I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm trying to get back
The soles of my shoes echoed on the stone pavers, as I ran after her. Her honey-gold hair whipped behind her.
She disappeared, skidding around a corner, and I sank into the ground. Stupid Hogwarts. It was a magic school, wasn’t it? Why couldn’t it have pillows that appeared when you were tired, and depressed, and flat out despairing?
It was almost the end of the year. Flora was convinced that she was no good for me.
But, I loved her. And after fifth year, I might not ever see her again. If she really did move to that fancy-pants posh French school.
“Fucking hell,” I hissed, under my breath.
She’d been avoiding me, ever since we’d broken up. Which was stupid, now. Because I knew she didn’t mean to...
I mean, she loved me, didn’t she?
I certainly loved her. Her smile, the sound of her voice, and the way the made me laugh even when I was being Pessimistic Albus, instead of Enthusiastic Albus. Yes, she even had cute little names for my moods.
I couldn’t pretend I wasn’t hurt by what she did. When I saw her - lips mashed up against some handsome Hufflepuff Quidditch player’s - I flipped out. It tore me in half.
It had felt like my heart was literally breaking.
I missed her, though. She was my other half. I needed her.
Before the cool done run out I'll be giving it my bestest
And nothing's gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some
I stood up. No more moping, I told myself sharply. I was going to give it my all, to try to win her back. If Karma was real, anyway, I was bound to get lucky sometime soon.
“Oh, Merlin,” I whispered. Stairs were not my friends. They were evil. They were partners in crime with the stitches that were making me double over in pain. But it was worth it.
I knew where she was. Our place.
I ran faster, ignoring the crippling pain. She’s be there, I knew it.
Nothing would get in my way. Not even... Peeves?
“Ha ha! Little Potty breaking curfew!”
“Shut it, Peeves,” I hissed dangerously.
“Ooh, Potty, I’m so scared. What will happen if McGonagall comes?”
“You do that, and the Bloody Baron will fucking hear about it. That’s a promise.”
Peeves gurgled slightly, torn between the wrath of the Bloody Baron and the thrill of seeing me being punished.
“For Godric’s sake, Peeves! If I count to three and you’re still here...” I threatened.
He disappeared. I wondered briefly what house he’d been in as a Hogwarts student. Had he even been a student? Were Poltergeists spirits of the dead, like ghosts? What was their deal?
But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours
I could see her, her spindly arms wrapped around her knees, sobs emanating from her buried face.
“Flora?” I asked, cautiously, standing in the doorway of the Room of Requirement. Tissue boxes and a truck-load of pillows surrounded her.
“Go away, Albus,” she sniffled, “I did a horrible thing! I don’t deserve you!”
“It’s okay! I forgive you! I love you!”
“I – I can’t – I hate myself. Stay away, I’ll only hurt you!”
Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you will find love love love love
“Dammit, Flora, I love you! I don’t care about it! You’re a human, humans make mistakes!”
I collapsed beside her, pulling her towards me. She fit perfectly in my arms. She was meant for me. She cried even harder, only silently – shaking and leaving warm patches of liquid on my shirt.
“You can’t go to that Beauxbaton institution. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” I sighed, holding her tightly.
Listen to the music of the moment, people dance and sing
We're just one big family
And it's our God-forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved
After a minute, or twenty, I stood up, pulling up Flora with me.
“Oh, for Godric’s sake, let’s dance.”
“Wh – wh – what?”
“Let. Us. Dance.”
“Bu – but there’s no music!” she exclaimed.
“Pretend,” I said softly. “Pretend that there’s music, pretend that nothing ever happened.”
I spun her around. Her bare feet made barely a sound on the stone tiles, next to my clunking shoes.
So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm sure
There's no need to complicate, our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours
She pulled away.
“Al... I have to go, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” I kissed her. Her lips were smooth and soft against mine. “There’s no need to complicate it. I’m in love with you, Flora Katherine Maxwell.”
“I’m – I’m a Muggleborn,” she stuttered, pushing away from me.
“Do you really think that shit matters to me?”
I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
“I’ve been an idiot. Every day since... then, I’ve been regretting breaking up with you. You’re meant for me.”
Another tear rolled down her cheek.
“I don’t want you to be... I’m no good for you.”
“I don’t want anyone else,” I whispered. “I’ve tried to move on, but I can’t.”
I guess what I be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do, our name is our virtue
“I’m sorry, Al... I have to go, I really do. My parent’s jobs...”
“I understand.” I closed my eyes, willing myself not to burst into tears. I was a man. I couldn’t cry in front of her. “Let’s start fresh.”
“Yep. I’ve never met you before. Hi, my name’s Albus. Who are you?”
“I’m Flora,” she replied, giggling and sort of hiccupping at the same time.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re beautiful?”
But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait,
She hiccupped again. Cutely. But then, everything she did was adorable.
“Has anyone ever told you you’re the most wonderful person ever?”
“Nope,” I replied.
“Well, you are.”
Open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damm your free
Look into your heart and you'll find the sky is yours
So please don't, please don't, please don't
“I doubt it,” I whispered, kissing her again as we left the Room of Requirement, to an unknown future together.
There's no need to complicate cause our time is short
This o' this o' this is our faith
Disclaimer: Lyrics are owned by Jason Mraz, and his song is called I’m Yours. I don’t own anything anybody recognises!
First go at a one-shot songfic, and I must say that I’m kind of proud.
I love that song.
So, any thoughts that can be put into reviews and such?
Hey, my stories are all pretty much linked. In Your Average Crazy, Flora was briefly mentioned in about chapter four, and she's in the epilogue (though that hasn't been posted yet).
Siriusly, everything links in. :D
Planning on doing quite a few of these OSSF (One Shot Song Fics ), because I like writing them.
Anyway, people who review get a free Dementor. Muggles can’t see them. Although, actually, screw that. Nobody likes Dementors. Anybody who reviews doesn’t get a Dementor. Deal?
PS: This story needs some loving! ;)
