Chapter 8 : viii.

Background: Font color:
“BELLA!” She yells after me. There’s a muffled thud from behind me and I imagine Rose tripping of a broom.
I snort in amusement, shake my head and continue walking. She catches up to me eventually and grabs my arm to turn my around so I’m facing her.
“Wh-“ I frown at her.
“Just listen to me, okay?” She interrupts. Her eyes are wide and pleading. She means business.
I sigh, cross my arms and wait for her to finish so I can leave.
“Look, I’m sorry you had to see this – I really am!” She tries to persuade me when I roll my eyes at her words. “But I didn’t mean for you to see this, I didn’t mean for you to found out like this –“
That’s when I swear a vein just popped in my brain, “You didn’t mean for me to found out like this? Or was it really you didn’t want me to found at all.” My voice rose in anger at every word, so I was basically screaming by the time I was done.
Rose looked flabbergasted, “No, we were planning on telling you...” She doesn’t look at me when she says this, making me believe that wasn’t entirely true.
“Oh really?” I say and throw my hands up in the air in exasperation, “because that makes this situation so much better.” I say sarcastically.
By this point I didn’t even care that my snarky remarks weren’t even making that much sense, I was just mad. Full stop. End of story.
Rose looks at me through sad eyes, “I thou-thought you’d be happy for us?”
I narrow my eyes slightly, “Well I would be happy, if you know... you had actually told me about this instead of just letting me find out by finding you practically shagging my brother in a fucking broom cupboard!” Rose flinches slightly and has the sincerity to look guilty, “How long has this actually been going on?”`
Matt, who has finally caught up to us, takes the courage to speak up. I don’t know why it’s taken this long for him to speak... I mean, I just screamed my head off at his girlfriend, or whatever, you’d think he would have stepped up before now.
“About a month.” He states in a matter-of-fact tone.
“A month?” I ask, completely dumbfounded.
“A month.” He states likes he is talking to a child. I resist the urge to stick my tongue out at him.
“So...are you two dating?” I ask hesitantly after a pause of silence. I’m not sure I really want any details.
Rose speaks up this time, “No,” She says but kinda contradicts herself by lacing her fingers with his.
What the fuck is wrong with these people?
“Why not? You’s looked pretty...together...when I – er –“I cringe; now I have that damn image of them together back in my head.
“Well, we don’t really want to go public...”
“Why the hell not?” I screeched. I didn’t understand this one bit. It’s not like I have much experience in this department but, correct me if I’m wrong, hiding in a broom cupboard isn’t really the most romantic of places.
“Well,” Rose said slowly, “kinda because we expected you to act like this.” She looks a little scared at telling me this.
“Like what?” I screech again and Rose rolls her eyes, giving me a pointed look.
I look to Matt, hoping he would disagree with her. No such luck. He shrugs his shoulders and gives one of those tight lipped half smiles. He shortly adverts his gaze.
I didn’t react that bad did I?
I breathe out loudly and sag my shoulders, “Fine, I’m sorry, but this is a lot to take in, I mean you honestly should have told me sooner, BUT,” I yell when I notice Rose sucking air to argue back with me, “I guess I can see where you are coming from – sort of, not really. Okay a little.”
Why am I still talking?
“But I’ll try and understand the best I can, I just don’t want to see that,” I wave my hand past the two of them and point to the cupboard, ”ever again.”
Matt snorts rather unattractively, “Oh please Bella, don’t be such a prude! We were only snogging, it’s not like we were having –“
“I am not a prude!” I yell before he can even mention that last word. Rose giggles at me. Giggles! I’ve never even heard her giggle in my life! “And I know you were snogging! I just don’t want to see it again!”
Matt crosses his arms, a smirk appearing on his gleeful face, “Oh really, I didn’t even know you knew what snogging was!”
“I’ve snogged my fair share of guys, thank you very much!” I cry defensively. It was a brief exaggeration, considering I’d only ever snogged, if you could even call it that, one guy in my life time.
Maybe I am a prude.
“Oh really, and who are they?” His smirk increases, he knows he’s going to win this battle.
“Oh...you know. People...guys... maybe even some girls,” Really Bella? This is what your brain comes up with? “It’s none of your business!” I shriek at him.
I turn quickly on my heel and walk away, before my dignity is completely shattered. I can’t believe I’d just caught him practically shagging my bestfriend and he turns it around on me.
I don’t know where I’m even heading, but the sound of Matt’s cackling laughter stills rings clearly in my head.
“I’m still mad at you, remember?”
I’d been sitting beside the Herbology Greenhouses for about three hours now. I figured no one would find me here, considering Herbology was my worst subject.
Guess I was wrong.
He completely ignores my question, “Your brother said you’re missing. He’s pretty worried.” I guess he would be considering it was starting to get dark. My ass had fallen asleep about one and a half hours ago and I was only now starting to feel the evening chill.
“Mind if I sit down?” He nods towards the ground beside me.
“Little bit, yeah.” I say indifferently as I stare up at the clouds, watching the sun slowly disappear behind the horizon. It was quite beautiful.
“Okay, that’s fine, I know you’re still mad. I really am sorry though, I didn’t mean to act like such a –“
“Dick,” I finish before him.
Aiden chuckles, “I was going to say ‘wanker’ but I guess that fits too.”
I smile slightly still staring at the sun set.
I didn’t feel as much hatred towards Aiden as I had the past weeks. I really did know he was sorry. I guess that’s what you get when you hang out with a Slytherin.
“I know you are,” I say softly and stare up at Aiden’s face. The limited light casts shadows over his features but I can just make out his frown.
“You know what? That I’m a wanker?”
I laugh out loud, “No idiot. I know you’re sorry. It just didn’t sink in until now.”
“Really? You’re no longer mad?” He sounded quite astonished. He doesn’t have much faith in me.
“Well yeah, I’m still mad, but I accept your apology.” I start to stand up to get ready to leave, my eyes were having a hard time adjusting to the darkness.
My legs had a different plan. They were so numb from sitting down so long and when I took a step forward, my leg gave way.
Aiden’s strong arms grip mine before I can make contact with the ground. I breathe a sigh of relief, grateful that I hadn’t hit the ground. Considering the amount of rocks and sticks that were grouped around me that would have hurt. A lot.
Aiden mutters a quick “Lumos,” and suddenly I can see again.
Huh. Why hadn’t I thought of that?
“Are you okay?” Aiden asks, concern written all over his face as he checks me over for injury.
“I’m fine, Aiden.” Suddenly annoyed at his fussing, “I didn’t hit the ground remember?”
He stares at me for a few moments, then clears his throat awkwardly and takes a few steps away. I straighten myself up and dust myself off.
“Well,” He says after a moment of uncomfortable silence, “we should probably get going. It’s nearly ten. Don’t want to break curfew, you know.” He says in a weird voice that makes me feel like he wants to be anywhere else but here.
I also know he’s lying to me. I know for a fact that Aiden breaks curfew all the time without a second thought. The perks of being a badass Slytherin, I guess.
Why is he acting this way?
“Fine. Let’s go.” I turn on my heel and start walking – more like storming – toward the castle.
Aiden has to practically run to catch up to me, “Aw, are you mad again?” He questions, but I can hear the smile in his voice.
I don’t look at him, “I was always mad, remember?” I seem to be telling him to remember stuff a lot. Maybe he needs his memory rebooted or something.
He doesn’t reply but seems to laugh triumphantly. For a reason I don’t even know. He’s acting far too strange tonight to even question his actions. I mean, one minute he’s Mr Awkward and the next he’s laughing because I said I was mad at him.
I can’t keep up with this boy.
We walked the rest of the way in silence, aside from a few absentminded chuckles from Aiden.
We were just nearing the Gryffindor common room entrance, as Aiden had insisted he walk me the whole way, when something came to mind.
“Do you think,” Suddenly I felt embarrassed at even starting to ask that, “nevermind.” I mumble.
I was just about to whisper the password to the fat lady when he pulled me up short, grabbing my arm and facing him back towards him.
Everyone seems to be that today. What is it, bruise Bella’s arm day?
“What?” He seemed kinda harsh at wanting an answer.
“Don’t worry it doesn’t matter,” I argue and turn around again, but his arm is strong and holds me in place. It kinda hurts.
“No, no, you were going to ask me something, you have to tell me now.” He seemed quick happy about this.
Great, and now he’s giving me the puppy dog eyes.
I cave like a weakling.
“Do you –“ I clear my throat, “Do you think I’m a prude?” I feel my cheeks burn up in embarrassment.
From the look on his face I can tell that wasn’t the question he’d been expecting. He looks quite shocked.
After a moment, he frowns, “Why do you ask that?”
“It’s just something my brother said.” I didn’t want to elaborate. I felt so awkward in this situation. I should have kept my mouth shut.
He must have noticed my face because he squeezes my arm tighter. Jesus, I won’t be able to feel it soon, “Well, he’s wrong. You are not at all a prude or frigid and whatever the hell you call it.” I giggled. “You are a terrific and beautiful girl and he has no right saying that to you.”
Something in my chest tightened. No one had ever said something like that to me before. It was completely irrelevant to the topic. But it was still nice.
He holds my gaze for a few moments and it’s only then that I notice how green his eyes are. How had I never noticed?
He seems to be waiting for me to say something, that look of expectation is clear on his face.
I completely surprise myself by leaning forward and hugging him. He freezes and I pull back thinking that I’ve overstepped some kind of line, seen as we aren’t actually meant to be ‘dating’ anymore.
He’s not angry though. In fact, he looks quite delighted and a small smile appears on his face, making him look cute and adds to his boyish features. I can’t help but return the smile.
I touch his cheek, “Thankyou,” I say genuinely, “you’re like the best guy friend I’ve ever had.”
His smile drops slightly, and I don’t know why. I thought he’d be happy that I’m even calling him my friend after everything he did. After a moment of just staring at each other like idiots, he smiles again, but it’s not the same as before. It doesn’t reach his eyes. “Hey,” he says with a small shrug, “I’m here to help.”
I step away from him and this time he lets me go. “Okay, well, see you tomorrow.” I say awkwardly.
“Yeah,” I barely hear his reply and he won’t look at me anymore.
I mutter the password to the Fat Lady and before I step inside I take a look back at Aiden. He’s still standing there, hands in his pockets, hair windswept. However he’s no longer smiling, he looks quite dejected.
With a small frown I head inside.
“Where the bloody hell were you?” Is the first thing I hear as I walk into the common room.
“Hello to you too, dear brother,” I reply to Matt as he grips my arms tightly.
Yep, totally going to have a bruise tomorrow.
His face is concerned and from the look of his winter clothes and reddened cheeks, I can tell he’s been out looking for me.
I guess that’s kind of sweet.
“You can’t even imagine all the horrible things I thought had happened to you! I thought the dementors had gotten you, or you accidently fell into the Black Lake and the Giant Squid had eaten you! Please, don’t ever do that to me again!” He pulls me into a tight hug, knocking the breath out of me.
Why are all the men in Hogwarts acting weird tonight? Is it a full moon or something?
“Okay,” I wheeze out, “Bella can’t breathe anymore. Unless you want to do the killing, I suggest you let go.”
He complies and holds me at arms length, “Sorry. It’s just... you’re my baby sister, it’s my job to worry about you.”
I ignore his ‘baby sister’ comment and give him a quick hug, “I know and I love you for it.”
I kiss him on the cheek and step away to head to bed.
“Wait,” He calls as make my way up the stairs, “Someone told me, you were found by someone. Who was it?”
I’m a little startled that people had seen me with Aiden. I feel like my privacy was violated.
“Aiden,” I say simply.
Matt looks surprised. “Oh, that was...er... nice of him. I didn’t think he’d care seen as you aren’t dating anymore.”
“He’s a nice guy Matt,” I say in Aiden’s defence.
The next words that come out of Matt’s mouth shock me to oblivion, “I know.”
I’m too stunned to even say anything. When I first introduced Aiden as my boyfriend to Matt, it seemed like they hated each other.
“Get some sleep Bells, you must be tired,” He says quickly and makes his way over to the guy’s dorm rooms.
I nod my head and walk to the dorm slowly suddenly feeling exhausted from today’s events. I slide into the comfort of my bed, more confused then ever.
Author Note: So there is chapter 8, hope you liked it! And I hope you may take the time to review!
So, Aiden and Bella are back on speaking terms. Yay! Also, I mentioned in this chapter that Aiden’s eyes are green and I’m not sure if I’ve mention his eye colour before. But if I have in previous chapters and I’ve gotten it wrong for this one, please tell me because I’m too lazy to go back and check ;)
Also sorry for any mistakes, it’s currently 2am, and I’m too tired to edit this right now, I’ll go back and do it later :)
Until next time!
