Chapter 17 : Sunsets and Strawberries
| ||Rating: Mature||Chapter Reviews: 10|
Background: Font color:
Hermione took a shower to wash the saltwater and sand off from the day they had had. After she was clean, she dried her hair and threw on a white summery dress and a pair of strappy sandals. She was off to find Draco because she hadn’t seen him in a while. To Hermione’s surprise there was a note on the sofa table in the living room. She picked up the folded piece of parchment with the initials H.J.M written on the top. She could recognize the familiar handwriting, though it wasn’t hard being that they were the only two in the house at the moment. It stated one simple line.
Come to the beach.
Hermione’s stomach began to twist in anticipation to what he had planned. She figured it didn’t matter what she wore but she looked down at her dress and contemplated her outfit for a moment. Then she thought to herself that she was being silly because Draco didn’t care. That thought only lead to more. Did he care? Why would he care? Did she want him to care? And her excitement was soon clouded with “was she ready for him to care about her?” Hermione did her best to silent her thoughts as she grabbed a sweater and headed for the stairs leading to the beach below.
The sun was about to set as Hermione stepped on the white sandy beach. This place was so beautiful that she could live here the rest of her life and never leave. Her eyes scanned the beach and water line looking for Draco. Her eyes land on him and she was marveled by what she saw. In the middle of the beach was a blanket spread out. She could see candles and the rims of the wine glass glinting in the remaining sun light. There was an old fashioned picnic basket beside him and she could not see his face because he was facing the water and the receding sun. The white, soft sand covered the sound of her footsteps as she approached him.
Draco was facing the sun but he was not really taking in the view in front of him, his thoughts kept going to Hermione and what she would think of tonight. He wasn’t sure she was ready or that she even wanted something like this but when he spoke to Blaise today he spilled the whole situation. He had told him about Seth and the kiss, how she was holding back and her past with Fred. Blaise had told him simply that “If you never try, you will never know.” Draco had argued she wasn’t ready but Blaise just told him the same thing and it got Draco to thinking that maybe if he put himself out there a little bit then maybe she would too. Draco felt a prickle on the back of his neck and he turned to see Hermione had come down to the beach and she looked incredibly pretty. The white dress really showed the tan she was developing from being here. Her skin glowed golden in the waning sun light and the soft salty breeze tugged on the ends of her brunette hair. His anxiety over her reaction was gone when he notice she had a hint of a smile upon her lips. Maybe she was ready to move on.
“What’s all of this?” She asked as Draco as she sat down next to him.
“Dinner on the beach, at sunset.” He told her straight as to not put a label on it. She smiled a true smile at him.
“Ok” She answered. She was content to sit in silence and watch the sun as it set on the horizon but the nerves got the best of Draco and he had to start talking but without anything in particular to say.
“I think the best part of the island in the sunset.” Draco started.
“It’s very beautiful.” She agreed and Draco looked over to gauge her reaction to everything. He may have thought she was pretty before but now, he though as he continued to stare at her.
“Yes, indeed it is.” Draco told her. When Hermione realized he was starting she blushed but continued to look out at the sea.
“Would you like a glass of wine?” Draco offered to keep the conversation going.
“Yes, please.” She finally looked at him. He quickly busied himself with the corkscrew and opening the bottle. The poured the deep red liquid into each glass before pulled out a tray of cheese, crackers and grapes.
“I had a nice time today.” Hermione offered.
“You did? Astoria can be a little tedious at times.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, though she had her own thoughts on the subject, she wished to hear his.
“Well, you see she wanted to be Mrs. Malfoy. At first I thought she had settled with Blaise because we are so much alike. Blaise was head over heels in love with her from the beginning even through the past that Astoria and I had together. It ended in a blow up and Blaise and I didn’t speak for over six months. I was still hurt by what had happened with Seth and I didn’t want to the same thing for my best mate. By the time we made up, they were married and had begun a life together. I guess it doesn’t matter because if she didn’t love him completely back then, she loves him with her whole heart now. With that said, it doesn’t mean that a girl like that can completely let go and move over when someone else takes their once dream.” Draco explained more than Astoria had.
“Oh.” was all Hermione could manage. She was unsure what to say.
“I don’t think she would change what happened then for anything now but still you know how it is.” Draco said because he didn’t know how to explain it.
“I think I understand. I got that vibe from her at dinner the other night but today it was nothing like that. She told me all about different pureblood families and their secrets. It was entertaining to say the least.” She informed him of her day.
“I’m glad. I was afraid how a whole day with a group of Slytherin’s would go.” Draco teased.
“I was in the snake pit for sure.” She said with a smile. Hermione was pleasantly surprised as the conversation continued to flow. Draco described many of the fish and weird things that he and Blaise had seen in the water today. The cheese was gone and Hermione was picking at the bunch of grapes on the platter. She tossed one in the air and caught it with her mouth. Draco took a grape and tossed it a little high and caught it in his mouth.
“Open up.’ She grabbed a grape and scooted a little ways away from Draco. Draco stared at her for a moment with a cocked eyebrow. “Just do it.” She scolded and with a shrug Draco did as he was asked. Hermione tossed the grape high in the air and it landed perfectly in Draco’s mouth. Hermione laughed in delight.
“My turn.” Draco told her.
“Alright, but you have a standard to live up to.” She tilted her head backwards and opened her mouth. Draco drew back his hand and released the grape, it went soaring through the air and popped Hermione right on the nose and they both burst out laughing and Hermione felt like she was a teenager again playing such a silly game with Draco, but it was nice.
“How about we stop this unless someone wishes to lose an eye.” Hermione sat back down on the blanket and Draco couldn’t help but notice it was a bit closer than before. So far the night had felt more like two friends hanging out on the beach. The sun was long gone and a breeze was creating a chill. Draco had anticipated this and had set up and fire pit with logs in it already and he lit it was a swish of his wand.
“Ok, I have something else for us. Kali made us a special treat.” Draco advised her. Hermione looked eagerly to what he was going to pull out of the basket next. The evening had been wonderful so far and she didn’t really want it to end just yet. Hermione saw Draco pull out a bottle of champagne and after a few moments the bottle was open and glasses were poured. Then Draco reached into the basket once more and removed a small covered dish.
“Close your eyes.” Draco meant to ask but it came out more of a command. Hermione eyed him warily but did as asked. Hermione felt Draco move closer to the butterflies in her stomach went crazy. She heard as he opened the dish. “Now open your mouth.”
Hermione hesitated for a moment but trusted him. She opened he mouth and felt him lean in and placed something in her mouth. Within seconds she let out a small sigh of delight. It was chocolate dipped strawberries. Her eyes opened and realized Draco was mere inches from her face. Their eyes were locked as he lift a hand and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear that the wind had been playing with. There was something in her that want to kiss him. She watched as he eyed her lips eagerly.
“Draco.” She whispered and in that instant their lips crashed together. With one hand resting on the nape of her neck he wrapped his other arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him. In sheer seconds Hermione pulled into his lap and she was straddling him. One hand moved to her knee and she trembled as his hand slid up her leg and under the hem of her dress. Draco moaned into her lips as she gently rocked her hips and her hands ran through his hair. Hermione reached down and started to unbutton his shirt. Draco took all the strength he had and pulled back.
“I’m sorry, that’s not what…” He was silenced as she held a finger in front of his lips. Her eyes searched his face.
“Don’t.” she leaned into him and pressed her forehead against his. “I want this. I want…” She trailed off.
“What?” He asked breathlessly. “What do you want?” he begged for her to finish her sentence. He watched her as she looked at him. She was biting her lips as though she was contemplating something. Draco wanted; no he needed her to finish her sentence. He saw the determination in her eyes.
“You.” One word had Draco soaring to the moon but it was too good to be true for him.
“Are you sure?”
“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life.” She told him. She tilted her head down and her lips softly grazed his and she was looking into his steel gray eyes. She knew in that moment everything she had said was true and she wanted to know what he wanted.
“What do you want Draco?” She asked and he loved the way his name rolled off her lips. He knew what he wanted. He wrapped his arms around her and whispered.
“I want you Hermione.” He pressed his lips to hers more firmly as to show his earnest in his statement. The kiss started slow but grew and Hermione grew desperate for more. She finished unbuttoning his shirt and slid the two halves off of his shoulders. She knew he had a good body but as she raked her fingers over his back and shoulders she could feel the muscles coiled beneath his skin. His lips had moved to neck and she moaned as his lips moved over the right spots. Hermione was unsure what happened because she was gone to him but the next thing she was on her back and he was looking down at her. Her dress was gone and she lay there bare in the moonlight. His eyes asking permission and she granted it and she lost herself completely to him on the beach.
