Percy smiled as he rested his hands on Audrey’s swollen stomach. She was five months along and they couldn’t be happier. Everyone predicted the baby would have his red mop of hair but Percy knew he’d get Audrey’s hazel eyes.
Whenever they talked about the baby, Percy couldn’t help imagining holding him. He couldn’t wait and he would eagerly stare at the black and white photo, looking at the small creation that he and Audrey had made.
Sometimes, Percy would talk to the baby. He felt a bit silly but it was quickly overridden when he felt him kick sharply. He told stories to him, telling him his mistakes and how he had learnt from them.
He and Audrey had already put aside some money for the baby’s Gringotts vault. They were so excited for this baby – before it they had never even thought past a few days into their future. Now they were thinking years ahead.
Percy couldn’t wait to be able to hold his son. To have that moment all fathers have when the baby grips his fingers just after he is born. He couldn’t wait until he’d be able to hold his baby, protecting him from any harm.
He could imagine his son wrapping his arms around his neck, squeezing him, being assured that Percy was invincible.
Percy and Audrey imagined countless times to what their baby would look like.
“I hope he has your smile,” Percy would say, rubbing his wife’s expanding belly.
Then Audrey would smile with her dimples, blushing under her husband’s gaze. “And your eyes. I hope he looks more like you than me,” he would say, pressing a kiss onto her cheek.
Percy vowed never to lie to his son; he always wanted to be truthful to him. He didn’t want him to grow up the way he did, constantly resenting his brothers and sister, then it being too late.
He wanted his son to trust him completely and have a better relationship than that of the one between Percy and his own father.
He knew that whatever he did, he would always be there for his little boy. He knew that sometimes he would make a mistake but he knew that he loved nothing more than this baby.
He’d look at his nephews walking and feel the flutter of excitement when his own son started to walk. He’d hold his hand and let him know that he’d always be supporting him.
Percy imagined napping and the baby sleeping on him, curled up and drooling. He imagined his hands holding him protectively and then putting him down gently into the cot, tickling his small feet, watching them curl and his mouth would curve into the tiniest of smiles.
He was his son, and nothing and no one could replace that for him. He couldn’t wait until he was born, until he could hold him and teach him about the magical community.
He couldn’t wait to hear him saying his name, not as Percy but as, “Daddy”.
When Audrey felt the pain in her stomach, Percy was instantly filled with a sense of dread. The Healers rushed to their house and after examining Audrey, they gave him a sorrowful shake of their heads.
He had failed as a father, just as he failed as a brother.
So I've had this one-shot on my computer for ages and since it's been a week since I went to Ed Sheeran (1/03/13 - best night of my life) and his songs kept popping up and I'm wearing the shirt I bought at the concert I thought I'd post it. And I admit, I cried a bit in this song (but that's because of personal reasons as well as seeing him live) and I'm just going to say he's phenomenal and none of this is mine, it is mostly Ed Sheeran's with a bit of J. K. Rowling's.
Please review on what you think?
Also, fun fact: as soon as I clicked 'Add Chapter' this song came up - coincidence, I think not!
Thanks for reading! :)
