The alarm on my wand woke me up early that next morning so I could meet Scorpius in the library to work on our project. I sat on my bed for a couple of minutes, staring at the dust floating in the morning sun. I wish I didn't have to meet Scorpius so early. I wish he wasn't such an arse-hole. And I wish he and Dom didn't fancy eachother. They were all over eachother at dinner last night...
"Scorp, I was at school all day. I probably look like crap!"
"you could never..."
*giggles giggles giggles*
Meanwhile, I was stuck admiring Scorpius across the table: I was sitting between James and Fred who kept throwing food at eachother and yelling, "Ten points if you get it in Rosie's hair!"
I pulled my covers over my head trying to forget about the horrific scenes of last night's dinner...
"Rose, wake up! We have class in like, fifeteen minutes!"
"Shit!" I hop out of my bad as fast as I could and jumped in the shower.
I can't believe I stood up Malfoy! He's really gonna think I'm a bitch now. I know he's a jerk but he doesn't deserve to be forgotten. I didn't even remember falling asleep!
After I finished getting ready, I walked to Care of Magical Creatures with Dom, Caroline, and my fourth roomate: Victoria Wood. Unfortunately, we had it with the Slytherins so I had to apologize to Malfoy. We get to Hagrid's hut and I notice that Malfoy has already arrived.
"I'm so sorry! I overslept!"
"Yeah, right. I know you may not think it, but this project is important to me also and I would appreciate you showing up to study dates that you made!" he protests.
We turn our attention to Hagrid who is presents his hippogriff named Witherwings. I can feel Dom squirming next to me and Malfoy puts an arm around her.
Really? The girl is nearing seventeen, she needs to get over something that is half bird.
"Today we are revisiting our lesson on hippogriffs. Does anyone want to take a ride on ole Witherwings here?" Hagrid asks us excitedly. Everyone else looks unamused and bored so I raise my hand. I've ridden him before and I could go for a little bit of fun, right?
"Alright Rosie! He's all yours!"
I approach Buckbeak (Uncle Harry told me his story when I was a first year) and bow. He returns the bow and I begin the proccess of hopping onto his back. I am a little nervous but mostly from excitement. Hagrid slaps his bum and he begins to run. I hold on tight as we begin to fly off the ground. It is an amazing feeling to be risen up and to watch everything below you become smaller and smaller. It was like riding on a broom but more exciting because you're on a living creature. I feel the wind blowing my hair back and making my robes fly behind me like flags. Buckbeak decides to descend toward the lake and I get that feeling in my stomach like it's dropping. I let out a little 'ah!' and laugh. We do a couple laps around the castle and Hagrid calls Buckbeak to come back to the hut.
"Well done! Well done! Just like yer uncle!"
Everyone claps but Scorpius just sits there with his arms crossed across his chest. I give him a smirk, turn red, and hop back to my spot. He's cute. I can't believe he actually believes that I stood him up.
I stomp my way towards the great hall with James after an incredibly frustrating practice.
Yeah, James is the quidditch captain and the reason we had such a bad practice is because Slytherin crashed it. And the reason I was so distant is because I was wrapped up in watching Scorpius on the sidelines. Why was Slytherin on the sidelines may you ask? Because they're scum. And because Al is so thick that he thought he scheduled the pitch for today instead of tomorrow.
We arrive at the great hall and James is taken away by Al criticizing him about the team. I, on the other hand, am grabbed by the hand by none other than Scorpius.
"Hey, can we talk?" he asks.
We walk out onto an empty staircase.
"So since you ditched me this morning I was thinking-" he started.
"Hey," I put a hand up. "I did not ditch you; I overslept. There's a difference."
"Okay. Well since you overslept and we didn't get to start our project, I was wondering if maybe we could meet up tonight? If you have time..."
"Yeah, that would be okay. I'll meet you in the library at eight?"
"Sounds great," he finishes.
I have to admit, I'm suprised that he's taking this project so seriously. Hm, I'm sort of impressed.
I return to the Gryffindor table and take my seat next to Dom and Caroline.
Everyone around us is talking animatedly and it is quite loud.
"Hey," Caroline says to me in a whisper. "What's wrong with your cousin?"
I turn my head to look at the beautiful scene that is my family. Fred has food spraying from his mouth, Molly has her cat with her, and I look over the the Ravenclaw table to find Louis asleep. Who the hell could she be talking about?
"Fred? Eh, I really don't know. He has so much potential, I just don't know where he went wrong. I mean, Roxy turned out alright, but..."
"Rose, I meant James. He looks really upset."
"Oh, we had a really bad quidditch practice. You know James."
"Oh," she sighs.
"Why do you care?" I ask curiously.
"Oh, no reason." She looks down and turns red. Weird.
I wait around in the common room, finishing up homework and playing exploding snap with Lily and Hugo. Once eight o'clock comes along, I climb out of the portrait hole and head towards the library. On my way, I pass an empty corridor when I hear voices. Naturally, I stop to listen.
"I don't think he'll really care, do you?"
"Caroline, he's completely obsessed with you. I can' belive you haven't noticed by now."
Caroline!? With another guy besides Al?! I swore she liked him...
"Alright James but we also have to keep it a secret from my brother, too. You know he'd kill you if he found out." Stop. No. This isn't happening. Caroline and James? How did I not see this?! Al is going to be devistated and if Caroline's brother ever finds out, James would have his man parts removed with a knife.
Caroline has three brothers. Will, who graduated from Hogwarts two years ago and is now in Healer training, Eli, who is a seventh year Gryffindor and best friends with James, and Ethan who's a fourth year Ravenclaw. He's best friends with Lily and Hugo. It's kind of cute. All three King brothers are very protective of their sister. Even ickle Ethan. Eli's quite like James, though. Always messing around, hitting on girls, and living in detention. But if he ever found out that James was snogging his little sister, I don't think the sun would come up the next day.
"Bullocks!" I whisper when I see the time.
After eavesdropping on that dramatic conversation, I realize that I'm late and I start to run to the library. I see Scorpius sitting at a table in the corner.
"Hey, sorry I'm late." I greet.
"Eh, it's okay. I guess I should be used to it. Shall we get started? I have something put together already."
"Oh, awesome. It looks good." I decide to be nice to him. He usually tries to be somewhat civil towards me so I guess I should return the gesture. I mean, we do have to work on this project together, and how would he ever like me if I'm mean?
We work on our project for a little while and talk for the rest of the time. I'm actually having a good time. To my suprise, he's really easy to talk to. We're being really open and he actually tells me he likes someone. I didn't mention anything about my feelings for him but I was definitely thinking it.
"So why were you late?" He asks.
"Oh, it's nothing. I just got caught up with something," I say trying to avoid the truth. I'm not a very good secret keeper.
"What? You can tell me...I'm sure it's not that big of a deal."
"Oh, I just caught Caroline with some guy in a corridor..." Whoops. Shut it, Rose.
"What? She's dating someone? Al better not find out," he concludes. I need to start lying...like, now.
"I don't think she's seeing anyone. Just messing around, you know her," yeah, make her sound like a slag, Rose, that's great. "It's not a big deal."
"Oh. So listen, there's a Hogsmeade weekend this weekend and I was wondering if you wanted to come with me? You know, for studying. We could go to the Three Broomsticks or something. Just to get out of this library..."
My heart's racing. Does he want to go to Hogsmeade with me? Or does he want to go and drag me along for some studying? Whatever, I'll go. For education.
"Yeah, I'll go. That sounds fun. I'm sick of looking at all of these books." Wow, I never thought I'd say that.
"Great, see you then." He leaves and I feel like I'm on top of the world. Then I remember...
He likes Dom.
