Next chapter up!
I hope you enjoy, and also, Mae isn't using Freddie so don't kill me!
I was woken by the sweet sounds of birds flying around Hogwarts, they're melodic tunes appealing to my happiness of finally being back home at Hogwarts, the place I had really missed. My eyes slowly fluttered open to see that it was blinking red digits of 6:00, making me groan and roll over, squashing my face into a pillow while forcing my eyes shut trying to fall back asleep.
My brain wandered off into the depths of my consciousness, trying to find something soothing to send me back off to sleep. Suddenly the thought of James and I finally being together slipped into my mind, the vision of James and I snogging enthusiastically came across my eyes and my lips pulled themselves into a grin.
In the dream, we were standing in the middle of the brightly lit Entrance Hall. The day seemed to be perfect, the sun was shining brightly and the birds were chirping as we kissed in the hall, but no matter how happy she could feel, the thought of how terrible this idea was kept lingering in the back of her mind, but with the warmth of James’ hand on her waist, all was forgotten.
In a split second the dream grew ugly. The sun disappeared and a thunderstorm appeared out of no where, the lighting striking the closest window, sending students into hysterics and causing James and myself to break apart. With the next second, Freddie appeared next to them, his face full of anger before his fist snapped forward to connect with James’ nose, causing blood to spurt out and I to scream. With the flick of his wand, James fell to the floor in a mess of mangled limbs. I started to scream, but before I could fall to the floor to help James, Freddie grabbed my arm and yanked me back, staring at me with a helpless look on his face.
“How could you Mae!” he roared, his face getting redder and redder, “How could you do this to me? I gave you everything and here I find you with my best friend? I thought I could trust you! I love you so, so much Mae, and the most devastating part is that I thought you loved me too!”
“I do Freddie! I do! It’s just I love James too!” I screamed back at him, tears running down my face as I looked between my two men.
“But you love him more!” He yelled, his eyes growing sad.
“Yes, you do! I can’t believe I didn’t see through it! It was so bloody obvious now I think about it! I was even going to give you this,” Freddie grabbed something out of his pocket and threw it on the ground next to my feet, “But you ripped up my heart, don’t ever talk to me again!”
With the last word, he turned on his heel and stalked out of the hall.
I stood there, tears dripping down my face, on to the floor silently, but through the tears, something caught my eye. The object Freddie had thrown. It was small, but shiny, and when I bent down to get a better look, I gasped.
It was an engagement ring.
Then I woke up, sweating.
Holy crap, that was vivid. How had I dreamed about that? Was I already feeling bad that I was using Freddie to get closer to James? Ugh! Why did I agree with myself to do this?
I looked at the clock hoping that it was 7:30, but sadly it was only 6:15. So slowly, I pulled myself out of bed and gathered my bathroom things, wand and uniform and tiptoed into the bathroom.
Looking at myself in the mirror, you could tell I’d had a rough night’s sleep. My hair was a knotted mess that could only be saved by a shower, my face had stains of overnight makeup, and my eyes were red rimmed.
I groaned again and threw myself into a hot shower. The hot water stung my body, but in a good way. I washed my hair and used all my skin products just to remove my makeup, then I had to redo it again to make sure my skin was clean. Stepping out of the shower, I grabbed my wand and tapped the top of my head, my hair drying into natural waves. As I stood there completely naked in front of the mirror, I realised I was going to have to look my absolute best every day from now on. No bad days. I had passed a step, I had James attention and I had to keep it that way.
Today I picked my uniform extremely carefully, a red lace push-up bra with matching panties, same boring old school uniform consisting of my white oxford shirt, Gryffindor house tie, and black skirt. Today due to the heat, I opted out of the woollen jumper and robe like most of the Hogwarts population would, it was quite warm for September.
I guess another plus was that my cleavage would be in way better view with out my jumper. Freddie and James were in for a real treat.
My house tie was slightly loose, while my shirt was untucked with the top two buttons undone, with my skirt half way up my thighs. Not too slutty, but not too conservative.
I took a long time choosing shoes, I prided myself on shoes. I collected different pairs, my shoe collection was extremely extensive, and I was well known for wearing some pretty out there shoes. Today I decided on some bright cherry red high heels with a platform, making my tan legs look extra long and skinny.
To complete everything, my makeup was small, with foundation, mascara, eyeliner and just a natural eye shadow. The only big thing was my lips, cherry red to match my shoes while my hair was elegantly styled by keeping it down with a simple fairy braid.
When I was all done, it was about 7:15 so I gave myself one last look in the mirror, and left the bathroom. My normal wake up time was around 7:30 and Dom was always awake before me, so I decided to unpack up my trunk while waiting for her. As I pulled out my sheets, with a flick of a wand they were spread on my four poster, the crisp white cover looking brilliant against the many grey and white matching pillows. As well as this, I pulled out my pile of photos that I took with me everywhere, quickly sticking them to the wall with a nifty charm meaning only I could remove them. Most photos contained Dom and I, some with my brother Mitch and his best friend Sam, a couple with my family and a few with Carolyn, Robyn and Alessandria. As I stood back to admire my work, the people in the images awoke and shrieked, quickly rushing out of the frame to change from their pyjamas. I then set up my books, parchment, ink and quills on my little area of a desk while my dorm mates Eve and Sasha were now awake and getting ready for school.
As the clock struck 7:40, Eve and Sasha left with a wave while Dom slept on. From a mix of boredom and hunger, I swung myself off my bed and walked over to Dom’s bed, grabbing her shoulders and softly shaking her awake.
“Dom, wake up!” I whispered into her ear.
“Whaaaat?” she replied groggily, obviously still half asleep.
“It’s almost quarter to eight, you’ve got to get up if you want breakfast!” I greeted, standing up.
“WHAT?” Dom shrieked, bolting up, “Seven forty five?”
“Yep,” I replied, popping the ‘p’.
In a second, Dom was quickly up and running round the room grabbing her bathroom bag, makeup, clothes before rushing into the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later she came back and sat on her bed, looking at shoes.
“Ugh! I look horrible today!” she shrieked.
“Don’t worry, let me help,” I tapped her hair and it smoothed out into her normal long wavy layers. I then quickly applied her makeup, minimal leaving her inner Veela to show her beauty off to the world.
“Thanks, but I have no shoes! My sister must have taken them out before I left!” she said angrily, slamming the lid of her trunk.
Dom’s sister Victoire, was twenty and had already left Hogwarts, she was currently in a relationship with the original hunk himself, Teddy Lupin, James’ god brother.
“It’s fine Dom! Borrow a pair of mine!” I yelled over her worried yells, trying to advert from a melt down. A Dominique Weasley Melt Down (a DWMD for short) was almost as worse as a Dominique Weasley Tantrum (DWT), and by all means we were going to avoid both of them.
I thrust a cute pair of gold stilettos in her hands and she looked at them open mouthed.
“Seriously? I can wear these?” she asked, gazing at them.
“Yeah, go ahead. Gold’s not really my colour anyway.”
Please I wouldn't have bought these Dommy if they hadn’t suited me, but let’s not admit that and keep good old Dom away from a DWMD or DWT, we don’t need to redo our dorm first day in.
She smiled, obviously knowing that I they did suit me (bloody fashion god) and just wanted her to wear them before she actually looked at what I was wearing for the first time today.
“Mae, wow,” she breathed.
“Are you doing this for Freddie or James?” she asked suspiciously.
Dom was the only one I had told about my everlasting crush on James, she was the only one I trusted with the whole ‘step by step’ book.
“Both, you’ll see,” I winked, and she giggled looking at her watch before her jaw dropped and she grabbed her bag.
“Crap! I told James and Freddie that we’d meet them in the common room to go down for breakfast five minutes ago!”
Just as I grabbed my bag, she yanked me out the dorm.
When we reached the common room, it was pretty deserted. Breakfast started at around seven o’clock and finished at eight forty-five, fifteen minutes before classes started. James and Freddie hadn’t left without us and were waiting near the fire, leaning against the chairs talking. As soon as they saw us, Freddie’s mouth dropped open and James just stood there staring.
“Hey boys,” I said smiling, walking over and stopping in front of them with Dom.
“Hello,” James whispered.
“Hey gorgeous, you look incredibly sexy,” Freddie said taking my hand. I grinned at him, showing my dazzling white teeth.
“Sorry for being so late,” I rolled my eyes, “This one woke up late and we only mildly avoided a DWMD.”
“Thank Merlin it didn’t come to that,” Freddie grinned.
“So are we just going to stand here or actually going to go and eat?” Dom asked, crossing her arms in annoyance, obviously not amused by our antics.
“Oh, yeah that, let’s go,” James nodded, leading the way out the portrait hole.
We followed out Dom and Freddie talking about a party that happened on the holidays, fighting over what really happened as the usually did while James walked out in front alone.
“Hang on a sec, I need to ask James something,” I told Freddie, skipping along to walk with James, “Hey James.”
“Hi Mae,” he said, almost blurting out the greeting as an automatic.
“So, um, when is my prefect rounds?” I asked, trying to make conversation.
“Tonight,” he replied quickly.
“Awesome and when’s Quidditch trials?” I asked nervously, playing with the hem of my shirt. Quidditch would be a new part of my life at Hogwarts if I got a place on the team. I had always loved the game and had enjoyed playing it with my brother and his friends, but hadn’t really had the confidence to try out for the prestigious Gryffindor team in past years, but this year was difference, I was ready to try.
Plus, James loved girls who loved Quidditch so it didn’t hurt.
He raised his eyebrow at me, “You play?”
“Well, I’m looking for a new Chaser’s this year,” James grinned. James was captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team and possibly the best seeker ever that had ever played at this school. I’d heard he already had got an offer from the England Quidditch Team to play after he left Hogwarts.
“Sweet!” I said excitedly.
“The trials are on Friday afternoon,” he explained, “I didn’t know you played!”
“Well, I’ve had a couple of injuries,” I admitted, it wasn’t a lie either, but it was a good enough cover up for my lack of confidence.
“Ok, well I can’t wait to see you play then,” James smiled. I smiled back with a truly happy feeling, he was excited to see me play!
We had arrived at the Great Hall by now and I could see the food slowly fading away on the Gryffindor table, pigs.
“Quick! Before the food goes!” I shrieked, pulling Freddie towards the table as he appeared with Dom.
We sat down at the table, me and Dom on one side, and Freddie and James on the other before I quickly I filled my plate with pancakes and drizzled them with maple syrup, perfection. If there was one thing I had missed the most about Hogwarts over the break, it was definitely the food. But as I hummed to myself while cutting my pancakes, Freddie and James were watching me with confusion.
“What?” I asked, popping a piece in my mouth.
“I never knew you ate so much,” Freddie admitted.
“You look like you’d eat a tiny serve, like Dom,” James agreed.
“Oi! I do not eat a tiny serve!”
“Why?” I asked, swallowing my mouthful.
“You’re as skinny as a twig,” Dom grinned.
“Well, I exercise and I like my food,” I said, stuffing more pancakes in my mouth. They all laughed.
I had no idea at what the boys were having a go at me for food, because when they loaded up their plates, there was enough food to feed a hippogriff, I scoffed at their food as they shovelled food continuously into their mouths. The owls arrived at eight thirty and I received a tiny letter from my parents saying that they expected a good year from me and that they hoped I didn’t disrespect the family name.
So much for family love.
Professor Longbottom came along shortly after, strolling along the Gryffindor table, greeting students with a smile while handing out timetables,
“Ms. Flick, I was very happy with your Herbology grade, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Ancient Runes, Arthimancy and you would like to do Alchemy? Well I’m sure you can handle it. Only dropping Care of Magical Creatures?” Professor Longbottom raised his eyebrows.
“Yes sir,” I nodded in response.
“Well here you are,” he smiled handing me my timetable, and walking off to help other students.
“Nine N.E.W.T’s?” James asked, gazing at his own timetable.
“Yeah,” I said looking at today’s lesson, it wasn’t too bad Arithmany, Charms, double Potions and two spare periods.
“That’s a handful,” James admitted, “Swap, I want to see yours.”
His timetable was basic, Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts and surprisingly, Alchemy.
“You’re doing Alchemy?” I asked, not hiding the tone of surprise in my voice.
“Yes, I do,” James snapped, snatching his timetable back.
“Are you training to be an Auror like your dad and brother?” I asked.
“No,” he replied, his cheeks covered in a slight blush from embarrassment, “I’m doing the right subjects to be a healer if I don’t make it to a professional team.”
“Oh! Me too! Well minus the Quidditch part.”
“Yeah! I’ve always wanted to be a healer!”
“Same! Ever since I first went to St. Mungo’s when I was three to visit my Grandma!”
I smiled, James wasn’t as he was assumed to be, sly, sexy and rude. He was actually really nice and smart and wasn’t all about girls.
“Do you know what you want to specialise in?” I asked.
“Probably sports related injuries, I’m not sure,” James shrugged, “Maybe even a medi-wizard. What about you?”
“No idea,” I replied, “It’s a tough decision.”
“Oi, when do you guys have spares?” Freddie asked, cutting into our conversation and sending me a wink, “I want to go spend some more alone time with you.”
I looked at my timetable blushing slightly from Freddie’s comment, “I’ve got them in two and five today.”
“Two and six,” Dom grinned, at least we’ll have one free together.
“Three and six,” Freddie frowned, “None with you Mae,”
“I know!” I whispered sadly, holding his hand across the table.
“What about you mate?” Freddie asked James.
“Two and five,” he answered.
“You and Mae can hang, if you’re not with Alessandria,” Freddie winked.
“Ha ha, yeah,” he rolled his eyes, “Where is she?”
We all looked around and saw Alessandria, Robyn and Carolyn talking to some other sixth years Mike and Nicolas at the Ravenclaw table over breakfast. It looked as though Alessandria was flirting with Nicolas by her actions of fluttering her eyes and flipping her hair back. James let out a harsh breath.
“Is she flirting?” Freddie asked, his mouth dropping.
“Yeah,” James muttered as he searched his bag for something.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it,” Dom said, “She still likes you better,”
“That’s the problem, she’s always flirting with everyone,” James groaned, “It’s why I broke it off last year.”
That was why? Everyone thought he’d just got bored of her, like he’d done with most of his past girlfriends.
“Any way,” James replied, standing up gloomily, “Anyone need to go back to the common room? I didn’t bring my Transfiguration stuff and I’ve got it first.”
I checked my timetable and my bag and saw that I had actually forgotten my Arithmancy books for first period.
“Yeah, I do” I nodded, rising from the bench, “Dom I’ll meet you there,”
“OK,” Dom agreed, opening her Daily Prophet.
“Bye gorgeous,” Freddie said smiling. I’d almost forgot I was dating him, so I leaned across the table and gave him a kiss,
Walking out of the Great Hall, I could feel all eyes burning into my back, the heat of the stares becoming so uncomfortable that I felt the blush in my cheeks rise once more. It was obvious why the stares were occurring, with my fair amount of cleavage showing and being accompanied by James Potter, people were already believing that the player James Potter was back at it for his last year at Hogwarts.
We walked up through the Entrance Hall and up the first couple of flights of stairs in silence before James spluttered out,
“I lied to you.”
“What?” I asked eyebrow raised in curiosity.
“Last night, when I said that Albus told me about you, I was lying,” James continued, his hand running through his hair, “I remember you when you were in second year and I asked you about Albus that one time.”
Perfect, I hoped everyone had forgotten that ugly second year.
I was shocked, how could anyone, let alone James Potter, remember the embarrassing girl that I used to be? The image I had created for myself now a days clouded the old memories of how people used to see me, allowing me just to be seen as Mae, the attractive sixth year Gryffindor.
“I was hoping no one remembered that part of me,” I blushed darkly, finally being able to splutter my answer, “That was so embarrassing!”
“Well I didn’t,” James replied.
“How do you even remember that stupid event?” I asked.
“It was hilarious, how was I meant to forget it?” James grinned and as we reached the Portrait Hole he looked up at the Fat Lady, clearly saying, “Devil’s Snare.”
“That conversation was so embarrassing,” I muttered, walking through.
“You had split ink all over your skirt,” he laughed.
“That’s what I meant!”
“You were so different compared to all the other girls that talked to me, I guess thats another reason I remembered,” he smiled at me, before walking to his dorm.
For a few seconds I stood there, completely confused with what had just happened, before I shook my head and walked up to my dormitory to swap the books I didn’t need for my Arthimancy books.
What had James said to me? He remembered the ugly girl I used to be, but laughed and smiled about her as if she was the most intriguing person in history. Again, I shook it off and walked back downstairs to find James standing in the same position as this morning, waiting for me.
“I’ve got Transfiguration, Arthimancy is on the way,” he explained simply.
We walked out the portrait hole and down the stairs, with me still lost in my mind, completely and utterly confused. How was so much happening so quickly this year?
“Well, bye,” James said as we reached my Arithmancy classroom.
“Bye, thanks for walking with me,” I smiled, pushing a stray piece of hair from my face.
“No worries,” James nodded, turning on his heel and walking away as I turned to enter my classroom. But before I could open the door, a voice called out to me,
It was James, he was calling to me over his shoulder, a grin on his face as he took in my appearance once more.
“I like the shoes.”
: I hoped you enjoyed this chapter! So James now admits he does know who Mae is without the help of Albus and he remembers the second year Mae. Things move faster in the next chapters and it get better! I'm writing chapter fourteen now and almost jumping out of my skin in excitement!
