I always believed in wishing on a star. Who knows what could happen if someone believed in something so much, it might come true, if I wished I may and i wished I might have that wish I wished that night. I guess those child like beliefs are not thought of anymore, the wish doesn't come true and we sit back in bed and laugh at ourselves for being so stupid to think that something good might happen, that destiny would give us a break and answer our prayers. No one looks up at the stars anymore to make a wish, in order to get what we want, we must do it ourselves.. But sometimes I still believe in that star, believe that my wish would come true and its magic will make it happen.
The heel of shoes made a clanking sound on the cobble stone steps of Kings Cross Station. A girl with dark brown hair, long and curled, a pale complexion and striking green eyes walked past each platform, heading in the direction of platform nine and ten. She wore a black trench coat and a bright red beret, as she walked she nuzzled her neck into her scarf, a light splash of raindrops falling from her head. Stylish, this girl was given attention, eyes looked at her for a few moments as she walked past them, to her however, she was just Arianna.
“I’ve always like trains to take me from one place to another. The man with a bad cold that can’t stop sneezing could sit next to you, or the old lady who just wants to hear about your day won’t stop talking. It might be so over packed you can’t sit down or so empty you don’t know where to sit. The best part of taking a train is looking at the flickering world outside the window and for an instant you feel like you’re travelling time, you’re so still yet so fast all in one train ride.
This is the first time I am taking this train, it’s a rather new adventure for me, filled with students, and we are all heading to one place. Hogwarts. And on this train ride is where the story begins. “
I put my pen in the binder of my new diary and packed it away in my hand bag. I managed to get here rather early and sit in an empty compartment for I knew if I were late, I would be sitting out in the corridor. Being magical, it’s hard to find a decent school that is closer to my new home in Britain, My old school, Beauxbatons didn't suit me and I need a change of scenery and people. A fresh start. Mother didn't approve, too many mudbloods at Hogwarts, but after spending the entire holidays begging, she gave in.
“You will get into Slytherin, many of my friends have children in that house, it’s the most decent” Mother always liked the rich and pure better. Although she is not one of “His” supporters, not in the inner circle so to speak, however, she does believe in what “The Dark Lord” stands for and surrounds herself with the “right” kind of witches and wizards. She has force fed me with that crap since the day I was born and I have blocked it out every time.
I heard a boom and some yells before laughing appeared at my door. It opened, which woke me from my day dream and a boy’s head poked through the door way. I heard laughter from outside again, and he smiled slightly looking back for a few moments then back to me.
“Mind if we sit here?” I and smiled and nodded and he ushered his friends to come inside.
“That was a good one Prongs, almost as good as my own pranks if I do say so myself” with a smirk, the boy with perfect black hair and a chiseled jaw, spoke to the other with a messy hairdo that he couldn't stop touching, his round glasses flicked from the sunlight shining through the window.
“Sirius my mate, I could out-prank you any day” and gave them a heart stopping smile.
I couldn't help but let a “pfft” escape my lips which brought their eyes to my attention.
As a child, I had mastered the art of mischief making, it’s one of my many talents and if I needed to write a resume, it would be first on my list. At my old school, the only way to teach my parents a lesson was to get myself into so much trouble, I would serve detention nearly every week and the students knew never to cross me, however this reputation also made me quite the outcast.
“Sorry I didn't know you were included in this conversation” the black haired boy said with a raised eyebrow. They were more perfect than mine… it was a bit intimidating.
“Well, whenever pranks are involved, I’m always included” I said so in a darkish tone but with a smile on my face.
This seemed to intrigue them, and the third boy who asked to sit in my compartment, who had a tired face, sandy hair but good looking none the less asked “You’re not from around here, are you”
“I transferred this year, ready to spread my wings, become a man, show the world, and all that jazz” They shared a questioning look, and looked back at me.
“Well, what’s your name?” the boy with glasses asked.
“What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?” I responded, I like a good build up.
I don’t think they knew what that was.. “Insert a forehead slap here”
“Sounds kinky” the black haired boy wiggled his eyebrows; I became worried for his sanity. I rolled my eyes of course.
“Its Arianna, Arianna Cortez” I said it in my James Bond accent. God I’m awesome.
They looked at each other with shocked expressions, like I just told them that Merlin comes to my parties and gives everyone free candy.. (He doesn't of course, that would be kind of on the verge of pedophilia...)
The boy with the glasses turned to me “You’re the trouble maker from Beauxbatons, everyone knows you or well what you have done so to speak” He gave me a quick smile with an approving nod.
“Well well well, looks like we have Arianna in our midst, Hogwarts is in for it this year” The black haired boy said smiling
“I didn't realize I was known around here, I knew I should have charmed my face with a fake mustache...” I said sarcastically,
“Honestly I’m not that much of a big deal, just some newbie on a train”
"Hey that reminds me, how did you make that dragon appear in the third year dorms? I've always wondered” The boy with the sandy blonde hair asked questioningly.
"You heard about that?” I asked with a chuckle. They boys nodded, waiting for an explanation.
“Oh they said it wasn't real, I’m just good with my spells” I gave them a wink “But between you and me, I know a few people in the dragon training business, it comes in handy”
This remark created a surprised look within the boys eyes, glittering with new questions and anticipation for what was to come this year.
“I’m James Potter and this is Sirius Black” the boy with glasses pointed to the dark haired boy, who kissed my hand. His grey eyes bore into my green ones, I could tell this one was a lady killer, luckily, I don’t fall so easily.
Those eyes however were familiar to me.
“Charmed” I said bluntly, trying to show that I wasn't interested. He caught on and sank back in his chair a little, with a dark expression on his face… ooo… so scary…
“I’m Remus Lupin, I’m a prefect so I guess I’ll be showing you around” he paused, “That’s if you get into Gryffindor of course” This was my turn to question them.
“My mother only told me about the Slytherin house, which she has decided that I will get into, as it suits my blood status. So what’s Gryffindor like?” I tried to put as much disdain when talking about my mother as possible, so they would know I am not a pureblood freak, luckily they understood.
Sirius eyed me suspiciously.
“Well for starters, we are in it, so obviously it’s the best house” James stated charismatically, ‘Plus our Quidditch team wins every year”
Remus on the other hand took a more historical view “It is said to be the house known for traits such as courage and loyalty” with a playful smile he added “And red’s the best colour” pointing to his red and gold scarf.
“And if you’re pureblood, your family will disown you” Sirius said directly, his eyes clouded, like a storm began inside his head. “So I suggest you stick to Slytherin if you don’t want your parents to get mad”
He was challenging me, I could see it in his smirk. I always rise to a challenge.
I pondered for a second, and then spoke.
“Courage and loyalty, Hmmm I quite like the sounds of that” I raised my eyebrows in delight, I looked directly at Sirius “And as for being disowned, I rather hope I do. I never do what I’m told” I took off my coat, the adrenaline of a future prank rising in my chest.
“You will be seeing more of me it seems, now I’m off for a while, don’t come looking, for you won’t find me” and with that I left the compartment, leaving them to spread the word, that Arianna Cortez meant business. Hogwarts, you won’t know what’s coming.
