Background:   Font color:

While the rest of Peters friends had stayed at the Potters for Christmas Peter had gone home after the McKinnon funeral. He had a lot to do over Christmas holidays, including a Christmas ball that very night at Malfoy Manor.

"Hello Pettigrew." Snape walked up to Peter as he stood near the bar.

"Snape." Peter nodded.

"I see the Notts haven't shown yet." Snape said noticing Peter was standing alone.

"They have Christmas dinner with their grandparents before the ball every year." Peter informed him.

"Yes well, when they do arrive be sure to say your hello to Andrea quickly," Peter gave Snape a questioning look," Theo will tell you more.

Peter watched Snape walk away and couldn't help but wonder what he had been talking about. Somehow Snape had wormed his way into the in crowd of pureblood families even though his father was a muggle. Snape was Malfoys right hand man though, everyone knew but no one commented on it. It just was.

Peters parents were upset when he had been sorted into Gryffindor but had been pleased to see him continuing to stay in the pureblood world, especially with Andrea. Now he thought that he might see an opportunity to get in with the inner Slytherin crowd to please his parents.

An hour and a half later when the Nott family arrived Peter made a bee line for Andrea.

"You look amazing." he noted looking down at her emerald empire waisted strapless gown.

"Thank you Peter." she blushed and he was pleased with himself.

"Come with me Pettigrew." Theodore Nott, Andrea's older brother, put his hand solidly on Peters shoulder.

"Later." Peter promised kissing Andrea's hand and leeaving with Nott.

Peter followed Nott out of the ballroom and down a long hallway with dark wooden floors and potraits of Malfoys past. They went into a room in the very back of the hallway, the room was large with twelve seat dinning table in the middle. There was an ornate fireplace at one end and art on all four walls.

"Welcome boys ... and Bellatrix, we have a new fellow among us." Malfoy began and everyone looked at Peter who had just been closing the door.

"What does he know?" Malfoy looked to Nott.

"Nothing." Nott said gruffly sitting down in a seat off into the middle of the table.

"Excellent, Peter sit down next to Rosier and we shall begin." Malfoy said and everyone in the room sat down in what appeared to be assigned seats with Malfoy at the head.

"This is a meeting called by the Dark Lord himself, he would llike to welcome Peter Pettigrew into our ranks if Pettigrew so chooses." Malfoy looked into Peters eyes and Peter couldnt help but shift uncomfortably in his chair.

"Join ranks?" Peter squeaked.

"Yes, we are fighting a war here Pettigrew. Its about the purebloods of the magical world taking their rightful place in the magical community. Are you with us Pettigrew?" Malfoy asked.

"Of course." Peter said without a second thought, this is what his parents wanted.

"Excellent, Pettigrew will need to be inducted ... Nott make sure his task is proper," Nott nodded and gave Peter a menacing look, "  thats all for tonight, back to the ball."

"See you back at Hogwarts Pettigrew." Nott said before walking out of the room and leaving Peter alone.

He knew he couldn't tell any of his Gryffindor friends about any of this. He was starting to understand that he couldn't have both lives, but he didnt know what to choose anymore.
