Chapter 4 : You Know, I Should Make Up A List...
| ||Rating: Mature||Chapter Reviews: 4|

“If I tell you to give me a piggy back ride, what would you say?” Nova asked the following morning at breakfast, as she put a spoon in her mouth upside down, full of oatmeal.
Sirius looked up. “Er…I’d probably tell you to jump on my back?”
She nodded. “Okay.”
Sirius looked confused. “The point of that was…?”
She waved it off. “Nothing. You just passed a test, is all.” He lifted his brows once more, but didn’t pry. Remus looked quite amused. And James, well…James was just odd, that one.
Lily kept staring at him, Nova noticed. It was almost as if she was expecting him, or even asking for him, to keep pestering her. Instead, he hasn’t spoken to her much for the past few days.
“What’s your favorite muggle candy, James?” Nova asked.
He blinked. “Erm…I don’t…know?”
“I like twix. Twix and lifesavers,” she laughed loudly, winking at Remus, who threw his head back and laughed. Sirius grunted at this, and James and Peter looked confused.
“You’re so weird,” James commented, but chuckled.
“Why, thank you, Sir James.”
“You’re ever so welcome Madame Nova.”
A small silence surpassed them before Nova piped up again. “You know who the perfect boyfriend would be?” she asked. All four of them turned to face her. “It’d be like, the four of you, only combined.”
They exchanged glances. “I mean,” she continued, obliviously, “you’re funny and sorta cute,” she pointed to James. “You’re kinda cute like a puppy sometimes,” she pointed to Sirius. “You’ve got beautiful arms and pretty eyes,” she shrugged to Remus. “And you’re quiet and not always so obnoxious,” she pointed at Peter.
Lily stared at her.
“What?” she asked, seeing the looks on their faces.
Remus slowly looked down at his arms. James began poking his face. Sirius began rubbing his forehead. And Peter just sat there, opening and closing his mouth
“You know, I think you’re right,” Lily slowly said. “It would be like the ultimate package!”
Nova turned in her seat, and excitedly bopped up and down. “Right?! And Sirius has that really soft hair!”
“And Remus is really strong, too,” Lily added.
“Yeah! And, I mean, come on! James has got the perfect smile!”
“And Peter’s got perfect teeth!”
“And have you seen the color of Remus’ eyes?”
“Sirius has those cute dimples too!”
“Peter’s got nice eyebrows too.”
“And Potter’s got a straight nose!”
The Marauders sat there awkwardly, watching Lily and Nova obsess over some few traits of theirs. “Er…this is really awkward,” Remus muttered.
Nova remembered they were still there. “Oh right. Sorry,” she laughed.
“Does that mean they’re both attracted to all four of us?” Sirius questioned out loud.
Both Lily and Nova turned to look at each other with wide eyes. “Never in my life-!”
“Me, attracted to Potter-!”
“Pshh, please,” they both said, waving their hands. “Not for another century,” Lily said.
Nova nodded. “Yeah. What she said.”
James smirked. “Right. We believe that. Because that’s obviously why you just got excited and began listing good traits of us that give us good quality as a boyfriend.”
“Did you know that hippogriff dung is used in some potions?” she randomly stated.
All five pairs of eyes fell on her.
“We must keep her around,” James stated after a short silence.
“I like lemons.”
Remus laughed. “What?”
“Don’t look at me like that!” Nova scolded. “I simply like lemons. They’re very sour. And sour is delicious.”
Remus looked very amused with this. “So if I handed you ten lemons right now, in the middle of class…”
“I’d start peeling them with my nails and suck up all the juice,” Nova finished for him. Remus chuckled and shook his head.
They were currently in Transfiguration, and McGonagall had allowed them to sit anywhere they pleased for only that day. As she said, the following day, they would have their permanent seats.
Remus, as Nova notated, had a beautiful laugh. She absolutely loved how he threw his head back and would laugh heavily, his eyes sparkling.
She couldn’t help but wonder why on earth she was only just seeing Remus Lupin as the perfection he is.
She should have seen it two years ago.
She felt someone tap her shoulder. Turning around, she realized it was only Lily. She grinned at Nova and leaned over, whispering, “Is it me, or have you got feelings for a certain someone with the initials of RL?”
Nova’s eyes widened and she snapped her head around quickly. She honestly had to be more discreet about her new obsession with Remus Lupin.
“You’re like a giant teddy bear,” Nova told Sirius that night in the Common Room. “You’re so cuddly.”
He chuckled. “Is that so?”
She nodded against his chest. “Gosh, you’re just like a pillow,” she mumbled. “You should become my new pillow.”
“I would,” he laughed again, “but you’d get angry with me for turning the stairs to a slide again.”
She’d forgotten about that. “About that,” Sirius said. “Why the bloody hell is Remus able to go up?”
“Lily, being Head Girl, has authorities, and she took off the spell for him only,” Nova truthfully told him. “But that’s only because he’s trustworthy and he wouldn’t go up there to shag someone or steal their knickers.”
Sirius inwardly laughed. Oh, if only she knew.
“Did you get it?!”
Remus shot Sirius a look. “I cannot believe you made me, but…”
“You got it!” he gleefully shrieked. “You are the best, Moony!”
“Shush! The girls are going to wake up if you don’t be quiet!” Remus whispered, worriedly looking around. Sirius grabbed his arm and dragged him up their room.
“This is really random,” Nova began at breakfast the next morning, “but have any of you possibly seen my knickers? They’re red.”
Remus turned crimson. “Come to think of it,” Lily said after blanking out in her thoughts, “I believe my polka dotted bra is missing as well,” she said, turning to face Nova.
Both girls’ eyes widened in realization. “Oi! Nita!” Nova called out to girl as she walked. Nita walked up to them. “Are your knickers or bras missing?”
Nita stood there for a good moment as she thought back. “Yeah,” she slowly drawled out. “This morning, I was looking for my favorite bra, and I couldn’t find it. Why? Yours are missing too?”
Lily nodded. “My bra, her knickers.”
Nita’s eyes turned to slits. “Who the hell is sick enough to steal underwear?!”
“They were my favorite knickers!” Nova whined, while poking her fork at her sausage. She blinked a few times. “Oh. It’s probably best not to have this conversation in front of you four,” she realized.
Lily looked horrorstruck as she, too, realized four boys were sitting just across them, and could hear every word they said. “Merlin!”
Nova could see Sirius had somewhat of a guilty look on his face, but she shrugged it off. It wasn’t as if he could have ever gotten their undergarments! Those stairs turned to a slide!
“I should become a lingerie model,” Nova blurted out, randomly.
Lily glanced at her as Nita sat to Nova’s other side. “Why?”
“Well, then I could get free knickers all the time. Probably better quality and nice-fitting too.” As an afterthought, she added, “And I suppose I’d get discount and all that jazz, so I could get you all you want.”
Lily smiled, satisfied. “That’s what I was looking for.”
Nova laughed loudly. “Are you using me, Miss Evans?”
“Psshh,” Lily waved her off.
“I feel discluded,” Sirius frowned.
“Sirius is really cuddly like a teddy bear,” Nova inputted.
Sirius grinned. “You know, I should make up a list of all the traits a good boyfriend should have,” Nova added on. “The teddy bear one should definitely be on it.”
“As well as dimples,” Nita added.
“I like her!” Lily grinned. Nita smiled.
“You wouldn’t think that she was anything but a real girl until this year, by looking at her right now,” James muttered to his friends, talking about Nova.
“I decided I will make that list,” Nova informed Lily, who decided to sleep there that night, in their dorm room late that night.
She looked up at her. “May I assist?”
“Of course!” Nova scoffed. “Why else would I voice this?”
She shrugged as she grabbed her quill. “So. Tell me all about you and Remus.”
Nova stared up at her. “I don’t know. He’s physically adorable.”
Lily smirked as she wrote down ‘Adorable’. “And he’s got these beautiful muscles in his arms…”
The list in question ended up looking a lot like this:
BOYFRIEND TRAITS AND QUALITIES
· Must be adorable
· Must be physically attractive
· Must, must, must, make you feel nervous around said boy
· Must own beautiful muscles in said boy’s arms
· Must look devilishly sexy in a tight white shirt
· Must look devilishly sexy in no shirt
· Must be able to withstand randomness and weirdness
· Must have pretty eyes
· Must have ‘I want to tangle my fingers in’ hair
· Must have a gorgeous smile
· Must be at least three inches and at most six inches taller (to ensure said girl may wear heels with said boy)
· Must laugh adorably
· Maybe must be able to sing (because boys who can sing are plain sexy)
· Must be smart enough to have an intelligent conversation with
· Must like you for you
· Must never think girlfriend looks hideous, no matter how dead she looks because of no sleep because of studying
· Must be satisfied with what he has and never pressure girlfriend
· Must never lie (this is iffy. It depends on the lie.)
· Must ask out girlfriend in the most adorable way ever and when there’s a ball, must ask out in double the adorableness.
· Must have dimples
· Must be super cuddly like a teddy bear
· Must be fun/funny
· Must have a serious side
· Must like pranks (though obviously not too extreme)
· He must have at least half of these traits (because no living person, no matter how perfect they are, can ever withhold all of these traits)
“Well…” Lily said. “This is perfect! This is like the guideline for all girls!”
“We should post this up on the Common Room board,” Nova said. “It’s a great guidebook for all girls.”
“Let’s go!” Lily squealed, standing up.
“One second,” Nova said, quickly dipping her quill once more, adding to the top, the words, ‘Guide to the perfect boyfriend for all girls (or at least, fourth year and above). Credit to Lily Evans and Nova Prescott.’
“Genius,” Lily winked, before running down with Nova. They quickly tacked it up on the board, straight in the middle, so all the girls would notice it.
The next morning, Nova was surprised to see more boys than girls surrounding the list. Straight in the front, of course, were none other than the Marauders. Remus saw Nova and Lily emerge and ran straight to them. “Chaos, you two’ve cause. Absolute chaos!”
Lily gave him a confused look. “How do you mean?”
“All those blokes are now talking about your list, and going about trying to meet half of them at least, either to impress Nova or you, Lily. Or any other girl. Mostly the two of you,” he sighed, sounding frustrated.
“Why is this a bad thing?” Lily asked.
“It just…is,” Remus uttered. “Where on earth did you even get some of those? ‘Must look devilishly sexy in a tight white shirt’?”
Nova turned crimson as she remembered when Remus had come down the one night in his tight white shirt. Lily smirked. “Oh, just…from things we’ve seen.”
James and Sirius, as well as Peter, Nova could see, were all siting with a notebook, writing down notes fervently.
Nova nudged Lily to show her, but her eyes were already there. “Desperate, they are.”
“Oi,” Remus whispered as they stood at the front, waiting for McGonagall to assign them seats. “Do you suppose I look alright in a tight white shirt?”
Nova cracked a grin. “Why? Trying to impress someone?”
He looked away mumbling something. “Something like that.”
Her eyes gleamed. “If it helps, you totally look devilishly sexy in a tight white shirt.”
His eyes snapped to hers, but she was already turned away and talking to Nita and Lily.
Nova turned her head slightly. “What?”
“How tall are you, Minion?” he grinned devilishly.
“Five foot six, why?”
“Nothing, Minion,” he chuckled. “Friend of mine was asking.”
She shrugged and let it go. Remus watched the short exchange.
“Enough!” McGonagall shouted. “Now, I’m pairing you up in threes, starting from the back corner. I want Hughes, Nickson, and Davies. Lawson, Pettigrew, and Snape. Thomas, Lovegood, and Nott. Next row, I want Potter, Evans, and Skeeter. Black, Prescott, and Lupin…”
After her name was called, and she’d already heard the four Marauders being called as well as Lily and Nita, Nova didn’t pay any mind. She didn’t need to, so why do it?
Nova looked from both sides of her. “Hey partners!”
They both gave an uneasy smile back.
While one looked conflicted, the other looked worried.
For once, Nova hadn’t noticed.
