hi guys...first of all, i would like to thank the people who've read my story so far and also to those who favourited it...am so glad you like my story...also the fifth chapter of the story is up, and this is from Layla's point of view...i really hope you like this chapter as well!!
“Hey there Lay” my friend Dana Robbins greeted me. See, Dana is in my year but in Gryffindor, and she is also a Chaser for their Quidditch team. Since we are friends from the time we were in diapers, not to mention the fact that we are also neighbours, we hang out often. She’s pretty cool and has loads of friends but we make it a point to meet at least once in a week to catch up. And this week, she had a lot in her mind.
And all of them happened to concern the one person I’d hoped to forget.
“So...” she drawled out, as we sat on the edge of the lake at the bottom of the beech tree, our favourite spot. The afternoon was lovely, and we were lazily gazing out at the lake, where a few students were swimming and some of them were playing with the Giant Squid. They kept poking the Squid’s tentacles and then swam away before it could catch them. I don’t understand why anyone in the name of Merlin would want to do that, but then these students happened to be Gryffindors and they tended to do dumb shit like this all the time, thinking they are oh-so-cool.
Show-offs, the whole lot are.
“So?” I inquired, raising my eyebrows slightly.
“What’s up?” she asked.
“Really? Is there anything you’d like to talk to me about?” Dana asked.
“Nope” I said, my mouth popping on the letter ‘p’.
“Are you sure? I mean, I’m here if you want to talk or rant about anything...or anyone” she said, glancing slyly at me out of the corner of her eye. She was literally bursting to know what happened between Albus and I. Not that I’m saying anything happened in the first place, but then she seemed uncharacteristically curious that it made me wonder what he’d been telling people about me behind my back.
“Okay, I’ll bite. What do you know?”
“Oh, I don’t know anything!” she said a little too innocently, but I knew her too well to completely trust that tone of hers. Plus, she had this twinkle in her eye that I knew she got when she was being mischievous.
“Oh come on! Are you really trying to pull that one on me?” I asked her sarcastically, raising my eyebrows.
“Okay, okay. You win” she laughed, “You know me too well” she sighed dramatically.
I rolled my eyes at that, “Alright Robbins. Spill. What do you know?” I asked her, my curiosity piqued.
“So what exactly happened between Albus Potter and you?” she asked.
“Nu-uh. You are not getting anything from me until you tell me what you know” I said.
“So something did happen between you two?” she gasped.
This is so not how I wanted the conversation to go.
Change the topic Layla, bring it back on track! I told myself.
“That is not what I meant!” I retorted. (I may or may not have blushed. What? Stop looking at me like that!)
“Is that a blush I see Lewis?” she teased, grinning impishly at me.
I know. I’m so clever and witty with my comebacks. I should be given an award for them.
She started giggling. Now, I normally wouldn’t mind the giggles, but this is Dana we are talking about. That girl has the loudest giggle Ever. And she goes on and on and on. She does not even mind if people are staring at her. And the worst part is, when you hear her giggle, it makes you giggle. Hence, as I’m sure it came as a surprise to no one, we were rolling around in the grass like we’ve been on the wrong end of an overdone Cheering Charm. Eventually, the giggles subsided and we sobered down when we noticed the people by the lake giving us the weird eye.
“No, seriously. Tell me Layla” she said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“There really is nothing to tell, Dana. We just bumped into each other a few times. Two, to be exact. And nothing of significance happened, unless you count Potter Junior getting his arse whooped by Marvellous Me. But since I’m sure that I can do that pretty much anytime...” I drawled off, grinning at her.
She shook her head at me, smiling slightly.
“What? Why are you smiling?” I asked her.
“You don’t know how much you’ve affected him, Layla”
“Affected him? Excuse me? This is Potter we are talking about, right? I wasn’t sure anything could penetrate that thick skull of his to actually have an impact on him”
“You really don’t know, love. Albus...he’s different. The whole week he’s been so...erratic. It’s just abnormal, seeing him like this” she said.
“Potter is abnormal Dana. You’re just too prejudiced to see it because you’re in his house, his team, and you’re one of his best friends”
She swatted me playfully on the arm and said, “That’s not it, you lunatic. You wouldn’t understand”
She sighed, “Okay...Albus is someone who always has his emotions under control. He never shows it out to anyone. He has this like, shield around him, and he projects himself like an uncaring, disinterested arse, but underneath all that he really is a sweetheart and the most caring person I know. He never shows out his anger, his joy, his sadness or anything, for that matter. He is the most emotionally stable person in our team. The calm one. The person who breaks up arguments and the person who is the rock of the team. James may be the Captain, but it is Al who holds the group together with his cool approach. The only time you can see the extent of his care is when he is with his family, especially Lily and Rose. Now...for the past week, he had been having so many mood swings it’s so unnatural for him and that’s left all of us wondering...”
“Wondering what?” I asked.
“The reason behind this change” she answered simply.
“All of that is fine; Dana. But why do you think that any of the change Potter is going through is because of me?” I asked her, surprised she had jumped to the conclusion that I had somehow managed to extract a semblance of human emotion from him. The disgusting part is that she seemed happy and grateful about that. Which did not help my confusion.
“Well...maybe because he hasn’t stopped mumbling about you?” she asked meekly, glancing at me through her bangs.
I won’t even deny it. I was stunned.
“What?” I asked, completely taken aback “But... why... I mean... how the... what the... what do you...are you... what?” I stammered.
“Exactly” she said, a smug look crossing her face for an instant.
“What in the name of Merlin’s Beard are you talking about Dana?” I asked; the shock still evident on my face.
“Well, he was first completely depressed about the match, then he kept grumbling your name along with a few curses the next day, and then he went back to being moody, and he stays locked up in his dorm for a long time, then he takes a walk and comes back smiling, even when he’s landed himself in detention, not that that was exactly a surprise, but this smile was different... more genuine... and the whole week he’s been distracted! All of this while muttering your name mixed with curses and smiles. What do you expect us to make of this?” she asked indignantly.
I was still pretty much in shock. I mean, I could feel my face frozen in the same expression. One part of me was annoyed that he had cursed me (How dare he? That tosser!) but deep down, another part of me was happy I’d made him smile (Don’t look at me like that, I’m a Hufflepuff. We like to make others happy. Even if it were people like Potter)
“So naturally we thought you had something to do with this. Can you blame us?” she said, throwing her hands in the air in exasperation.
I still didn’t react.
I don’t know why I am still in shock.
Someone, help me please.
A little Rennervate, maybe?
“Hello? Hogwarts to Layla” Dana said, waving her hand in front of my face.
I was still staring at her like a dumb goldfish.
Charming, I know.
No wonder I manage to make people fall irresistibly in love with me.
“We-..that’s not... really... I’m not... “ I sputtered, finally having found my voice. And before I knew it, I spilled all that had happened, right from the match to the midnight meeting to the library, and the detention. Everything. Without sparing any detail.
Dana just looked thoughtful after I was done. She also didn’t know what to make of this.
“Well, it doesn’t matter anyway” I told her, “It’s not like Potter knows or cares about me. Not that I want him to do that. I am glad that he finally showed some humane reactions and provided conclusive proof that he is not related to Grawp or Trolls, but-“ I stopped cold at the sound of someone clearing their throat.
I turned to face the whole of the Gryffindor team, plus Malfoy (yeah, him and Rose are a couple, but that is an entirely different story, and don’t even ask me how in the name of Merlin did that happen or is still going on what with their whole family history and what not) in their swimsuits grinning at me; with the exception of someone.
A very red-faced someone.
Glaring at me through his spectacles, his eyes flashing green fire at me.
