Draco’s POV

Arriving at Hogwarts went as usual with the start of year speech, the sorting of the first years and of course the feast. Once the feast was over Hermione and I were called up to the front so that the school could see who their new head boy and girl were during which I was glared at by almost everyone including some of the teachers.

Everyone was dismissed and McGonagall led the way to our new dorm. The thought of living in such close proximity to Hermione both excited and scared me. On the plus side I could spend more time with her but if she hates me as much as I think she does she could easily get revenge for every mean thing I’ve ever said to her. With her pristine reputation she’d probably get away with it too.

I drifted back to reality to see both Hermione and McGonagall staring at me expectantly.

“Pardon?” I said hoping it would make sense.

“Any suggestions for a password?” repeated Hermione.

Confused, I looked around to realise that I had no idea where we were. Whilst turning to look back at Hermione I noticed a portrait of a young woman who looked surprisingly like Hermione except her hair was blonde and she had blue-grey eyes instead of Hermione’s beautiful chocolate-brown eyes that you could easily lose yourself in.

Once again I snapped to reality to see McGonagall was gone and Hermione had gone into the common room and settled into a sofa with a book.

“Are you going in or what?”

I jumped then looked around in search of the source of the voice.

I turned to see the portrait woman looking at me.

“If you don’t hurry up I’ll shut the door and let you stay out here until Hermione let’s you in as I guess you didn’t hear the password.”

“Sorry.” I mumbled then quickly made my way into the common room.

Hermione’s POV

Something is wrong with that boy; he spends more time in that little bubble of his than in reality. After he started day-dreaming the second time McGonagall rolled her eyes (I know, I’m just as shocked as you are!) and before walking off said

“Just leave the door open for him; I’ve got more important things to do than wait for Mr Malfoy.”

I sighed and walked up to the portrait.

“Ok as he’s a bit out of it at the moment I’ll chooses the password. Um...Honesty. If I decide to lock him out he’ll never guess that as I’m pretty sure it’s not in his vocabulary.”

I shot Malfoy a quick glare.

“I know right” giggled the portrait.

I didn’t expect that reply so it made me giggle as well. I like this lady.

“By the way my name’s Hermione.”

“Nice to meet you Hermione, my name is Ella. I have another portrait frame inside if you ever want to chat. That reminds me; I’m supposed to let you in.”

“Thanks Ella.”

I started to walk in but paused to look at Malfoy.

“Don’t worry about him, I’ll wait here for him; you go explore. Ooh! Make sure you check out the room on the right; you’ll love it!”

I laughed and walked in, heading straight for the room on the right, not bothering to look at my surroundings. When I arrived I stood shocked. Ella was right; I love this room! I was standing in our very own library! I began to explore and spotted that not only did they have magical books but muggle books too; I was in heaven! I grabbed the nearest book and headed into the common room this time taking in my surroundings. It was bigger than the Gryffindor common room and was decorated predominantly in green and gold. Despite its size it still managed to look cosy with two sofas and two arm chairs taken up a lot of space next to the fireplace. To the left was another door but this time it had a passageway behind it. Being the curious person that I am I followed it and discovered the kitchens. This is so cool! As I didn’t actually want anything from the kitchens I snuck away before I could be spotted by a house-elf.

When I returned I passed the portrait door. Malfoy was still in his own little world so I curled up with the book I’d picked up earlier on a sofa where I could keep an eye on him. Something definitely isn’t right with that boy. Even Luna doesn’t day-dream for that long. Oh well, it’s not my problem.

Draco’s POV

Had I taken the time to study my surroundings I would have noticed how amazing the room was but as per usual my eyes were drawn to Hermione. Upon closer inspection I realised she was asleep. How long was I day-dreaming for?! Despite the urge to stay and watch her sleep (she looked so angelic) I put her book on the table and summoned and blanket for her before leaving in search of my room. I came across two spiral staircases one labelled “HG” and the other “HB”. I climbed the second staircase and came to my room which was decorated in green, black and silver. Too tired to get changed I slipped straight into bed fully clothed and drifted off to sleep.
