“Good morning, Potter! Is there anything I can do for you?” I asked Albus with false cheerfulness. He seemed content on following me through all my classes, and sat right behind me in Herbology.
“Could I borrow you’re Herbology notes? I fell asleep in class.” He said, grinning sheepishly.
“You were awake in Herbology.” I stated, my eyes narrowing.
“Well awake to Professor Longbottom. I was daydreaming.” He said.
I raised an eyebrow, “Daydreaming? Really, Potter?” I asked.
“Well you were sitting right in front of me. When a guy has a nice sight like that, they tend to fantasize.” He said, smirking suggestively.
My eyes widened, “You’re disgusting.” I said, and turned on my heel to run over to Dom and Jules, the latter was eating Rick’s face off.
“What did Al want?” Dom asked as we started walking ahead.
“My Herbology notes.”
“Herbology notes?” Dom asked, confused, “Not very classy, Al.” she muttered.
“Stop insulting me, Dom.” Albus said, falling into step with us.
My eyes shot daggers at him, but he was oblivious to it. I think Rose told him to follow me around and annoy me till I die. I wonder what I did to her, that she hates me so much she’ll try to kill me through her cousin.
“Does Rose hate me, Dom?” I asked.
“No, of course not.” Dom said, turning away from Albus.
“Then why did she send her loony-bin of a cousin to kill me?” I asked, glaring at Albus.
You may think I’m being dramatic, but being yelled at and pointed at in the Great Hall is pretty damn embarrassing.
“Love, I’m not here to kill you.” Albus said, cocking his head sideways to look at me.
“Bollocks you’re not. Why else would you follow me around the whole morning?” I asked.
“Maybe because I think you’re very attractive.” He said, smirking.
Stupid Potter smirk. I’d seen it on his brother, James, countless times.
I huffed and walked away, leaving Dom to deal with Albus.
“Could I still get your Herbology notes?” he hollered after me.
“No!” I yelled back.
“PRETTY PLEASE? WITH A CHERRY ON TOP?” he asked.
“NO!” I said with a sense of finality.
Dom caught up with me seconds later, “I believe he meant what he said.” she said.
“What? That he wanted my Herbology notes?” I asked.
“Well that too. I think he actually thinks you’re pretty.” She said.
I looked at Dom like she was crazy, “Cool story, brah.” I said.
“GUYS! WAIT FOR ME!” Jules yelled, running behind us, without Rick.
“Where’s Rick?” I asked.
“Right behind me.” Jules said, looking over her shoulder, “Oh, never mind. I don’t know.” She said.
“Bree, I really need you’re Herbology notes.” Albus said from out of nowhere.
“Albus, leave me alone.” I said exasperatedly.
“Will you promise to leave me alone if I give them to you?” I asked.
“No. But I’ll annoy you less.” He said, grinning.
I sighed and gave him my book, “Thanks. I’ll ask you if I have any questions.” He said.
“Don’t do that.” I said, “But alright, sure. Buh-bye.” I said, and on cue, Dom pushed him into a classroom.
“Did you ask Rose what this was all about?” I asked Dom, while Jules stifled her laughter.
“No. Do you want me to?” Dom asked.
“Just ask her why she wants to kill me.” I said as we approached the guys.
“Who would want to kill you?” Charlie asked, hearing my last sentence.
“The question is, who wouldn’t?” Matt said, grinning.
Charlie nodded in agreement, and I hit them both, “Very funny.” I said sarcastically.
“I trust you’ve been having a bad day?” Paul asked as Rick and Jules began snogging…again.
“Not a bad one. Just an annoying one.” I said, but elaborated no further.
“Well I got detention.” Shane said, almost happily.
“What for?” Dom asked in surprise. Shane was very goody-two-shoes most of the time; at least with the teachers. They all loved him. So detention was a bit surprising.
“He swore at me in front of Professor Lupin.” Matt said in a very matter-of-fact manner.
“Oooooh! What did you say?” Jules said, joining conversation once she deemed it appealing enough to tear away from Rick.
“I called him a man-whore.” Shane said easily.
“Look who’s talking.” Rick coughed.
“I always thought Charlie was our group’s man-whore.” Paul said.
Charlie grinned sheepishly, but didn’t really bother defending his honour.
“I always thought Jules was our group’s whore.” Matt said casually.
We all stopped talking at once, and Matt realized his error.
I quickly turned to Jules, who’s eyes were red and brimming with tears. She turned on her heel and ran before anything else could happen.
Rick punched Matt in his gut and he fell on the floor, “That was for insulting my girlfriend.” He said. Then he kicked him, “And that was because you’ve always been a bastard.” He said.
Then he took off in the direction that Jules had taken.
We all looked at Matt accusingly, “That was uncalled for.” Dom said.
“We called Charlie a man-whore! I didn’t think it would be a big deal if I said the same about Jules!” Matt said, dusting himself off and getting up.
“I’m a guy. I really don’t care much for being a stud. That’s a compliment, in my head.” Charlie said.
“Yeah, but it’s a lot more insulting for a girl.” I added.
“But it’s true!” Matt exclaimed.
Paul punched him again, and he staggered, “What was that for?” Matt asked.
“For being a dick.” Paul said.
“Let’s go find Jules. You know Rick won’t be able to.” I whispered to Dom.
She nodded, and we ran to her favourite spot, the Quidditch pitch.
Yup, Jules loved the Quidditch pitch.
And sure enough, we found her, sitting in the middle of the pitch with her head in her knees, her shoulders shaking as she cried.
“I don’t want to talk to anyone.” Jules informed us as we came closer.
“Well that’s too bad. We’re you’re best friends. You have to talk to us.” Dom said.
“He was just being a dick, Jules.” I said.
“Matt is always like that, Bee. He’s always joking around. But this time, what he said was true. That’s why it hurts so much.” Jules said, as I put my arms around her.
She didn’t shrug them off, so I took it as a good sign. We were getting there.
“The fact that you dated a lot of people doesn’t make you a whore or a slut, love. It just means you can’t find the right person.” Dom said.
“But I have slept with nearly half of them.” Jules said bitterly.
“That doesn’t mean anything.” I said fiercely, “Does Rick care? Do Shane, Charlie and Paul care? Do we care? Nope. Not one bit. So I don’t know why you’d waste your tears over someone like Matt.” I said.
Jules sniffed, “Thanks.” She said, smiling slightly.
Yes! A smile! Almost there! Home run, baby! We got this!
“And you won’t even believe how hard Rick punched him.” Dom said.
“Really? He actually punched him?” Jules asked, her smile growing wider.
“And kicked him too.” Dom said happily.
Yup…we did it.
“Matt’s just a jerk anyway.” I said, “Rick on the other hand…he’s the most perfect guy for you. The best you’ve ever dated.” I said.
“He is, isn’t he?” Jules said, smiling as we pulled her up.
By the time we reached our next class, all of us were singing through the corridors, making many portraits stare at us as we passed.
Sheesh! Judgemental much?
“Jules, I’m sorry.” Matt said as soon as we entered Potions.
Jules’ mouth pursed into a hard line, “I am in a very good mood now, no thanks to you. I don’t really want to talk to you, like ever. So please, don’t waste your breath.” She said, her eyes flashing.
She went to her seat, holding her head high, and Rick was absolutely delighted to see her safe and sound…and of course, happy.
Thank you. He mouthed as he hugged her.
Dom and I grinned.
We glared at Matt, who looked like a lost puppy, Jerk. I mouthed.
He said nothing and turned away guiltily.
This school sure does have its share of jerks, don’t you think?
