The office was dark and nobody was about so Harry sank into his chair, leaving the lights off. He needed to think. If Hermione wasn't going to give a witness he was going to have to come up with a pretty good case, or at least pray they didn't have decent defendants. He knew he had them if he asked about there alibis but what else. He was too tired to think, his eyes were almost closed and it was taking all his energy to stay awake. Summoning some coffee he drained the cup before pulling out a piece of parchment.
Dear people of the Wizengamot, I am writing to request a trial at your earliest convenience. The trial is against two men, Shane and James Mcgruff, they are cousins. They have been arrested and sent to Azkaban on the charges of kidnapping. Please inform me as soon as you have a date.
Tying it into a scroll he left it on the desk and leaned back in his chair, he just needed five minutes and then he would get up and send the letter before going home. He yawned and looked around his office, the clock showing it was almost one in the morning. It was oddly quiet with nobody else about and he closed his eyes to gather up his thoughts.
“Mr Potter? Harry?” A voice broke through his thoughts and he opened his eyes to see his assistant standing there, but he didn't know why.
“Charlie, what are you doing here? What time is it?” Harry asked, sitting up a little and looking around, surprised to find his office.
“I've just came to work, you were asleep at your desk and it's 8:30 in the morning,” he told him and Harry looked down to see the letter. He couldn't believe he had fallen asleep.
“Damm, ok will you send this letter off to the Wizengamot straight away and if they reply let me know immediately, I've got to go,” he told Charlie who nodded and took the letter off the desk before walking out of the room. Harry sighed, he had been hoping to go home and get some sleep there, maybe go in the shower but now he didn't have the time. Hurrying out of his office he walked to down the hall of Auror's offices and looked in each door for Danny. Eventually finding him he pulled him out and to one side.
“I've sent a letter to the Wizengamot, asking for a date for trial so I need you to start looking for evidence but it needs to be evidence that doesn't need a witness because Hermione might not be giving evidence,” he told him and Danny's face dropped for a second.
“Why ever not? Does she not want to punish them? Doesn't matter, I'll go back to where they held her and find something, they'll go down,” he told Harry who nodded and patted him on the arm before walking off to the disapperation point. He needed to find out for sure weather Hermione was going to give evidence or not.
Arriving at St. Mungos Harry slowly walked up the stair, too tired to go any faster and he yawned before walking into Hermione's room.
“Hey Hermi-” Harry started but stopped when he realised the room was empty and he stared around before walking out and heading to the healers desk.
“Hello there, can I help you?” The healer asked as Harry walked up to the desk and opened his mouth.
“Yes, can you tell me were Hermione Granger is? She was just in that room there,” he told him, gesturing with his arm and watching as the healer looked through the records of the patients.
“Are you sure she was here?” Harry nodded and the healer frowned, “well I can't find any records of Hermione Granger in any room but she may have been moved, I only came on shift a little while ago. If you wait here I'll go see what I can find,” he told Harry who nodded and tried to not think anything bad. She would have just been moved, that's all. He stood waiting in the corridor, the white walls and smell of the hospital were starting to get to him but he stayed put.
Ten minutes past, then twenty. Where was this healer? After thirty minutes the healer suddenly appeared at the end of the corridor and started walking towards Harry.
“Sorry about the wait Sir, she's been moved to floor 4, room 6,” he told Harry who thanked him and then walked off in the direction of the stairs. He found the room without difficulty and knocked before Hermione shouted for him to come in. She was sat up in bed and looked better then when he had last seen her, he was surprised Ron wasn't there though.
“Hey Harry,” she smiled as he walked in and he walked over to give her a hug before sitting down in the chair next to her bed.
“Hey you, how you feeling?” He asked her as he looked around the room and then back to Hermione.
“Okay thanks, they moved me here because they think I'll be able to go home soon,” she told him and he couldn't help but smile back at her. Everything seemed better, even the weather and he didn't want to ask her weather she wanted to give evidence or not.
“That's great,” he told her before leaning back and closing his eyes for a second. “I would have thought Ron would have been here,” he told her and she laughed.
“He is, he just went to get breakfast. I've told him to go home on a night time at least but he's adamant, he just sleeps in that chair. What about you? When was the last time you had a shower and slept in your bed?” She questioned him and he opened his eyes to catch her shaking her head at him.
“I'm fine, you don't need to worry about me. It's you that needs rest so you can get better,” he told her but she just continued to shake her head.
“I'm getting plenty of rest, it's you and Ron that need to look after your selves otherwise you're going to end up in here,” she told him and he laughed.
“Relax, I'll catch up on my sleep later, it's hardly going to land me in here is it?” He told her and she opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by the door opening.
“Hey, breakfast has arri- hey mate, what you doing here?” Ron asked, catching sight of Harry in the chair as he walked in with a tray of food.
“Hey, came to see Hermione, need to talk to you as well?” He added as he stood up and moved out of the way so Ron could sit down.
“Sure, what do you want to talk to me about?” He asked as he handed Hermione the tray and then looked towards Harry.
“Will you come outside for a minute?” He asked and Ron nodded before heading for the door. “I'll have to be going so I’ll see you later Hermione,” he told her as he give her a hug.
“Bye, get some sleep,” she told him but he just laughed before following Ron out of the door.
“What's up?” Ron asked as he leaned against the white wall opposite the door.
“I just need you to do me a favour, would you be able to find out weather Hermione wants to give evidence or not, she doesn't have too, and just let me know. Preferably by the end of the day, just because I've asked the Wizengamot for a date for trial,” Harry explained and saw Ron frown as he listened to him.
“You could have just did it there you know, while you were here?” He told Harry but he already knew why he didn't and he didn't blame him for it.
“It's the first time I've seen her happy since before everything, I didn't want to upset her. The medicines working?” He explained before leaning back against the wall.
“I know, I'll ask her for you, and no, she still hasn't took them. I don't know what happened, it's like she's a whole different person,” he explained and Harry nodded before letting the silence surround them.
“What about you? Would you be willing to give evidence?” Harry broke through the silence and Ron just looked at him before nodding.
“I'll do anything to help but what evidence could I give?”
“About the night Hermione was took, your account of it,” he explained and Ron nodded.
“Ok yeah, fine,” he told him before they both said goodbye and Ron went back into Hermione's room while Harry walked out of the hospital; a trip to see Ginny was next on the list.
