Hermione Granger walked quietly into the kitchens of Hogwarts, just as she did every Tuesday during a Quidditch match. She continued her basic routine: grab some pumpkin juice, get some toast and relax until reality started again and she would have to face her demons.

On the outside of the castle, far near the Forbidden Forest; a young, strong blonde headed boy was zooming around on his broomstick. The Golden Snitch flew straight past, he only saw a shimmer from the corner of his eye. He chased after it, the Hufflepuff seeker was still searching around, and oblivious to the fact it was closer to him than he thought.

It was a sudden, quick movement when the final announcement came through. “Draco Malfoy’s caught the snitch! Slytherin wins!” The students covered with green and silver scarfs erupted in cheers, the first years shouting Draco’s name at the top of their lungs. Draco didn’t mind the attention, but he didn’t need it. He thanked the Hufflepuff team with a row of handshakes and left the fields with a small smile on his lips.

Draco entered the castle slowly, the sweat and stench still glued to his skin, his first stop: the kitchens. He was starved, and wanted to eat in peace before showering off. He walked down a small corridor before taking a sharp left, saying the password silently in his head repas before entering and hearing the gasp of a female inside.

He entered, slowly, his face turning from curiousness to pure disgust. He stalked forward, a snarl came from his mouth as he took a green apple, placed it on his lips and took a large bite, as delicately as possible. He chewed quietly, staring at Hermione from across the room. She raised her head from her place. She watched him like a hawk. She had always wondered what it would be like to be a Malfoy. What it would be like to be pure-blooded, to have everyone fall on their knees to give you what you want, to have the most money in the world and not knowing what to do with it, just once, Hermione wanted to know what it’s like to be like him, what it was like to have the life he does. Little did she know she already had it, she just needed to dig deeper.

Draco glared at her, “What are you staring at mudblood?”  He spat the words out, a piece of his hair stuck to his forehead; his muscular body leaned over a marble bench.  Hermione growled, “Shut it ferret.” Draco smirked, and moved closer to her, she had a glass of pumpkin juice on the table, a plate with crusts from bread still on it and a jar of vegemite with a small butter knife beside it. Draco slumped into the chair across from her. “What are you going to do about it, huh? You’ve got nothing here anymore, no friends, no family, nobody. You’re better off dead and you know it. So leave Granger, save yourself the self-pity of your failed blood status and do everyone a favour, rid yourself from the wizarding world and don’t come back.” His words irritated her greatly; she had never felt so much hate for one person.

Hermione stood, went over to the bench, opened the second drawer, moved a few pieces of cutlery around and pulled out a large steak knife. “You know what Malfoy? Maybe you’re right, I should do you a favour and take my status out before we catch up to you, is that it? Maybe I’ll throw myself off the top of the castle; will that make you feel better? Will it?!” She screamed, and placed the knife to her left palm and sliced; she showed him the hand, the blood dripping, making trails down her arms. “See this Malfoy? My blood is the same colour as yours. I bleed, just the same as you do. There is no difference here! Muggleborn or not, you don’t have the right to treat me like this! How do you feel now Malfoy, my tainted blood is splattered all over the floor, can you even tell the difference? It’s the same colour, same smell, same everything! Why are you always doing this! I haven’t said anything to you Malfoy, and yet you’ve put me through hell! How does it feel for you then, huh? You have everything you could ever want, you could have anyone, you have it all Malfoy, but the real problem for you is, it means nothing. Nothing, you hear me? Yes, you may have absolutely everything, but I’ve heard a little saying, I think it applies to you. With nothing you’re rich*, yeah that’s you. I hate you, I despise you. You can got to Hell Malfoy, it's where you belong.” Hermione felt very faint, especially after her giant rant. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and before she knew it, she collapsed to the ground. Draco ran to her side, lifted her up in his arms, despite his disgust, and ran from the room, his direction? The Hospital Wing.

Hermione awoke from the whispers occurring around her, she groaned before lifting her heavy eyelids. Madam Pomfrey stood before her, Draco Malfoy on the other side. She watched him; she could see the blood smeared on his arms. “See that Malfoy?” She said groggily, “You’ve got my dirty blood on your skin; you’re not so pure now, are you?” Draco sighed and left the room in a hurry.

If only she knew how pure she really was.
