--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was woken by the sweet sounds of birds, flying around Hogwarts that I had really missed. My eyes slowly flutter open to see that it was 6:00. Groaning, I rolled over, forcing my eyes shut trying to fall back asleep. I tried to think of something nice to dream of, me and James, snogging. I felt myself smile at the happiness of this idea. We were in the middle of the entrance hall happily kissing, which my dream self thought, was a terrible idea and was worried someone was going to find her like this. She pushed the thought out of her mind.

Suddenly the dream grew ugly, Freddie walked into the Entrance Hall and spotted James and I, his face grew bright red and angry.  He walked quickly over to us and pulled James and me apart, punching James in the face, before stunning him with his wand. I started to scream as he slumped to floor in a heap. Freddie stared at me with a helpless look on his face and yelled,

“HOW COULD YOU MAE? I LOVED YOU SO MUCH AND I FIND YOU WITH MY BEST FRIEND LIKE THIS?! I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST YOU! I LOVED YOU MAE! BUT THE THING I CAN’T BELIEVE IS THAT I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME TOO!”

“I do Freddie! I do! It’s just I love James too!” I screamed back at him.

“But you love him more!” He yelled, his eyes sad.

“No…” I trailed off.

“Yes, you do! I can’t believe I didn’t see through it! It was so bloody obvious now I think about it! I was even going to give you this,” he threw something small on the ground, “but you ripped up my heart, don’t ever talk to me again,” and he turned on his heel and walked away.

I stood there, tears dripping down my face, on to the floor silently. Something though, had caught my eye. The object Freddie had thrown. It was small, but shiny. I walked closer to the tiny thing, and bent down.

I gasped.

It was an engagement ring.

Then I woke up, sweating.

Holy crap, that was vivid. How had I dreamed about that? Was I already feeling bad that I was using Freddie to get closer to James? Ugh! Why did I agree with myself to do this?

I looked at the clock hoping that it was 7:30, but sadly it was only 6:15. So slowly, I pulled myself out of bed and gathered my bathroom things, wand and uniform and stomped into the bathroom. Looking at myself in the mirror, you could tell I’d had a rough night’s sleep. My hair was a knotted mess that could only be saved by a shower, my face had stains of overnight makeup, and my eyes were red rimmed.

I groaned again and threw myself into a hot shower. The hot water stung my body, but in a good way. I washed my hair and used all my skin products just to remove my makeup, then I had to redo it again to make sure my skin was clean. Stepping out of the shower, I grabbed my wand and tapped my hair to dry it. As I stood there completely naked, and I realised I was going to have to look my absolute best every day from now on. No bad days.

Today I picked my uniform extremely carefully, a red lace push-up bra with matching undies, same school uniform but I went without my jumper so both Freddie and James could see my lacy, red bouncing packages. My house tie loose, my shirt was untucked with the top two buttons undone and the bottom two undone to show my pierced belly button and flat stomach, skirt half way up my thighs. I took a long time choosing shoes, I went with some bright cherry red high heels on a platform. My legs were kept bare to show off the great tan I had received from France. I wasn’t even wearing a robe, it was too hot anyway.

My makeup, was small, with foundation, mascara, eyeliner and just a light gold eye shadow. The only big thing was my lips, cherry red to match my shoes.

My hair was simply and elegant, down and wavy but not too curly, with two little plaits coming from the sides back, a fairy braid.

When I was all done, it was about 7:15, so I gave myself one last look in the mirror, and left the bathroom. My normal wake up time was around 7:30 and Dom was always awake before me, so I decided to set up my stuff while waiting for her. I tapped my sheets and they changed to my favourite set, lilac and mint with tons of fluffy pillows. I set up my pictures on my wall (they all moved in and out of the frame to quickly get out of their pj’s.) I then set up my books, parchment, ink and quills on my little area of a desk. Eve and Sasha were now awake and getting ready for school. I was getting really bored waiting for Dom and it was almost 7:30, so I went and shook her awake.

“Dom, wake up!” I said, shaking her shoulders.

“Whaaaat?” she replied groggily, half asleep.

“Dom, it’s almost 7:30,” I said standing up.

“WHAT?” Dom sat up, “seven thirty?” she looked at her watch.

“Yeah,” I said, adjusting mine.

“Oh shit!” Dom quickly was running round the room grabbing her bathroom stuff, makeup, clothes and rushed into the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later she came back and sat on her bed, looking at shoes.

“Ugh! I look horrible today!” she shrieked as Eve and Sasha left the dorm.

“Don’t worry, let me help,” I tapped her hair and it smoothed out into her normal long wavy layers. I then quickly applied her makeup, minimal.

“Thanks, but I have no shoes! My sister must have taken them out before I left!” she said angrily. Dom’s sister Victorie, was twenty and had already left Hogwarts.

“It’s fine Dom! Borrow a pair of mine!” I yelled over her worried mumbles.

I thrust a cute pair of gold stilettos in her hands and she looked at them open mouthed.

“Seriously? I can wear these?” she asked, gazing at them.

“Yeah, go ahead. Gold’s not really my colour anyway,”

She smiled and actually looked at what I was wearing for the first time today.

“Mae, wow,” she said.

I grinned.

“Are you doing this for Freddie or James?” she asked suspiciously. Dom was the only one I had told about my everlasting crush on James.

“Both, you’ll see,” I winked, and she giggled. Dom looked at her watch while grabbing her handbag and yelled,

“CRAP, I told James and Freddie that we’d meet them in the common room to go down for breakfast five minutes ago,”

I grabbed my bag and she pulled me out the dorm.

When we reached the common room, it was pretty deserted. Breakfast started at around seven o’clock and finished at eight forty-five, fifteen minutes before classes started. James and Freddie hadn’t left without us and were waiting near the fire, leaning against the chairs talking. As soon as they saw us, Freddie’s mouth dropped open and James just stood there staring.

“Hey boys,” I said smiling, walking over and stopping in front of them with Dom.

“Hey,” James whispered.

“Hey gorgeous, you look incredibly sexy,” Freddie said taking my hand. I grinned at him, showing my dazzling white teeth.

“So are we just going to stand here or actually going to go and eat?” I asked.

“Oh, yeah that, let’s go,” James muttered, leading the way out the portrait hole. We followed out Dom and Freddie talking about a party that happened on the holidays, and James walking out in front alone.

“Hang on a sec, I need to ask James something,” I told Freddie, skipping along to walk with James. “Hey,”

“Hi Mae,” he said.

“So, um, when is my prefect rounds?” I asked, trying to make conversation.

“Tonight,” he said quickly.

“Awesome and when’s Quidditch trials?” I asked nervously, I hadn’t taken part in Quidditch at Hogwarts before.

He raised his eyebrow at me, “You play?”

“Duh,”

“What position?”

“Chaser,”

“Well, I’m looking for a new Chaser’s this year,” James was also captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team and possibly the best seeker ever. I’d heard he already had got an offer from the England Quidditch Team to play after he left Hogwarts.

“Sweet!” I said excitedly.

“The trials are on Friday afternoon,” he said excitedly, “I didn’t know you played!”

“Well, I’ve had a couple of injuries,” I admitted, it wasn’t a lie either.

“Ok, well I can’t wait to see you play then,” James smiled. I smiled back with a truly happy feeling, he wanted to see me play!

We had arrived at the Great Hall by now and I could see the food slowly fading away on the Gryffindor table, pigs.

“Quick! Before the food goes!” I shrieked, pulling Freddie towards the table as he appeared with Dom.

We sat down at the table, me and Dom on one side, and Freddie and James on the other. I filled my plate with pancakes and drizzled them with maple syrup, yum. Freddie and James were watching me with confusion.

“What?” I asked, cutting up a piece of pancake and popping it in my mouth.

“I never knew you ate so much,” Freddie admitted.

“You look like you’d eat a tiny serve,” James agreed.

“Why?” I asked, swallowing my mouthful.

“You’re as skinny as a twig,” Dom said.

“Well, I exercise and I like my food,” I said, stuffing more pancakes in my mouth. They all laughed.

I had no idea at what the boys were having a go at me for food, because when they loaded up their plates, there was enough food to feed a hippogriff. I scoffed at their food as they shovelled food continuously into their mouths. The owls arrived at eight thirty and I received a tiny letter from my parents hoping that I made it to Hogwarts ok, along with some of my mum’s lemon slice. Then Professor Longbottom came along with table handing out timetables,

“Ms. Flick, I was very happy with your Herbology grade, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Ancient Runes, Arthimancy and you would like to do Alchemy? Well I’m sure you can handle it. Only dropping Care of Magical Creatures?” Professor Longbottom raised his eyebrows.

“Yes sir,” I said.

“Well here you are,” he said handing me my timetable, and walking off to help other students.

“Nine N.E.W.T’s?” James asked, gazing at his own timetable.

“Yeah,” I said looking at today’s lesson, it wasn’t too bad Arithmany, Charms, double Potions and two spare periods.

“That’s a handful,” James admitted, “Swap, I want to see yours,” handing me his timetable.

His timetable was basic, Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts and surprisingly, Alchemy.

“You’re doing Alchemy?” I asked, not hiding the tone of surprise in my voice.

“Yes, I do,” James said snatching his timetable back.

“Are you training to be an Auror like your dad and brother?” I asked.

“No,” he replied embarrassed, “I’m training to be a healer,”

“Oh! Me too!”

“Really?”

“Yeah! I’ve always wanted to be a healer!”

“Same! The only thing I want more is to be a famous Quidditch player!”

I smiled, James wasn’t as he was assumed to be, sly, sexy and rude. He was actually really nice and smart and wasn’t all about girls.

“Oi, when do you guys have spares?” Freddie asked, “I want to go spend some more alone time with you,”

I looked at my timetable, “Two and five,”

“Two and six,” Dom said smiling at me, at least we’ll have one free together.

“Three and six,” Freddie said sadly, “None with you Mae,”

“I know!” I whispered sadly, holding his hand across the table.

“What about you mate?” Freddie asked James.

“Two and five,” he answered.

“You and Mae can hang, if you’re not with Alessandria,” Freddie winked.

“Ha ha, yeah,” he said, “Where is she?”

We all looked around and saw Alessandria, Robyn and Carolyn talking to some other sixth years Mike and Nicolas. It looked as though Alessandria was flirting with Nicolas. James let out a harsh breath.

“Is she flirting?” Freddie asked.

“Yeah,” James muttered into his bag.

“Don’t worry ‘bout it,” Dom said, “She still likes you better,”

“That’s the problem, she’s always flirting with everyone,” James explained, “It’s why I broke it off last year,”

That’s why! Everyone thought he’d just got bored of her, like he’d done with most of his past girlfriends.

“Any way,” he standing up gloomily, “Anyone need to go back to the common room? I didn’t bring my Transfiguration stuff,”

I checked my timetable and my bag and saw that I had actually forgotten my Arithmancy books for first period. “Yeah, I do” I said rising, “Dom I’ll meet you there,”

“OK,” Dom said, opening her Daily Prophet.

“Bye gorgeous,” Freddie said smiling. I’d almost forgot I was dating him, so I leaned across the table and gave him a snog,

“Bye,”

I walked out of the Great Hall feeling all eyes burning into the back off me. I started to wonder why, then I realised what I was wearing and who I was with. I was showing a fair amount of cleavage and leaving with James Potter. People would be assuming that we were going to go snog in a broom cupboard or something.

We walked up through the Entrance Hall and up the first couple of flights of stairs in silence before James says,

“I lied,”

“What?” I asked.

“Last night, when I said that Albus told me about you,”

“Oh,”

“I remember you when you were in second year,”

Perfect, I hoped everyone had forgotten that ugly second year.

“I was hoping no one remembered her,”

“Well I didn’t,”

I stayed quiet.

“I remember her from when I asked her if she knew where Albus was,”

I was shocked. James Potter remembered me when I was a little ugly kid and was a complete nobody.

“You remember that?” I asked.

“As if it was yesterday, Devil’s Snare,” We had reached the portrait hole.

“That conversation was so embarrassing,” I muttered, walking through.

“You had split ink all over your skirt,” he laughed.

“That’s what I meant!”

“You were so different compared to all the other girls that talked to me, that’s why I remembered,” he smiled at me, before walking to his dorm.

I stood there, confused as anything, before walking up to my dormitory and swapping the books I didn’t need for my Arthimancy books.

What had James said to me? He remember the ugly girl I used to be, but laughed and smiled about her as if she was the most beautiful person in the history of the world. I walked back down, still confused, and found James standing there waiting for me.

“I’ve got Transfiguration, Arthimancy is on the way,” he explained simply.

We walked out the portrait hole and down the stairs, I was confused, utterly confused. I didn’t know what was happening.

“Well, bye” James said as we reached my classroom.

“Bye, thanks for walking with me,” I smiled.

“No worries,” he said, turning on his heel and walking away as I turned to enter my classroom.

“Mae?” he called over his shoulder.

“Yeah?”

“I like the shoes,”
