Chapter 10

A mournful silence fell over the house of Fred and Jessica Weasley. They sat silently in their home, pained to talk about the event that was on both of their minds. On the table was a copy of the Daily Prophet. A picture of Alyssa and Louis was posted on the cover as well as pictures of Hannah Longbottom and Rolf Scamander. Next to the pictures on the cover was an article about the four murders that had occurred so far. Wizards and witches all throughout Britain were starting to think that all the death’s weren’t just random. Someone had a bone to grind with the Weasley’s.

“I found them, you know,” Fred said, almost in a whisper, breaking the blanket of silence that had covered him and his wife.

Jessica’s jaw dropped slightly. She hadn’t heard about the murders until the Daily Prophet printed the story. However, she had noticed the strange way that Fred had been acting. She never thought that his mood was caused by finding the corpse of one of his closest friends.

“Are you serious?” she asked, hoping that he wasn’t.

Unfortunately, Fred sadly nodded, looking at the table. Jessica looked at Fred and he soon looked up to meet her glance. It was clear that she wanted to hear about how he had found them. Fred sighed before telling the depressing tale to Jessica.

“James, Andrew, Louis, and I were supposed to meet the night before but Louis didn’t show. So the next morning we went to his house to see if everything was alright. The door was ajar and we walked inside. There was an ugly smell coming from upstairs and we followed it to the bedroom. That’s where we found them,” he explained, remembering the terrible occurrence and shuddering, “It was the bodies that were making the awful smell; apparently they had been there for days.”

“That’s awful,” Jessica replied, trying not to picture the horrible scene, “Do you think all these recent murders are connected?”

“I’m sure they are. How else would you explain the deaths of four people all associated with the Weasley family?”

Jessica could hear the sob trying to escape Fred’s throat. She could tell how much it pained him to see people in his family dropping like flies. Besides, she remembered how close he and Louis were while at Hogwarts. Hell, they were still close up until the day he died. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose her best friend. It was something that no one deserved to go through, especially at the young age of 22.

“Fred?” she asked hesitantly, trying to get him to talk about it.

That was all it took to get him to burst.

“I can’t stand it! Why are all these people dying? Merlin, one of my cousins and best friends is dead! I have no fucking idea who these assholes are going to murder next! What if they kill James next? Or Andrew? Or you, Jess? I don’t think I could deal with it if they murdered you, Jess,” Fred sobbed.

Jessica held her husband and let him cry into her shoulder, a few tears escaping her own eyes as well. While she was never as close with Alyssa and Louis as Fred was, they were still friends of hers and it made her sad to realize she’d never see them again. It also pained her to see Fred like this. Jessica couldn’t remember ever seeing Fred in this emotional state before. She wanted to know who was committing these violent acts against the family. If she ever found out, she would kill that person in a heartbeat.

“Who do you think is killing people, Jess?” Fred asked after a while, pulling away slightly so that he could look at his wife.

“To be honest, it could be a load of people,” Jessica replied, wishing she had a better answer to give, “Former death eaters, enemies from our time at school, enemies from our parent’s time at school; it really could be anyone.”

Fred cringed. That was what he had thought she would say but it still troubled him to hear it. He wished that she could have given him a specific name so he could kill the bastard who was killing all of these people and get revenge on his friend’s death. No one deserved to be killed in the middle of the night while they were sleeping. No one deserved to have their rotting corpse lie in a house for days before anyone found it.

“Who do you think they are going to kill next?” Fred asked, hoping that her response could help him prepare for more deaths to come.

Jessica sighed. She was afraid he was going to ask this question. The problem was, the Weasleys and their friends took up a good chunk of the Wizarding World. It really could be anyone. Lying was a possibility, but she knew that wasn’t the right thing to do. As much as she knew it would hurt Fred to hear her say it, she had to tell him the honest truth.

“I have absolutely no idea.”

***I hope you enjoyed that chapter :) I know that not a lot happened, but things should be getting much more eventful soon. Any more guesses on who Viper or Raven are? How about who the next victim is going to be? I'd love to know! As always, I hope you continue to read, review, and enjoy this story :D ***
