AND THERE WERE A LOT OF CONNECTIONS.
James left me to find Fred and Louis (not that I minded, I was hoping to stay far away from him because when James got drunk, he got very affectionate and I was kind of in the mood of ‘no one ever touch me or I’ll decapitate you’ currently) and I went to find someone who was hopefully going to stay sober the whole night.
Lily bounded to me and said, “Reese! Do you think I look pretty?!” She was shouting, which meant she’d already started drinking.
I nodded. “Yeah, Lily, you look gorgeous!” She did a twirl for me and I said, “Your legs do look amazing.”
“I know,” she said smugly. “And look!” She pointed at a small group to the side and explained, “That’s the group I was talking about. You can’t see their faces, but they’re just beautiful. Lucy’s already chatting one up.”
I looked, and sure enough, Lucy was flirting with a guy. I laughed and she said, “He’s Adrien, Gaspard’s older brother. Gaspard is the kind of dopey-looking one, next to—” I tuned out as she debated which one to introduce herself to.
“And they’re from Beauxbatons!” she finished. “French!” she squealed.
“Very nice,” I commented, looking at them with renewed interest. If a guy was French, he automatically became eight times hotter.
It was a well-researched fact.
Lily flounced off, muttering something in French that Dom apparently taught her, “Puis-je t’appeler biscotte? Non? Parce que je te trouve craquante.”
I continued walking (waddling) around to try and find some cool peeps I could hang out with, yo.
I should be a gangster. It works really well, yo.
Okay, no it doesn’t. I just wanted to try some new things up…
Okay, last one I promise.
I was laughing to myself and then I ran into Rose. “Reese!” she said, giving me a hug. I noticed she had a bottle of tequila in her hand.
“Rose,” I said, holding her. “Have you started drinking yet?”
She shook her head. “No, I’m waiting until nine o’clock. I’m just holding this bottle so no one will take it and/or slip something in it.”
“Wise,” I said. She nodded, looking proud of herself and Scorpius stumbled over.
“‘Ello, ‘Ello!” he chirped, looking extremely happy. “‘Ow are we all?”
Scorpius put on a weird accent whenever he got drunk; it was a hilarious yet very strange reaction. It was like… extreme-Britishism. Very odd, but it always provided us with a lot of laughs.
“So, what you doin’, love?”
Rose giggled and patted his cheek affectionately. “You’re such a weirdo. You’ll be okay?” she asked me. I nodded, grinning and she took him away.
I looked for more people and I said hello to numerous people. I saw James talking with some Quidditch mates, holding to what looked like a drink that was smoking at the top.
And that meant it was something magical crossed with something Muggle.
When I said ‘mixing’, I didn’t think they meant actual mixing! I thought mixing as in having shots, beer, firewhisky, champagne, vodka – that type of mixing!
Ah well, I wouldn’t be the one with a hangover in the morning.
I just held a hand to my belly as I saw an unfamiliar girl standing by the corner, looking nervous.
“Hi, I’m Reese!” I said, introducing myself to her. She didn’t acknowledge me, so I tapped her on the shoulder. “Hello? Are you okay?”
She jumped and looked at me. She looked really frightened. I said louder, “Are you okay?”
She started to fidget with her hands and I stared at her blankly. Then it hit me. “Oh, you’re Nicole!” I remembered she couldn’t hear me so I pointed to her and tried to point to Fred. She grinned and nodded. I pulled out my phone and typed;
Hi! I’m Reese! I’m James’ girlfriend, the one standing next to Fred. You’re Nicole, right?
She nodded and grabbed my phone and typed out;
Yeah I am. He’s just gone to get me a drink. I’ve heard quite a bit about you, Fred talks about you and James often.
I grinned and typed back to her. We were having a pretty good ‘conversation’ when Fred came over with Nicole’s drink in his hands. He passed me his drink so he could sign something to her.
She signed back to him and he turned to me. “So, I hear you’ve already met! She says that you’re talking through messages on your phone?” I nodded and he grinned. “She says you’re really nice as well.”
“Well, tell her I said thank you.” He started signing again and he said, “She asked if you wanted to sit down. I’m going to find some people. She said she was fine on her own.”
I nodded and gave Fred his drink back. He quickly gave Nicole a kiss before leaving and we made our way to a small table at the back. She wrote something on her phone and passed it to me.
Did you want to learn a bit of Sign Language?
I nodded and she taught me different letters and simple words like ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. I was having a lot of fun with it and Victoire pulled up a chair next to us, sipping on a cocktail.
“Hello! How are you enjoying yourselves?” she said as she signed the words. I recognised ‘Hello’.
Nicole started to sign things back to her and Victoire signed things back. I sat and watched, amazed at how fast they were communicating. “Reese, she tells me you’re trying to learn Sign?”
I nodded and said, “Yes.” I signed it at the same time and Nicole nodded, smiling at me.
Victoire grinned. “Mind if I help? It’s quite fun once you get it.” I agreed happily and she taught me all different hand gestures. The three of us sat there, making hand movements and although we may have looked a bit odd to the others, we were having a pretty good time.
Nicole signed that she needed to go to the bathroom so Victoire showed her where to go. I was left by myself again, so I thought I’d go and find some people to talk to.
But then James came and sat down next to me. His eyes were really bright and he had a silly grin on his face. I checked the time on my phone and realised it was already eleven. Time just flies when you’re having fun!
“Hello,” I said, laughing.
“Hi.” He flung an arm around me and said, “You’re very small. Did you know that?”
I nodded. “Yes, I do know that.” I sat back a bit because he smelt strongly of alcohol and it was making me feel ill. “How much have you had?”
He ignored that question. “It’s strange, because you’re so small but then you’re having a baby! I wonder how it fits?”
I rolled my eyes and said, “It’s weird, I know.”
He drooped down and looked in my eyes, copying me as I moved around. “You’re pretty awesome, y’know? You haven’t had a very good life so far.”
I laughed and said, “I know. You’re pretty awesome too, James.”
He sat up and grinned. “Yup. I am. I could have been a complete arse and leave you but I didn’t. There are times when I think I’ve chosen wrongly but then I feel the kid kick and I get excited and I know I haven’t chosen wrong.”
I looked at him and felt my heart swell up. “Really?”
“Really,” he affirmed. He grinned again and then Louis plopped down on the side of me.
“Whatchu talking about?” he asked, taking a drink from something questionable.
I shrugged and James and him swapped drinks. I didn’t know if they realised they did it. They put them down next to each other and then they grabbed the wrong ones when they went to pick it back up again.
“How Reese is really small but she can still have something inside of her,” James said, drinking from Louis’ drink. James then snorted, realising how odd that sounded and I grinned, rolling my eyes at him.
Louis looked thoughtful. I wasn’t sure if it was because he realised that he took James’ drink or he was thinking how I was really small.
We never found out because Fred came back, asking for Nicole. He’d been popping up a few times, but she was comfortable staying away from most people. He kept saying he felt bad but then she admitted parties weren’t her thing and she would rather stay somewhere relatively quiet instead of in the thick of it.
“Don’t you find it weird,” James said loudly, “that Nicole can’t hear you? Like anything you say she can’t hear you? Isn’t that a little strange?”
He shrugged. “It is, but it’s both a good and bad thing. Good when I accidentally say something about the Wizarding world but bad because… well… I can’t really talk to her. But we make it work.”
“It’s fine once you know a bit of sign language though, we had a great ‘conversation’,” I said.
Fred nodded and then Nicole popped up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. He signed something and then told us he was off to introduce her to other family members. James and Louis got up as well but their spot was quickly filled by Scorpius.
“‘Ello there, lassy!” he chirped, grinning.
I clapped a hand to my mouth and muffled my laughter. “Hey, Scorp.”
“It’s just bollocks that you can’t drink tonigh’, innit?” he said sympathetically.
“Yeah, I guess. I didn’t really miss it before but now I’m starting to miss it. I just really want to get drunk again.” It was true. It made me sound like I had an alcohol-dependency (and maybe I did, but let’s not get into that) but parties were so much more fun when you weren’t the only one sober.
He ruffled my hair up and said, “Just wait, love! We’ll take you out drinkin’ as soon as possible!”
“Thank you, Scorpy,” I said laughing.
He blew a kiss and said, “So Rosie an’ I wanna star’ plannin’ fer tha weddin’ but I dunno where ta start.”
“Scorpius, are you okay?” I asked concernedly. He really started to slur/change his accent.
“Nah, ‘m alrigh’. Jus’—” He looked at me dazedly and then passed out, his head hitting the table.
I checked his pulse, to make sure that it was still beating/beating at a normal rate. Rose popped up next to me and asked, “Is he okay?”
“He passed out, weren’t you drinking?” I replied, looking at her shocking sobriety.
She shook her head. “Nah, I had like two sips and then Lily took the bottle away from me. But I don’t mind. I’ll probably have to work tomorrow.”
“Again?” I said incredulously. “You’ve been working non-stop lately!”
She made a face and heaved Scorpius up to put him around her shoulders. “Yeah,” she said sadly. “It’s just that I can work, and they take advantage of it. But I knew being a Healer would be like this, so I shouldn’t complain too much. Anyway, I’m going to take him outside, in case he throws up. See you!”
I waved at her as she left.
I then decided to go say hello to more people. Y’know, to see what their state was at 11:30. I found Al talking to a girl, so I decided to leave before interrupting anything except Al pushed her away and basically ran towards me.
“Thank God you’re here I thought she would never leave!” he gushed. She coughed pointedly and he rolled his eyes and snapped, “Oh, who’re you kidding? You really thought something was going to happen after you asked if I would ever have a pygmy puff—” I elbowed him as she went bright red but before he could continue his sentence, she flounced off, looking extremely hurt.
“Al! That was a little rough, don’t you think?” I scolded.
He shrugged. “Eh, I’m too drunk to care. Now, I’ve been looking for you. I need to tell you something important, but not here.” He looked around and led me to a less crowded area. When we got to the spot, he looked somewhere behind me so I turned to see what he was looking at but he made me look back at him. “No! You have to look here!”
“Al, what’s going on?” I asked confusedly.
He took a deep breath. “I’ve needed to say this for the past few months now, but I’ve been hiding it but I just can’t hide it any longer.”
“Just let me speak,” he said, cutting me off. “I’m completely and irrevocably in love with you, Reese. And I know you’re having my brother’s baby and with my brother but I just can’t help these feelings.”
I felt like everyone stood still for several hours. No. This couldn’t have happened. Al didn’t just say that. I gaped at him and then stuttered, “N-no. This is – this is a joke! It’s not real; you’re not in love with me!” I said, my voice getting higher and higher.
He looked at me solemnly and said softly, “Reese, I am, just let me explain…” I immediately got extremely angry with him.
“No! Don’t you try and justify yourself! You’re completely wrong, Potter! I’m in love with James! I don’t want to be with you! How could you possibly think that?! You’re like a brother to me, you sick bastard!” I spat, giving him my best glare.
I went to storm away but Al grabbed my hand and said, “Reese, please…”
I tore my hand from his grip. “Don’t touch me,” I spat. He looked at me seriously before cracking up laughing. “What?” I asked, feeling extremely disoriented.
I heard two other people laughing behind me. “What’s going on?!” I shrieked.
Louis and James came from… somewhere. I don’t know where, they just popped out of nowhere. “It’s just a joke, we wanted to see your reaction,” Louis said.
I glared at them and James said, “Lighten up, these two idiots owe me money now! I told them you’d get angry and call him a name, so now I’m 20 galleons richer!”
“YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!” I screeched. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
They cowered. I felt my wrath becoming stronger seeing them as weaklings.
“WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I ACCIDENTALLY DROPPED THE BABY IN SHOCK, DID YOU THINK OF THAT?!” I swear, they whimpered. It was awesome. “WHAT IF I SAID YES AND THEN RUINED EVERYONE’S LIVES, FOR A FUCKING PRACTICAL JOKE?! WHAT IF I—” I broke off and gasped as I held my stomach. James stumbled towards me and started saying something but I cut him off, “No, don’t worry. The baby just rolled.”
“Rolled?” James asked confusedly.
“Yes, rolled. Twisted, turned, flipped, etcetera, etcetera,” I snapped. I had both Potter boys near me so at the same time I smacked them in the head. Hard. I glared at Louis but he just backed up with his arms raised.
“Ow!” they both complained.
“Serves you right,” I muttered. “Now, if you don’t mind I’m going to use the loo.”
I started to walk back to where James, Al and Louis were standing. There was also an unknown girl chatting Louis up but Lorcan or Lysander ran in front of me. I still got confused which one it was, especially when it was pretty dark.
“Reese!” he chirped. “I need you to tell me where Lily is!”
I would hazard a guess that it was Lysander, then. “Er, I don’t know, I’m sorry.” He looked annoyed and I asked, “Why are you looking for her?”
“I just wanted to ask her something… personal.”
He looked uncomfortable so I didn’t push it. “Sorry, I don’t know. Maybe check outside? Or maybe Molly’s seen her?” I pointed to where Molly was standing with one of the guys Lily had been pointing out to me earlier.
He shrugged and thanked me before scurrying outside, muttering something.
I didn’t think much of it and walked towards the small group we’d acquired. James grinned at me and I smiled back at him. Yes, I was annoyed that they played that prank on me but there wasn’t any harm done in the end. Thankfully.
“Hey,” I said once I reached them.
“Hi.” He faced me and put his hands on my hips. He whispered, “I really love you, you know that?”
I nodded. “Yes, I know. I love you too.”
He smiled at me cheekily and said, “Do you remember when we first hooked up, what a good night it was?” I blushed and he said, “Because, I think you’re really good at it. Granted, I did most of the work and we were piss-drunk and extremely h—”
“Stop, shh,” I cut him off, covering his mouth with my hands. He licked my hand and laughed when I pulled them away, grimacing and wiping them on his sleeves. “Just shut up. So what were the other two betting that I did when Al ‘professed his love for me’?” I made quote marks with my hands.
“Al thought you were going to accept and Louis thought you were going to cry. I bet on that you would yell at him and call him something. I thought you’d call him a ‘wanker’ but we didn’t bet on that.”
I rolled my eyes and said to Al, “As if I’d accept!”
“Um, have you seen me?” he asked, lifting his shirt up where they were quite a nice set of abs. I knew he had been working out (mostly because he hardly did anything at work), but I didn’t realise how much it had paid off. Al had never had abs or muscles; he’d always just been really skinny (we heard him complain about it too many times). But I guess the fates were finally in his favour. “Most sane people would say yes but you’re insane so I guess I should have expected it. But a guy can hope.” He laughed and said, “At least you did say no. How awkward would it have been if you said yes?”
I sighed. “I wouldn’t have said yes though. You’re like a brother to me and that’s just gross!”
Al looked affronted and I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t going to go into this. Louis yelped and we turned around to see him wet. His hair dripped down and it smelt like firewhiskey. “What happened?” I asked confusedly.
He muttered, “I said something inappropriate.”
“What did you say?” I sighed wearily.
He mumbled something before walking towards the bathrooms to clean himself up. I looked at James and he shrugged, taking another drink.
“Reese, I didn’t know you’d be here!” I turned around and saw Colleen standing there with a bottle of Muggle beer.
“Hey, I didn’t know either!” I grinned at her and stepped away from James to give her a hug.
“You’ve gotten so much bigger, oh my God!” she commented. I laughed and she pressed a hand to my stomach, feeling the baby kick (like it did all. the. time.). “How long have you been here?” she asked after taking her hands away from my mountain of a stomach.
I looked to James and he shrugged. “About eight, I think it was? Scorpius was already drunk when we arrived, that much I know.”
She nodded and said, “Yeah, I only got here half an hour ago… Hey, you wouldn’t know where—”
“Colleen, what are you doing here? I thought you had to work?” Louis asked from behind her. She jumped.
“Yeah, I did. But then we ended up fixing it really quickly. I was just looking for you.” She smiled at him and he grinned, his eyes glittering.
“What’s going on between you two?” I asked curiously. They were adorable together.
Colleen shrugged, her cheeks reddening as I stared at her. “Nothing much, we’ve just been seeing each other occasionally.”
“Naked,” Louis added.
She looked mortified for a moment but then laughed nervously. “Well, I’m just going to get another drink,” she said, her voice oddly high. “See you around!”
“I’ll come with you,” Louis offered.
She nodded and started walking but before Louis could follow her, I grabbed his arm and hissed, “Don’t you dare hurt her. She’s my friend, and if you make her cry I won’t be happy.”
“You’re never happy,” he teased but at my glare he sobered up a tiny bit. “I won’t! We’re not exclusive; she’s seeing other guys too!”
“No she isn’t, you thickhead! She’s waiting for you; just bloody ask her soon before someone else does!” I wanted to smack him for being so oblivious.
He looked unconvinced but I let him go. He quickly followed Colleen and I looked at the pair suspiciously.
James tapped my shoulder and I looked at him. “The fireworks are going to start soon; did you want to watch them?” I nodded and he led me outside where most people were already waiting.
I saw Rose with a half-asleep Scorpius around her shoulders; Harry and Ginny were holding each other’s hands and looking out at the sky; Ron and Hermione were laughing; Fleur and Bill with Dom, who were all chattering away; Angelina and George were holding each other’s hands tightly with Roxy holding her dad around the waist; Percy and Audrey were snuggled in a corner; Teddy was behind Victoire with his arms circling her; Molly was with Lucy and Lily who both looked a little tipsy; Lysander was next to Lily and Lorcan was with his parents. Fred and Nicole stood together and he was signing something to her. Hugo and Al were standing together, laughing at something; Colleen was whispering something into Louis’ ear and he had a cheeky grin. I didn’t want to know.
I looked towards James and realised he’d been watching me. He had his arms around my waist and I leant in closer towards him. He kissed the side of my head and then put a hand to my stomach, his face lighting up when the baby kicked him. Hard.
It had been a crazy year. I got pregnant, finished school, got kicked out of home, lived with James, became James’ girlfriend, tried to get a job and failed, bad experiences with my parents, moved into a new apartment, watched my brother get married and met with my old best friend. It hadn’t been an easy year, that’s for sure, but it had been a damn memorable one.
The countdown started and everyone started to shout, and I couldn’t help but beam and join in.
Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four! Three! Two! One!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The fireworks exploded up into the air, lighting up the dark night sky.
“Happy New Year, Reese,” James said, kissing me softly.
I kissed him back and looked at his warm brown eyes. “Happy New Year, James,” I said before pulling him into a kiss again.

disclaimer: totally stole that off the Internet somewhere. It was an unofficial site where people just comment on things but I didn't make it up. (But I will so use it if I ever go out)
anyway, hope you enjoyed! :)
