“So where have you been? If I’m even allowed to know,” Lucy snapped, not really meaning to, but being tired of having Adam being so withdrawn with her lately. She was wiping the side of the kitchen in anger, ignoring the fact that she had been wiping the same side for a while now.

“I’ve been out,” Adam told her, taking his cloak off and placing it on the back of the chair. He turned back to look at her and shoved his hands into his trouser pockets.

“Yeah, anywhere nice?” Lucy asked, rubbing the side more vigorously, she could have done this by magic, but it helped to clear her head and make her feel better. That and it was stopping her from shaking Adam and telling him to snap out of whatever he was going through.

Adam shifted slightly as he rubbed a hand over his mouth, giving a smile as he dropped his hand from his face.

“I went to see your dad actually,” Adam admitted to her. His smile widened as he noticed that she faltered in her cleaning at his words, she didn’t turn around to face him though and he knew that he had surprised her.

“Oh -“ she said and Adam could tell that she was confused about why he would be going to see her dad. He took his other hand out of his pocket and kept it clenched in his hand as he shifted on his feet and got down onto one knee, opening his clenched hand in front of him and opening it so a small box was sitting on his hand. His stomach knotted with nerves as he opened the box to reveal a ring nestled in it.

Lucy waited for Adam to continue speaking for a few moments before she stood up straight and dropped her cloth on the side, feeling herself becoming overwhelmed with an emotion that she had been trying to keep inside. Frustration.

She was frustrated that he wasn’t telling her why he was being distant, frustrated that he wasn’t going to be opening up to her, frustrated that there was a stubborn stain on the kitchen counter that she had no idea how to remove, thinking about asking her grandmother for a stain remover spell the next time she saw her, and frustrated that she was getting so frustrated.

She closed her eyes and let out a small breath before opening her eyes and turning around to face Adam, deciding that she was going to tell him exactly how he was making her feel. The wind however was knocked out of her sails as she noticed that Adam was down on one knee in front of her.

Her eyes widened and Adam saw that he had shocked Lucy beyond what seemed to be words.

“Lucy, will you marry me?” he asked her, feeling nerves flooding through him as he tried to stop the wobble in his voice.

She stared at the ring open mouthed before she looked back at him.

As she continued her silence, many thoughts began running themselves through Adam's mind. Why hadn’t she said anything yet? Had he pushed her away too much for her to even want to marry him? Did she even still love him? He had to admit that those few seconds began to feel like hours to him, his stomach churning again as more nerves flooded through him.

“Yes,” she said in no more than a whisper, he must admit that this was the only time he had ever seen Lucy shocked enough to lose her voice.

“Yes, I will marry you Adam,” she said more loudly this time, a grin spreading across her face as she held her hand out and Adam put the ring onto her finger, before standing up and kissing her, a grin spreading across his own face.

“That’s why I’ve been a bit off for a while Lucy, I was so worried that you would find out what I had planned. I’m sorry that I made you think so badly, I love you so much, you have no idea how much.” Adam told her, hugging onto her tightly. Lucy gave pulled away slightly to give him another kiss before she looked down at the ring on her finger.

“I love you so much more,” she told him a smile across her face as she admired her engagement ring.

“Are you sure we should be doing this?” Lucy asked as she and Amelia was seated at the back of the restaurant, they could see Fred and Julie sitting a few tables away from them, hidden by other patrons of the restaurant. Lucy peered down at her menu as Amelia looked at Fred and Julie over her own, they were both laughing about something. It was later that night and Lucy had come with
Amelia to the restaurant that Fred and Julie were going to be having their date, to make sure that Fred didn’t mess it up. Adam was currently celebrating his newfound engagement to Lucy down the pub with James, after he and Lucy had a celebration themselves.

“I don’t even know why we’re doing this?” Amelia said, looking down at her own menu as she rubbed her protruding belly absent-mindedly, wondering if there was any mash potato on there, she really fancied some with gravy. There wasn’t.

“Fred wants us to make sure he doesn’t screw things up, and I didn’t want to come here alone,” Lucy stated, putting her menu down and leaning towards Amelia. “Can you see anything being ruined yet?”

Amelia shook her head as she looked across the restaurant again, Fred was fiddling with the table cloth and Julie seemed to have gone, her jacket was still on her seat so Amelia assumed she had left to go use the restroom.

“Well, Fred is looking a little sweaty,” Amelia stated, rubbing her tummy again, she smiled as she felt a fluttering.
Lucy looked at Fred and then looked back at Amelia. “What are you so happy about?” she asked her.

“I can feel one of them moving,” Amelia told her happily, Lucy almost squealed in excitement.

“What does it feel like?” Lucy asked eagerly, leaning across the table to talk to her soon to be sister in law, it was exciting to think that she and Amelia would soon be practically sisters.

“Kind of like, I’ve got a fish swimming around inside of me.”

“Oh, it’s so exciting!” Lucy said happily, Amelia nodded her agreement. “How far along are you now?”

“Just over seventeen weeks,” Amelia said happily, “only a few weeks until James and I find out what we’re having.”

“I’ve booked that day off of work so me and you can go shopping, I can’t wait!” Lucy said happily, clapping her hands in excitement.

Amelia gave a laugh, “I really can’t wait either, it’s been going so quickly. Although I can’t wait to stop getting back ache and feeling sick a lot, that’s very annoying.”

“I can’t wait until me and Adam have kids,” Lucy told her, smiling dreamily.

“When do you think you’ll have children?” Amelia asked her, Lucy gave a small shrug.

“I don’t know, probably after we get married.” Lucy told Amelia, looking back down at the menu in her hands.

“So how does it feel to be engaged?” Amelia asked Lucy, who smiled before dropping the menu onto the table and looking down at her left hand.

“It feels great! I can’t stop staring at my ring,” She admitted with a smile. “I feel so underdressed though, like none of my outfits are good enough for the ring.”

“Well, you look underdressed,” Amelia said cheekily, Lucy laughed as she threw a bit of breadstick at her. Amelia laughed as she dodged it. Lucy shook her head before she turned to look at Fred and
Julie, who were back to talking, she wondered how long ago Julie had come back from the toilet.

“There’s nothing I want to eat on this menu,” Lucy admitted, looking back down at her menu, Amelia agreed with her.

“There’s chocolate cake,” Amelia said with a smile, “we should get that and then go for a burger or something?”

“Sounds good to me,” Lucy said, waving her hand for the waiter to come over. They each gave him their order of chocolate cake and another drink, the waiter nodded as he took their menus and walked away.

“This is a very nice restaurant,” Julie said, looking around the room, her eyes caught sight of a table across the room, she leant to the side slightly and saw Lucy and Amelia sat there, each laughing at each other as they ate what appeared to be chocolate cake. “Is that your cousins over there?

“What?” Fred asked, whirling around and pretending that he didn’t know that they were there. “Oh yeah, I wonder what they’re doing here?”

Julie gave him a smile, knowing that there was more to the story that he wasn't admitting to, Julie decided not to push the subject.

“I’m having a very nice time Fred,” Julie said, smiling as she cut the steak in front of her, she had ordered the same as Fred, Fred liked that she liked the same food as him.

“I am too Julie,” Fred told her, feeling sweaty still and hoping that Julie wouldn’t notice, he didn’t want her to think he didn’t wash. He gave a sly ‘sniff’ of his clothes to check that they didn’t smell strange, they seemed clean to him.

“So err... are you working tomorrow?” Fred asked Julie, not knowing what else to say to her.

“Yeah, I’m working with you tomorrow,” Julie said with a smile at him. “You swapped with Hugo.”

“I remember now,” Fred said, running a hand through his hair for something to do. He didn’t know why he felt so awkward around Julie; they were perfectly fine at work, or as fine as Fred ever was around Julie.

The rest of the meal continued in small talk and awkwardness between the two, but neither of them said anything about it, each being nervous around the other. Fred had looked across the room to find Lucy and Amelia for help but he noticed that they had left already, not that they were much help anyway.

He was going to ask them for advice for how to say goodbye to Julie and if he should kiss her Goodnight at the end of the date. As it turned out Julie had given him a hug before apparating outside the restaurant, telling him that she had a nice time and she would see him tomorrow at work.

Fred couldn’t keep the grin off of his face as he realised that Julie had given him a kiss on the cheek before she left, he held a hand to his face as he decided to walk part of the way home, deciding whether or not to ever wash his face again.
