Chapter 19: Someone Like You

Hello Readers (: Welcome back after quite a bit of time- hope you enjoy this one. If you tear up easily, sit with a box of tissues please ;)

Have fun reading xx

"Do NOT be ridiculous, Malfoy!" Hermione exclaimed, watching him pull on a grey sweater. "Narcissa said you shouldn't!"

"But I am," Draco responded calmly, sitting on the bed and pulling on his shoes. "Get ready."

"If you think I'm going to come to meet Lucius Malfoy, you're highly mistaken!" She said, throwing her arms in the end. Something brushed against her leg and she lifted Magic up. "Hey, hun."

"Hey". Draco smirked.

"Not you!" She snapped, turning from the puppy to him. "Why do you want to meet him, anyway?!"

"You're his daughter in law! And we're going to, you know, have our second child! It's his grandchild no matter what he believes!" He said, tying his shoelaces.

"So what? He's practically disowned us! He never accepted me before so what makes you think he will now?" She asked, exasperated.

"Doesn't stop me from trying", He shrugged. He was about to move past Hermione when she caught his arm with one hand, shifting Magic to her other.

"Why're you doing this?" She asked.

Draco faltered. Why was he doing this? Why did he care if Hermione was accepted or not? This wasn't even their actual reality.

"You what? Why do you care?" Hermione asked, barely breathing.

"I- I think it's about time somebody made him realize what he was missing out on," He said, his reasoning sounding weak to his own ears.

"What's he missing out on, pray tell."

"Us, you, Aaron, our family."

Hermione closed her eyes for a few seconds, breathing deeply. "Why suddenly?"

"I've been meaning to for a long time. But it's increased lately."

"Why's that?"

Why indeed. Draco didn't know what to reply to that. Why? Because he felt like this Other Reality was more and more possible as the days flew by. As their moments grew more intense. More intimate.

How did he explain the feelings going through him now days? It had been two days since Aaron's birthday. Something had changed. And he didn't know whether it was a good change or a bad one.

"Can we just go?" He looked into her eyes with such intensity that she let go of his arm and took a step behind, finding herself nodding.

"I'll get dressed." She hurried off and closed her room door behind her, leaning against it once on the other side.

What was going on? Why did it feel like something had happened? Something had changed? They weren't who they were before. There was something new in the air... Something unusual to their... 'relationship'.

She shook her head, straightened up and went to her wardrobe, pulling out a black turtle neck full shirt and jeans. She pulled on a trench coat over her outfit, brushed down her hair and headed downstairs.

"Aaron, we're going to meet... Uh... Your grandfather for a bit." She heard Draco say. "What would you like to do?"

"Since coming along isn't a wise option, could I go over to grandmum's?" Aaron asked, sadness in his eyes that made Hermione want to cry. Or kill Lucius for treating his own grandchildren like this. Whichever happened first.

"Sure, love". Hermione said, coming down the stairs, picking her mobile phone off the side table and slipping it into her pocket. They flooed Aaron and Magic over to Malfoy Manor where Narcissa was more than happy to have them over for the evening.

They then proceeded in flooing to the Ministry, from where they flooed to Lucius' house arrest location.

They brushed the soot and dust off their clothes and the first thing they saw was Lucius Malfoy sitting on the sofa opposite them, reading a book. Draco stumbled back a few steps at the sight of his father. The man looked older than usual. Not just by seven years, but by so many more. His eyes had bags beneath them and his hair had been tied up but cut to his shoulder and looking grey more than the Malfoy blonde. He had lost tonnes of weight and looked like, for a lack of better words, a mess.

"What are you both doing here?" Lucius spat, tossing his book onto the coffee table and standing up.

"We were bored so we decided to drop by", Draco said in his coldest possible drawl.

Lucius' expression hardened. "Didn't I tell you to never bring-", He nodded at Hermione without looking at her, "-that to this house?"

"We came here to tell you that we are having another child", Draco said.

"I do not care about what you do in your free time", Lucius said, sneering.

"The child would be your second grandchild!" Draco growled. "How could you be so insensitive?!"

"I didn't accept the first, I don't think the second has a chance!" Lucius said, rolling his eyes.

" 'The First' has a name and it's Aaron", Hermione said softly.

"Don't speak to me like that, Mudblood-"

"Dont speak to her like that!" Draco said through gritted teeth. Hermione looked at him, her eyes wide. Since when had he become so defensive? "And dont you dare use that word in front of me!"

"Why are you here?" Lucius spat. "Especially with that." He gestured towards Hermione again.

"She has a name and it's Hermione. It's no wonder nobody speaks to you with respect. You can't speak to anybody with it."

"Thats no way to speak to your father."

Draco practically spat at his 'father's' feet. "You were done being my father a bloody long time ago, Lucius."

"Did Narcissa not come today?"

"She's spending time with her grandson."

Lucius grunted. "She's wasting her time. Its a wonder you wanted to have kids, Draco."

"But he did!" Hermione found herself getting very angry. "And he's treating his son leagues better than you treated yours. He's giving his son all the love in the world. So much more than you gave your's. It's sick. Even after half your life, you aren't trying to fix things with your family! You still have time, Lucius!"

Lucius strode forward and came to stand inches away from Hermione. Draco immediately placed himself in between the two, facing the older man.

"Don't come near her", He snarled. Hermione placed her palms against Draco's back and she felt him relaxing just a bit under her touch.

"Calm down, he won't hurt me", She said.

"You really were too nice for your own good, Mudblood," Lucius said.

"Let's just go home", Hermione urged Draco, ignoring the older man just as Draco ignored her the next second.

"Why can't you just accept my wife?! You ruined your own wife's life! Your ruined your own son's life! You couldn't love anyone if your life depended on it, I get it! But acceptance isn't so difficult! Don't ruin anyone else's life! Don't-"

Draco's head snapped to the right as Lucius' palm struck his cheek. He stumbled back a few steps into Hermione as she gasped.

He straightened up, his hand lightly against his cheek, holding it. He released a menacing, humorless laugh.

"That's it? No beating this time? No crucio? No flinging me against the wall? Your growing soft, father", He spat the last word out as if it were an insult.

"Let's just go home, please!" Hermione cried, pulling at Draco's arm.

"You know I knew you were evil", Draco said, as he let Hermione drag him to the fireplace. "But I thought you could change! I thought after the Dark Lord left, you would change. But I was wrong!"

"You weren't wrong about me being able to change", Lucius said, watching with a sneer as Hermione pulled him into the fireplace. "I was changing. But then I stopped. Why? Because you decided to bring the mudblood home." Before Draco could lunge out, Hermione chucked a handful of floo powder beneath them and called out "Ministry Of Magic!" From where, the flooed home.

They stumbled out on to the hearth and caught themselves before they could fall.

"Are you stupid?!" Hermione cried, spinning to face Draco as soon as she steadied herself.

Draco just stared at her, holding his red cheek.

"What is wrong with you?" She said, pushing him slightly before standing in front of him and removing the hand covering his cheek. He just stared at her.

"He could have hurt you worse than this!" She said, moving to the kitchen and grabbing some ice from the freezer. She conjured a cloth, wrapped it around the ice and came back to Draco. She held it against his bruising cheek.

"I don't know what I would've done if he had done something to you! You're so very stupid! Why did we even go there? It's been seven years, Draco! Seven years! You have to be daft to think that you can change his mind now!" She rambled on, pressing the ice against his face.

He watched as she spoke on. He watched as tears began welling up in her eyes. And he watched as she began crying, still talking, still trying to heal his cheek.

He raised his hand and pressed his palm across her mouth, silencing her immediately. She froze, her eyes raising to meet his.

"Do you ever stop talking?" He asked, smiling slightly, though it hurt his cheek.

"Do you ever stop being an idiot?" She countered through his fingers, choking back a sob. Draco moved his hand and cupped her cheek with it instead.

"Why on earth are you crying, Granger?" He asked.

"Didnt you hear what he said? You could've been a family, he could've changed- had it not been for me. Had I not come into your life", She said, closing her eyes. He sighed and brought his face to her's, leaning his forehead against her's.

"He was never good to me. If I had to make a choice between the two of you, you know who Id choose", Draco said, closing his eyes as well.

"I dont. He's your father!"

"He's a downright arsehole. I'd choose you", He said as he held her face with both his hands her hand slipped down to rest on his shoulders, the ice falling to the floor.

"He's your father".

"You're my-" He fell silent. She was his what? Friend? Girlfriend? Wife? What was she?

"I'm your friend."

"Not in the future. In this Other Reality, I was clearly madly in love with you."

Her heart was hammering against her chest. Just like his was.

Future Draco was madly in love with Hermione, just as future Hermione was in love with Draco. But what about the present them?

* * *

"Are you sure you know how to do this?" Hermione asked nervously as Ginny stood in front of her, pleating the cloth in her hands.

"Relax, would you? Padma taught me and Luna so we could help get our friend's ready", Ginny said. The red head was currently helping Hermione wear, what Indians call a "Saree". It's usually a five meter cloth wrapped around your waist, the cloth wide enough to reach the floor. It's wrapped around your waist a few times, pleated at the front, tucked into the base skirt and then the remaining fabric is slung over your shoulder from the front. Really, it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Beneath the saree, is, as mentioned earlier, a base floor-length thin skirt called a peticoat that is fixed tightly and is usually a similar shade to the saree. For the upper body, there is a snug blouse that stops several inches above the waist but it depends from style to style.

Hermione's saree was a light pink with a silver, sparkling border while her blouse was the colour of the border and backless.

"These really are stunning attires", Hermione said as Ginny slung the remaining fabric over the brunette's left shoulder and it fell down the entire length of her back.

"They are", Ginny smiled, standing up to her full height. She was dressed in a black saree with a golden border. They had their hair let down, silver and golden bangles respectively on their wrists and while Hermione wore white heels, Ginny wore black ones.

(A/N: Sorry guys! I usually never have A/N's in the middle of chapters like this but I had to make an exception this time. I can imagine that loads of you won't be able to imagine the Saree so those of you who can't, google image "anushka sharma saree" and check out the first few images and similar ones on the page- they should be okay!)

They two women picked up their clutch purses and headed down the stairs.

"I really hope we'll be in a heated area. I'm already feeling cold", Hermione commented, rubbing her hands up and down her upper arms for warmth.

"Parvati said not to worry so we should be okay", Ginny smiled. They were headed to Parvati and Dean's wedding reception. While the actual wedding had been done privately with a white-gown, black-suit and wedding vows in Dean's family's way, Parvati had wanted an Indian reception. It was unique, fair and fun.

Hermione stepped into the fireplace and held tightly to Ginny. They would've apparated had Hermione not been under strict instructions that she was not allowed to do so while pregnant. They stepped out of the fireplace they arrived at and brushed themselves off.

A house elf was standing in the small floo room, waiting to receive them.

"Miss Hermione, Miss Ginny? Dwinee here to take you to the main hall." The elf said, bowing low.

They followed the little creature out if the room and into the main hall, where a large crowd had gathered, all dressed in sarees and suits. Parvati and Dean immideately met them, pulling them into embraces.

"Congratulations, both of you!" Hermione said, splitting apart from Parvati and hugging Dean. "May you live a long, happily married life." She smiled at them.

"With lots of adorable children", Ginny said, grinning. The couple laughed and Dean said, "Parvati's already got a list of names ready."

Hermione heard him but was busy searching the crowd.

"Harry, Draco and Aaron are beside the drinks table, Hermione", Parvati said, touching her arm.

She nodded, blushing a bit before Dean and Parvati promised to come speak with them once they were done greeting the guests. The two women walked over to where Parvati had said the other three would be. Draco and Harry turned towards them when Aaron called out to his mum. Both their eyes grew wide simultaneously.

"You both look gorgeous", Draco commented and to her immense surprise, he leaned over and pecked her on the cheek. To say she was shocked would be an understatement. She felt her face heat up and knew Ginny's eyes were on them.

"Thanks", She muttered. The two men were dressed in black suits, as all the other men in the hall were.

The evening passed just as Hayley and Ron's engagement party had. Quite literally. There was dancing. A lot of it. But not once did Draco come up to Hermione. She looked up as Harry came up to her.

"Hermione, Draco just sprinted outside into the garden saying he needed some air. Im not entirely sure, but he didn't look very okay", He said, his eyebrows furrowed together in apparent concern. Hermione nodded and saying a quick "thanks", she made sure Aaron was alright with Luna and Neville before leaving the hall and heading to the gardens.

She immediately felt goose bumps rise on her arms and bare stomach as she stepped out into the chilly air. She ignored the cold as she walked up to Draco who was seated on a bench, leaning back with his eyes closed.

"Malfoy?" His eyes flew open and he jumped to his feet, facing her.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"You don't look okay", She said. And he didn't.

"Im fine!" He snapped, surprising her. He saw the hurt in her eyes and he was about to apologize when she spoke.

"Well forgive me for being concerned!" She said. "What is wrong with you?! One second you're bloody kissing me on the cheek in greeting and the second you're avoiding me and refusing to look in my direction and-"

"How do you know that?" He shot at her.

"I happen to be observant!" She cried.

"Observant? Well, you've obviously not been observing well enough", He chuckled humorlessly.

"What- What are you talking about?" Hermione asked, "Do you know how I've been feeling these past few hours? You did it again! Its like a freaking repeat telecast from Ron and Hayley's engagement party!"

"What am I talking about? Dammit, Granger, I can't- Forget it!" Draco said, running his fingers through his hair and turning around.

"You can't keep doing that to me!" Hermione strode forward.

"Doing what, pray tell, Granger?!" He asked rough gritted teeth.

"Starting to say something and then acting like it doesn't matter! Acting like not talking about it will make me forget it! It won't, Draco! It wont! And if- look at me when I'm talking, goddamit! Look at me when I'm talking!" She screamed, tears in her eyes.

Draco spun around, his face in a sneer. "You can't tell me what to do!"

"Then can you tell me what the hell I'm supposed to do?! You're kissing me one moment and the other you're acting like-" She gestured wildly in front of her, "-Like this? Tell me, Draco, what I'm supposed to think anymore!"

"Think what you want to! Im not supposed to care! And neither are you!"

"But I DO!" Hermione cried, tears cascading down her cheeks. "I do care! And so do you! You said you're not "supposed to care"! But you do! We both do!"

"Shut up, Granger!" Draco yelled, emotion blazing within his steel blue eyes.

"Tell me, Draco, why you've been avoiding me this evening yet again?" Hermione asked, gripping his shoulders with her hands. "Tell me why you haven't so much as looked in my direction!" She had begun calling him by his given name without even realizing it.

"That's a lie! I don't know where you- Forget it!"

"No! Tell me!"

"I don't have to tell you-"

"I thought you were different! I thought WE were different. But I was wrong, wasn't I? I was just-"

"I couldn't get my eyes off you!" Draco yelled, slipping his fingers roughly through his hair and yanking at the roots.

Hermione stumbled back a few steps, her hands slipping from his shoulders, shocked.

"What?" She asked softly. Disbelievingly.

"You heard me!" He snapped. "Don't make me say it again! I couldn't bloody NOT look at you!"

"You have a funny way of showing it", Hermione said, shaking her head.

"You have no idea what I'm going through", Draco said.

"And you have an idea of what I'm going through, do you?" Hermione asked, her hands on her stomach protectively. "Do you, Draco? Have you stopped to consider my feelings?"

"I'VE ONLY BEEN CONSIDERING YOUR FEELINGS!" He roared. "And its driving me mad! That I can only seem to think about YOU now! I don't have any space in here-" He gestured to his head, "-For myself anymore! I'm going crazy! Absolutely mad!"

Hermione stood frozen where she was, her mouth opening to say something and then closing again, unable to find the words.

"I don't know what to think anymore! What do I say? Every time I- Merlin, Granger!" He said, his voice lowering again as he closed his eyes. He felt a hand on his upper arm and he instantly relaxed under her touch.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She choked out, overcome by emotion.

"Why- Why didnt I tell you?" Draco spluttered.

"Yes, why didn't you tell me?" She asked, her throat constricting and her heart beating madly.

"Because I- I don't know! Because I- Damn, Hermione!" Draco yelled, frustrated.

"It wouldn't have been so difficult! We could have talked about it!" She insisted, noticing but not commenting on the fact that he had called her 'Hermione'.

"You can't talk about everything!" Draco said, throwing his arms in the air, successfully removing Hermione's touch. "You can't talk about everything and you can't fix everything!"

"What's there to fix? We've just been around each other a lot so it's natural! And yes we can talk about it! You could have just told me that-"

"Told you what? This?! I can't!"

"Why not? It's-"

"Because I've never fallen for anyone like this!" Both froze. Their eyes flew to each other's and brown locked stormy blue. Their chests heaved from the screaming and her eyes stung from crying. She stared at him now. Not moving except for their heavy breathing. Their hearts were thundering against their rib cages.

"Because I've never fallen for anyone like this", Draco repeated, softer this time. It broke them both out of the trance they were in, her more than him. She blinked. He stared. "I've never- felt like this."

"I-" Hermione was about to say, a small smile appearing on her face but his next sentence wiped it straight off her face.

"And I hate myself for it!" Draco said.

"Wh-What? You- you what?" Hermione asked, feeling like her heart had just been stabbed several times in one second. In one sentence.

"I hate myself for harboring feelings for you!" He said, speaking before thinking. "I hate myself for liking someone like you!" He didn't realize what he had just said until she repeated it.

"Someone like me?" She croaked out, blinded by the tears in her eyes.

"Yes, someone like-" A crack resounded through the garden as his head was thrown to the right side, his left cheek red. Her hand hovered in the air after it struck his cheek and she curled it into a fist and brought it back down by her side.

"I was such an idiot," She whispered.

Draco was still recovering from the slap. What had he said... Someone like her. Oh Merlin, no...

"I- I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking, I-"

"Shut up", She said, shaking her head and covering her face with her hands.

"I swear I didn't mean that. I would never-"

"Just shut up!" She cried, beginning to sob into her hands. He hesitated a moment before stepping forward and moving to put his arms around her. She stilled as soon as she felt him near her, removed her hands from her face, placed her palms on his chest and shoved him away.

"Don't touch me!" She screamed, blinking away the tears from her eyes. She pointed her index finger at him in warning. "Don't come near me. Don't you dare! And besides, I might get my mudblood germs on you."

His eyes widened. "You know I didn't mean it that way! This is just new for me, this-"

"Happened with someone like me. I get it! You said it already! God, I was so stupid!" She said, closing her eyes and trying to calm down. "I actually had- I'm such an idiot!"

"No, no you're not, you-"

"Dammit, Draco, shut up!" She said, her voice octaves higher than usual. "Just... Just leave me alone." She turned and walked away from him, moving as fast as her heels and outfit allowed her. He moved swiftly after her.

He caught her arm. She shrugged it off. He blocked her way and pleaded. She ignored. He said that he was sorry and that he didn't want her to leave. She wished the same. He said he wanted to talk about it. She said it was too late.

UNFEWRIUFNIEUOTNGERITUN SO MANY EMOTIONS. That last scene. I hope Im getting somewhere now after a long long time? A reviewer of mine mentioned that I should be speeding things up and i COMPLETELY agree- I need to get this story somewhere before it loses touch. Ive planned out the remaining chapters and the story will come to an end in about, say, 6-7 chapters- So at chapter 26 maybe? We have a few things left to tie up- the child wanting to kill her, Ritch, getting back (if they do), Lucius, and their feelings for each other. Plus a few tiny twists here and there too.

So tell me how you liked this chapter (: I wanted to introduce a little indian culture to you guys so I put the little saree bit in there, hope you guys could picture the required! Do review, it would mean the world to me and I really am hoping to touch 350 or hopefully more reviews this time 'round :D

Love always,
FeltonLewis ;) xx

Incase i need to mention, Anushka Sharma is a bollywood actress :P
