Hey guys, it's Prongs. I'm finally back. Unfortunately, my computer has been crashed for a while and all the fictions I was wroking on were on there, so I will only be able to put out short stuff like this until my dad gets the infor off. But anyway.

You can thank my iPod for this one. This song came on and I decided it needed and fic. So voila. Enjoy.

Beauty queen of only eighteen she
Had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her she
Always belonged to someone else

He could see that Lily didn’t like how she was. He could see her gazing into windows with a distasteful expression, plucking at her hair, her clothes. He wanted to walk up behind her and wrap his arms around her waist so bad at those moments. He wanted to prop his chin on her shoulder. He wanted to help her.

He wanted to tell her she was beautiful.

He had always wanted to tell her she was beautiful.

He watched Lily. She didn’t know it of course, but he watched. He saw her in the Library, tutoring first years and scribbling furiously at already over-long essays. He saw her in the dining hall with her friends, laughing and talking. And he saw her with him. That slimy haired Slytherin who would always have her attention before he would. After all, those two were best friends.

Silly James, Severus got there first.

I drove for miles and miles and
Wound up at your door
I’ve had you so many times but
Somehow I want more

He figured out where she lived. And no, he wasn’t a stalker. He overheard her telling Mary before break where it was so she could come over for Easter break. He was going to apparate over, but thought that it might startle her parents. Anyway, he wanted to impress her with his Muggle knowledge.

So he got in his parents' car and drove miles and miles through towns and cities and British countryside and showed up at her door at midnight. He just sat in the car and stared at the house. He could tell which room was hers, just by looking. It would be the one at the top right, with the sunny yellow curtains.

She always had liked bright colors.

He had seen her so many times at school, talked to her and flirted with her and loved her from afar. But he still got an undeniable fluttery feeling in his stomach every time it happened. Just to walk up and say hello gave him a rush, even when she turned around with hate in her eyes.

Even when she didn’t love him.

Even when she didn’t care.

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

He drove over again and again. Eventually, he gathered enough of his Gryffindor courage to knock on the door.

She answered.

He didn’t even get to say hello before she slammed the door.

Seeing her face was enough.

He came almost every day. She stopped answering the door. He came in sun and wind and pouring rain. He stood on her corner and threw pebbles at her bedroom window, until she charmed them to bounce back at him.

Once, when she didn’t know he was there, he saw her smile down from her window at her sister and her sister’s boyfriend lounging on the lawn. It was the saddest, most broken smile he had ever seen. And right then and there, he resolved to fix her smile. To make her happy with somebody.

Even if that somebody wasn’t him.

Even if it was Severus.

Even if that meant he had to give her up completely.

Tap on my window
Knock on my door I
Want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
Doesn’t matter anymore

He loved living just a few doors down from Lily, especially when she sneaked out at  night and tapped on his bedroom window because she needed to talk. He always listened, he always nodded and comforted, even when she was talking about that Potter boy.

She was always welcome at his house, at least to him. He knew her knock by heart and was never prepared for that breathless feeling that hit him when he opened the door.

“You’re so beautiful,” he said once. She just laughed. “You are,” he insisted. She shook her head.

“You’re the beautiful one Severus, inside and out,” she had replied. He blushed and shook his head, mumbling something unintelligibly. He wasn’t beautiful. Not outside. Not inside.

Not anywhere.

Not next to Lily.

It’s not always rainbows and butterflies
It’s compromise
It moves us along
My heart is full and my door’s always open
You come anytime you want

That word. That word he’d said. That he’d spat out, a curse. The one word he wished he could claw back down his throat, keep it locked up forever and a day.

Mudblood.

He saw the warmth leave her eyes. They had had fights before, and they had always made up later.

They would make up later this time, right?

Right?

He ran after her. “Lily...” She ignored him, she wouldn’t speak to him. “I love you Lily. I always will. You’re still always welcome at my house and in my heart.”

Silly Severus, don’t you know it’s already too late?

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

He came in the summer too. Sometimes he saw Potter there, but often he could time it so he was alone. He stood at the corner of her house in the pouring rain and called up to her bedroom window. He begged her to come down, to let him come up. Anything, anything at all.

There was nothing.

He came again. And again. And again.

Nothing.

He saw her, looked at her when she didn’t know he was there. She almost never smiled. She very rarely laughed. Even when she did, there was no real happiness. He was horrified. He had broken her smile. He had taken it and smashed it into a million pieces.

He wanted her to be happy. He wanted her to smile with happiness again.

Even if it wasn’t at him.

Even if it was a Potter.

Even if it broke his heart.

I know where you hide
Alone in your car

He tapped on her car window. He knew she was there, knew she went there when she had nowhere else to go and no one to run to.

She rolled the window down a crack. She was finally going to talk to him.

“Go away Severus.”

Know all of the things
That make you who you are

He finally did it. He walked up behind her when she was frowning at herself in the mirror in their dorm and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"You're beautiful you know."

She smiled. She finally smiled at him. “Thanks James.”

I know that goodbye
Means nothing at all

“Goodbye Severus.” She rolled the window back up and started backing the car up. She didn’t mean it.

She couldn’t leave him.

He couldn’t let her.

But here she was. Leaving.

He was alone again.

Comes back and makes me catch her every time she

James smiled, hand in hand with Lily in Hogsmeade. She finally went with him. She finally cared.

Falls

They ran into each other. Both of them had been staring at her, neither paying attention to anyone else.

Both reached out to catch her as she stumbled.

They looked at each other.

She stepped to the side.

Tap on my window

“Snape.”

Knock on my door I

“Potter.”

Want to make you feel beautiful

He took a deep breath. This was going to hurt. He was going to rip his heart out of his chest and leave it on the ground.

“Take care of her Potter.”

He gave that little half smile that made the girls swoon. “I always do."

I always will.

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain

Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while

Both turned and walked in opposite directions. James had Lily. Severus had what was left of his heart. James didn’t look back, but Severus did. He saw Lily with her arm around James’s waist and her head on his shoulder. And he allowed himself one tiny smile.

Lily’s smile was just as brilliant as it used to be.

He turned and disappeared into the darkness.

And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

So, what did you think? Leave a comment, make my day a little better. :D Love you all, stay awesome!
