing?" Harry raised an eyebrow.

"Because, after all I just told you, that’s what you say!" Draco leant back, his laughter now under control.

"Right, right. So who do you think it is?"

"That’s the one thing I don’t know yet. It could be an older student, someone in our year, or it is most likely a teacher."

"Ill keep an eye out. Does Lucius have any habits?" Harry asked.

Draco thought for a moment, trying to think back to his late childhood, "He has a couple. He licks his lips a lot, he also always has his wand, when it wasn’t in his hand, in his inside right part of his trousers, he had a pocket made in every pair, or it was in the same part in his robes. He also likes to re-arrange things in a neat way on his desk. He would always have three pencils, two quills, and two pots of ink."

Harry leant forward, "alright, I’ll keep a look out, should I tell the rest of the order?" Harry raised an eyebrow.

"You can tell everyone, but not Hermione, not yet. I want to tell her." Draco looked down into his lap.

"Potter, why were you here anyway?"

"Oh, um, Ron told me that Hermione said she ran into you, I came here to see if she was in here and too see if she was okay. I guess I'm going to have to look in the library." Harry got up, "you know, you hurt her pretty bad." He looked at Draco, a serious expression on his face.

"I know." His face went expression-less, not wanting to shot Harry the guilt that was eating up inside him.

"I need to keep my promise, Malfoy, so I apologise for what I'm about to do." Before Draco could register what Harry said, he felt a fist meet his face, "goodbye Malfoy." He nodded, and left.

"Potter, thank you.’’ Draco nodded, not sure he heard and watched until Harry was in the corridor, before he put his head back and closed his eyes, rubbing his temples, feeling his left eye starting to swell.

Hermione held her breath as Harry walked past, her disillusionment charm worked as he walked straight past. She had heard everything.

She waited another five minutes before she took the charm off.

What do I do? He’s in there? Hopefully asleep, so then I can sneak past him.

She slowly made her way into the common room, and saw Draco lying head back on the sofa. She just managed to get to her door, when his head snapped up.

"Hermione" he got up and went to walk over to her, but stopped himself, Hermione noticing his actions.

Hermione just looked at him; words could not express the amount of different emotions, "I…’’ she looked at him, her vision blurring. She took a deep breath, blinking back the tears. "Before. That’s how it should be. Acquaintances. That is all." Her eyes travelled to the left side of his face, she knew Harry had hit him, but she had not realised how hard he hit.

Draco looked at the small fragile girl that stood before him; she had lost weight, a lot of weight. He realised, how much he hurt her by leaving. "Acquaintances, friends?"

Hermione looked at the rough man in front of her, "I don’t know."

"Okay." He looked down, and started to fumble with his thumbs, he had never felt this nervous before.

"If you need me Malfoy. I will be in my room. Not much has happened, prefects have been fine." She took one last look and entered her room.

She called me Malfoy, it's worse than I thought.  he put his fingers through his hair.

He mentally slapped himself and made his way into his room, with a cup of tea and some pepperup potion for his headache that was now starting to appear.

He opened the door to his room, and felt like he had never left. He saw Hermione had been in and cleaned up, tidying the drawers he'd left open. He flicked his wand, and his trunks un-packed themselves, back into the places they had been before. He took his potion, and lay down on his bed, smelling oranges.

Oranges? Why can I smell oranges? Hermione! Hermione smells like oranges, well, her hair does. Does this mean she’s been here? Has she been sleeping in here?

Hermione looked up from her books, the clock read seven pm, dinner would be starting soon. She got up and made her way to the great hall. She ignored Draco’s piercing eyes as she made her way through the common room and left.

"Hey guys." She smiled as she sat down at the Gryffindor table, along with Luna and Blaise.

Everyone looked up at her, smiling awkwardly.

"I know, I know he’s back, but I don’t care. We are just mere acquaintances now, not friends, not anything more." She smiled a fake smile, and started to put some roast beef on her plate.

"Hermione, he’s come back to pro-"

"I know, to protect me, I overheard you two earlier."

Ron looked down, he could feel his anger building up inside of him, how dare he leave Hermione like that? I thought what I done was bad!

Ginny turned to her best friend, "just kick him where it hurts if it gets too much." She winked, and Hermione laughed. Ginny always knew when Hermione was putting on an act, Harry also picked up on it, but left it down to Ginny to solve.

They all finished dinner and left as a group. Hermione had cheered up slightly, they just opened the doors to go back to their dorms, when they encountered Draco.

"YOU FERRET, HOW DARE YOU JUST LEAVE HER LIKE THAT!" Ron’s anger that had built up over Draco all came exploding out at once, seeing Draco just infuriated him further.

"I" Draco decided not to carry on, he knew he deserved it.

"YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SCUM MALFOY. I-WE TOLD YOU IF YOU EVER HURT HER, YOU WOULD HAVE TO ANSWER TO US!" Ron was close to Draco now and swung at Malfoy, leading him to being hit again in the left eye. Draco winced.

The boys passed with nothing more than glares, Hermione was frozen to the spot. Ginny walked over to Hermione, only looking at Draco and shaking her head. Don’t worry. She mouthed, and Draco nodded, knowing Ginny understood why he had done it.

Hermione was led off by Ginny and taken to her bedroom, Ginny waved her wand, and Hermione was in her pyjamas.

"Mione, do you want me to stay the night?" Ginny asked.

"I’ll be fine. Off you go, it’s nearly eleven and I can see you’re tired. Go back to the Gryffindor common room, and sleep." Hermione smiled weakly.

"Okay Hermione, but just owl me if you need anything, even it is for a hug!" Ginny hugged her friend, turned and left.

Hermione sighed, and slipped into her bed, clapping to switch of the lights, one thing she had changed about her room, and let her mind drift off into sleep.

Draco was lying on the side he could smell Hermione; he buried his head further into the pillow, and let the darkness engulf his mind.

Draco bolted up, he could hear screams coming from Hermione’s bedroom. He quickly jumped out of his bed, and ran to her room.

He opened the door, and saw her thrashing around, shouting words to do with memories she had experienced in a certain manor. He silently walked over to her bed, and hesitated; he sat down on the bed, and took her hand, trying to calm her down. He didn’t know how long he was there for, but he knew that sleepiness engulfed him.

Hermione shifted in her bed, she tried to pull the covers over her bare shoulders, but realised she couldn’t, she fluttered open her eyes and saw Draco holding her hand, his head hanging where he fell asleep.
She sat up, and took back her hand, she looked at him.

Merlin I miss you, but I don’t know how I feel at the moment, with you returning after leaving out of the blue.

She looked at him once more time, and shook him awake,

"Malfoy, Malfoy wake up." Her hand shaking the shoulders she once had gripped with means of physical love.

When he finally awoke he jumped up from her bed.

"You had nightmares, they wouldn’t stop." He shuffled uncomfortably.

"Oh, err thanks." She looked down into her lap, ‘’thank you, and for what it’s worth, im sorry about Harry and Ron yesterday, I overheard everything yesterday, no need to tell me.

‘’oh, it’s fine, it doesn’t hurt.’’ Hermione felt a flicker of guilt inside her, and he quickly left.

That night, Draco walked into the common room, having just explained to McGonagall what had happened. He saw an empty vial lying on the table; he went over and picked it up, reading, sleeping draught.

Draco felt hurt, hurt that he had been shut out of helping her with her nightmares, nightmares that could have been prevented in the first place if he intervened at the time, he dragged his right hand down his face and climbed up the stairs, opened the door and saw Hermione fast asleep, breathing heavily. He knew that she would not have any nightmares, so he went back to the common room, pictured his own dose, drunk the dose straight from the vial, and went to bed.
