Why is it that Ron decides to be a pompous arse and ignores me, fights with me, or suffocates me? His feelings toward me are bipolar ever since the war… It’s just… I mean… I’m his girlfriend for Merlin’s sake! Hermione thought.
Hermione lay in bed, fuming about Ron and his nerve. Her feelings towards Ronald have changed drastically in the past year. Before now, she used to think he was a little daft, sure, but also funny, witty, and sweet. She laughed out loud. What ever feelings she had felt for him before were clearly gone now. She’s decided to end it with him now, rather than keeping up the pretence that she still loved him.
As Hermione entered the kitchen of The Burrow, just in time to see Ron wolfing down large mouthfuls of toast, smeared generously with peanut butter and jam, Hermione shuddered delicately and tried hard to keep the disgust off my face. “Ronald. RONALD.” she called. “I need to speak to you.” she led the way from the kitchen to the broom cupboard.
Ron grinned, (mouth still full) clearly thinking Hermione was about to apologize. She took a deep breath and started. “Ron. I’ve thought about this for quite a while now, and I don’t think we should be seeing each other. I may have had feelings for you in the past, but somehow, since the war ended, these feelings have kind of… disappeared. Oh come on Ron, you know we can’t keep seeing each other, we argue almost every night!” Ron’s grin slid off his face like stinksap, only to be replaced by a mingled look of shock, defiance and anger.
“WHAT?! HERMIONE, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR BLOODY MIND? YOU BELONG WITH ME AND YOU KNOW IT. STOP DENYING THAT YOU LOVE ME, BECAUSE I KNOW YOU DO. WE AREN’T BREAKING UP HERMIONE, JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN ME, DOESN’T MEAN IT’S TRUE.” Ron took a deep breath and continued shouting at her. “BUT FINE, IF IT’S WHAT YOU WANT, ALRIGHT, GO ON, I DON’T CARE, AT LEAST I’LL HAVE LAVENDER TO KEEP ME COMPANY. BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED, SOME OTHER GIRLS HAVE TAKEN AN INTEREST IN ME TOO! BUT I’LL GIVE YOU A SECOND CHANCE HERMIONE, AND I’LL FORGET THIS CONVERSATION EVEN HAPPENED.” With that, Ron made to stroll out of the broom closet, but Hermione turned him around and slapped him full across the face, tears streaming down her face.
“HOW DARE YOU! AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’LL STILL HAVE LAVENDER? OR HAVE YOU BEEN CHEATING ON ME BEHIND MY BACK?” She cried haughtily. “BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER NOW; I’M LEAVING, SO I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU’VE DONE! BUT I MUST HAVE BEEN OUT OF MY MIND TO EVEN GO OUT WITH YOU, YOU DISGUSTING FOUL FLOBBERWORM!” Hermione screamed. She spun on her heel and stormed up to her and Ron’s room, despite Ron’s desperate apologies and pleads for her not to leave.
I have had enough; I couldn’t stay here anymore and face Ron and his sloppy kisses, sheepish expressions, or stupid remarks. I have to leave. I can’t go home, though; I can’t burden my parents any further. Plus, they’re still angry with me for wiping their memories and sending them to Australia. Hermione thought and slumped down on her bed, crying into her pillow.
“’Mione?” Harry knocked on her door cautiously, not really wanting to be yelled at. She sniffled and trudged to open the door. He gave her a soft smile and pulled her into a comforting hug. He made soothing sounds as Hermione started to sob violently into his chest, all of her pent up frustrations finally surfacing. “What happened?” he asked. “I finally decided to end it with Ron; but he started yelling at me and let it slip that he’d been sleeping with Lavender behind my back.” She choked. His eyes widened and filled with anger. “Hermione, you’re my best friend, but he is too. I don’t know what to say besides that he’s stupid sometimes… okay, most of the time. I’m angry with his decisions and how he’s been acting. I know that he may be having a bit of a difficult time since the war, we all are, but he lost Fred… They all lost Fred. Hopefully he’ll realize what good he’s given up for a- err… shag buddy- and understand that he’ll probably never get you back.” Hermione slightly smiled at her friend. She really admired Harry; he had all of his own personal problems, yet he still managed to take care of everyone else. She envied his ability to do so.
Harry smiled back at her and she pulled him in for a hug again. “Where are you going to stay?” he asked her. “I honestly don’t know. I guess I could book a room at The Leaky Cauldron…” she said hesitantly. She found the rooms there uncomfortable and small. Harry chuckled at her, “Absolutely not! You can stay with Ginny and I.” Before she could protest, he’d waved all of her belongings into some trunks with his wand. “Harry-…” “Lalalala I can’t hear you!” He sang as he ran out of the room and bolted down the stairs with her belongings following close behind. She giggled lightly and sniffled, wiping the excess makeup from under her eyes.
Ron’s pleads and an apparation later, Hermione was finally settled into the spare room of Harry and Ginny’s home.
Hermione sighed with great relief, very happy that she’d broken up with Ron. Crookshanks also seemed more relaxed in this environment. Suddenly, a brown barn owl tapped on her window. She let the owl in and gave it a treat, letting it rest for the time being. She untied a letter from its leg and patted it on the head. She furrowed her eyebrows at the familiar Hogwarts seal enclosing the folded parchment. She nervously opened it and read:
Dear Miss Granger,
Due to the disruptions of last years courses, HogwartsSchool of Witchcraft and Wizardry has invited you to return to redo your seventh year. Upon accepting, if it is what you choose to do, it is my duty to inform and congratulate you on becoming Head Girl this year. As you realise already, this prestigious spot in our school requires all the hard work and determination that I know you posses, but also a great deal of social and leadership skills. You and our Head Boy will be meeting with me once a month and with the prefects every two weeks. These meetings will be used to discuss the many events that will be coming up (a list of which I shall give you when we meet), and anything that the prefects feel need going over.
As you know already from your invitation to attend the school this year, every year will be re-taking the year that was disrupted last year. This means that we will have a double amount of students taking their first year. After the welcoming feast I would ask all seventh years that are returning to meet with me at the head table where I will explain the arrangements that have been made to accommodate you. I will also meet with you and the Head Boy before the feast begins so that you are aquatinted with each other and know what to expect.
Headmistress Minerva McGonagall
She squealed with delight as she tipped the envelope over, sending a shiny ‘Head Girl’ badge plopping into her lap. Hermione nearly fell off of the bed she was sitting on because of her growing excitement as she placed the pin on her Gryffindor red jumper. She clutched her letter and bolted down the stairs to show Harry and Ginny.
(A/N): I know it's a low start, but it will get better, I promise! This is my first fan fiction! Review and Comment! <3
