A/N: This chapter takes place after Harry is born.
“So…let’s hear it. Number twenty-five,” Lily said exasperatedly.
It was a warm mid-autumn night. We had taken Harry to a muggle county fair that Lily had insisted on coming to. Apparently she used to come here every year as a child. At this exact moment, we were sitting at the top of a Ferris Wheel which had unfortunately broken down. Blasted muggle contraption. Lily REFUSED to let me magically fix it. “Let them do it themselves, James! They’ll wonder what happened!” she said. Well we had been up here for an hour or so waiting for it to start up again. In the past hour, I had been explaining to Lily that there are many things she should know about all males. She bet me that I wouldn't be able to name twenty-five of them. Pssh. Please Lily dear. It’s absolutely insane how competitive the two of us can be.
I looked down at Harry. He was sitting in Lily's lap and had been staring up at me as I had recounted all the stories. He must have just fallen asleep because he was now breathing evenly with his eyes shut, curled up in a little ball, his hands closed in fists. I can’t even believe how much I love that little guy. He looks just like me but with Lily's eyes. He's gonna have all the girls after him when he's older. I can already tell.
“Aw, babe, look at Harry. He fell asleep listening to all of my stories!” I said excitedly.
“Stop changing the subject, James,” she said, rolling her eyes. I looked over at her face and saw her smiling smugly. “You don’t have another ‘rule’, now do you?”
I smiled. She is honestly so adorable when she thinks that she’s right. I can tell she’s been a teensy tiny bit afraid that I’m right. That girl just hates to lose. Especially to me. I took a look around the county fair at the lights and children screaming and laughing on other rides around us, ignoring Lily for a long moment.
Suddenly Lily’s hand starts waving in front of my face, making me look at her. “Um, helloooo,” Lily said with a smug smile, bringing me back to the original subject at hand.
“Babe, come on, why don't we just leave it? ” I asked. “It’s stupid.”
Lily rolled her eyes and scoffed with a smile. “You got nothin’ buddy boy.”
I smiled at her. How I landed such a beautiful girl, I will never know. I am so lucky. “I guess you’re right, love,” I said with a shrug.
She looked away with a satisfied smile on her face. “What can I say? I’m just amazing. I know everything.”
“You are completely right sweetheart. You are absolutely amazing,” I laughed. She grinned, kissed me and leaned her head on my shoulder.
‘Rule 25: Even when you’re wrong, we pretend you’re right just to make you happy’ , I thought with a smile, wrapping my arm around my beautiful wife and son.
