Chapter 2 : Albus: The Challenge

If Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy ever tell you they’re not crazy, don’t believe them.
I mean it, don’t.
“Now you’re just being dramatic.” Lily said when I told her this that night at the common room.
“You don’t even know the whole story.” I told her as we sat near the fireplace.
“I was there in the morning, Al.” she reminded me.
“You missed most of it.” I said.
“Then do explain.” She said mockingly.
So I did-
My breakfasts were usually uneventful. Scorpius and Rose would awkwardly converse, and then deny their feelings for each other, Lily would have a new boy problem, and Dom would always be with her Ravenclaw friends.
Sometimes I wish James was still at Hogwarts. At least he was normal.
Anyway, I don’t really remember how it came up, but we were discussing my sexiness.
Yes, I’m very sexy. Don’t deny it. You know it.
“You’re as bad as James!” Rose said.
“Am not!” I said.
“Are too!” Rose protested.
“I’m going to agree with Rose on this one. I totally see your family resemblance.” Scorpius said, grinning.
Rose flashed him a smile and turned back to me victoriously, “See?” she said.
“Well at least I can get any girl I want. It took James two years to convince Emma to go out with him.” I said.
Scorpius raised an eyebrow, “Any girl?” he asked.
“Any girl.” I clarified.
“Shall we put that to the test?” Rose asked.
“Sure.” I said, waving a hand carelessly.
I really don’t mean to sound vain, but this is quite hereditary. Dad told me Grandpa James was just like me too, though his love for Granma Lily was a lot more like James’ love for Emma.
Stupid blokes who fell in love.
But Rose grinned at Scorpius like they just shared some evil idea.
“You will seduce any girl we choose. Just one. And you will do it properly. Get to know her, attract her with your ‘charm’ or whatever it is you think you and get her to snog you. We’ll leave shagging out, because that’s just cruel. Deal?” Scorpius asked.
“That’s crazy! You guys doubt me?” I asked.
“Scared, Al?” Hugo said unhelpfully from the other end of the table.
“No.” I said quickly, “Deal.” I said, holding my hand out to Scorpius.
We shook on it.
“Now…for the girl…” Rose said, closing her eyes and thinking.
“What about Emily?” Rose asked Scorpius.
“Emily Bronson? Too easy.” Scorpius replied.
“Unless he wants Professor Longbottom to kill him.”
“She’s that slut from Ravenclaw, right?” Scorpius said.
“That’s not very nice Scorpius.” Rose said seriously.
Scorpius shrugged his shoulders.
Then Rose’s eyes lit up like she had an idea. She stood up on her chair and began scanning the Great Hall. She looked like an idiot.
Then she stopped when she was facing the Ravenclaw side, “ALBUS! ALBUS! I FOUND HER!” she yelled, pointing frantically.
“It’s rude to point, Rose.” Lily said, sitting next to me.
Rose ignored her and pulled me up, “HER!” She said.
She was pointing at the group of seventh year Ravenclaws, “Um…specifications?” I whispered.
“The redhead.” She clarified.
I looked at the redhead, who the whole Great Hall was staring at. Poor girl. What’s her name? Um….B-B…ok, I don’t know her name. I know it starts with a B though.
Yes, I am awesome.
But she looked like an innocent little thing. She had long red hair, tied into a side braid and a single black streak weaving through it. Her eyes were a bright, sapphire blue , tinged with green, that shone brightly even when she was embarrassed. Her skin was fair, almost as fair as Scorpius and that was saying something. She was of average height, around 5’5. That was nearly a foot shorter than me, ha!
All in all, she looked pretty. I mean, I could work with this. This was going to be too easy.
“WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT?” She yelled, feeling self conscious.
Everyone turned back to their own business and Rose and I sat down, “This is going to be easy.” I said, grinning.
“Sure.” Rose said, “That’s one of Dom’s best friends, I might add.” She said.
“So? What’s your point?” I asked.
“Okay. Let’s set a deadline on this.” Scorpius interrupted.
“New Years?” Lily suggested. I assumed Hugo and Scorpius updated her at the time, but I later found out she was just randomly pitching in.
“Four months? That a bit much, don’t you think?” Hugo said.
“Actually, I think New Years is perfect.” Rose said, looking at Scorpius who looked like he was about to protest.
So Scorpius agreed, “New Years it is.” He said.
“And if you lose, what do I get?” I asked.
Scorpius whispered something in my ear.
I grinned and nodded. Rose raised her eyebrows expectantly, but I didn’t say anything.
“I’m not giving you anything. I’m your cousin.” Rose said, giving me a Aunt- Hermione-look.
“You need to stop pulling the ‘Aunt Hermione’ look!” I complained as I gave in.
She smiled, “And if you lose?” she asked.
“Well first of all, I won’t.” I said, and she scoffed, “But if I do, I’ll be very embarrassed that I couldn’t defend my honour.” I said.
“That’s not enough.” Scorpius said, “You know what I’m doing if I lose.” He said suggestively.
I thought a little, and saw Lily looking at me, “If I lose, I’ll let Lily date whoever she wants.” I said.
Lily’s eyes widened, “Say yes, Rose! Please Scorpius!” she begged, getting on her knees.
Rose and Scorpius laughed, “Ok. That’s a deal.”
- End explanation.
“That was the most eventful breakfast I’ve had in a while at Hogwarts.” I finished, looking at Lily.
“Charming. This is going to fun.” Lily said, grinning.
I raised my eyebrows at her.
She laughed, “Well for starters, what’s her name?” she asked when she finished laughing.
“Bree Summers.” I said.
“And is she smitten by you yet?” Lily asked.
“I haven’t turned up the charm yet.” I said, “Though I did bump into her this morning. All my books fell and she look flustered.” I said thoughtfully.
“And…?” Lily asked hopefully.
“She didn’t seem too interested in me. She seemed quite annoyed about how we, and I paraphrase, took away her dignity very publically today.” I said.
“Well obviously. No one would like to be pointed and yelled at.” Lily said.
“I see you’re point. But don’t worry. I got this.” I said.
Lily rolled her eyes and got up from her spot, “I sure hope not.” She said, smirking.
“Real supportive Lil.” I mumbled.
She laughed, kissed me on the cheek and went up to her dorm.
I went up to my dorm soon, where Scorp was reading a book in bed, “Rose gave me some background on that girl.” He said.
“What’s your point?” I asked, getting under my covers as I turned to his four poster bed.
“Good luck.” He said simply.
“This is going to be easy.” I said.
“If you say so.” He replied.
“You’re not a very supportive best friend.” I said accusingly.
“No, I’m not, am I?” he said, and chuckled, “Especially if I’m hitting on your favourite cousin.”
“Well it’s about time. Even Hugo thinks so.” I said.
Scorpius’ pale face turned red, “What?”
“Your own your own, buddy.” I said, and rolled over to sleep.
I’m not losing. No way am I losing.
When I get challenged, I never back down. And I never lose.
