When I got dressed this morning, I picked out my own clothes. Mummy always does it for me, but today I told her I wanted to do it myself. I think I did a good job. I picked out my pink, polka-dotted dress with one purple sock, and one green one. I was going to wear both purple socks, but could only find one, so I thought green would be good for my other foot.†
We're taking my brother, Dean, to King's Cross, because he's leaving for Hogwarts today. I wish I could go to Hogwarts, but Daddy says I have to wait until I'm eleven. I said that six is close enough, but he still said no. I bet it's because Mum would miss me if I left. I walked downstairs so we could get in the car to go to the station.
"Morning, Darcy," Mummy said as I came into the kitchen.
"Good morning, Mummy! Is it time to go yet?" I think we should have left by now. What if we don't get there in time?
"We still have a good thirty minutes until we need to leave."
"But what if Dean misses the train?"†
"Sweetheart, I promise we'll get there in time, alright?"
"Ok. Could I have some pumpkin juice?"
Mummy gave me some pumpkin juice and toast, then got a pink ribbon to put in my hair. It's dark, like hers, but I have blue eyes like Daddy. I wish I looked like my mum. She has dark hair and big, dark brown eyes. And her name is Padma. That's much prettier than Darcy, I think. When my dad came into the kitchen I ran and gave him a big hug. He gives good hugs, where he picks me up and spins me around.
"Darcy, did Mum give you two different socks on purpose?" he asked when he set me down.
"Actually, Seamus, Darcy dressed herself today. Didn't you?" Mummy said.
"I thought green and purple looked good," I said, frowning and wiggling my toes.
"Of course they do! You look beautiful, Darcy."
He tells me that every day. Sometimes I'm not sure if he means it, or if he just says it because he's my dad. Finally it was time to go. We got Dean's trunk and owl in the car, and went to King's Cross. I was actually going to see the Hogwarts express! I'd heard all about it from my cousins, who were older and were already students at Hogwarts. We walked through the station, and then I saw platforms nine and ten.†
Daddy told me to stay with him, so I held his hand and we ran right through the wall! And as soon as we got through, I saw the train. It was bigger than any of my cousins had told me. Mummy and Daddy said we had to get Dean settled on the train, so Daddy helped him get his trunk and owl so they could send it to Hogwarts. Then Dean came back to say goodbye to us. After I gave him a hug, and made him pinky promise to write me, I looked around at everyone else in the station. Then I saw a boy standing a little ways off, and guess what? He had blue hair!
"Excuse me," I said, pulling on his shirt. He was very tall.†
"Hello," he said, turning around. He had a gold hoop earring in his right ear. "What's your name?"
"Darcy Finnigan. I'm six."
"Hi, Darcy. I'm Teddy Lupin," he said.
"How old are you? I told you how old I was, so now you have to tell me so it's fair."
"Wow! You're old!"†He laughed. "Why do you have blue hair?"
"I'm a Metamorphmagus. I can change how I look."
"So you can change you hair color if I asked you to?"
"Sure. What color would you like it to be?"
"Pink! Pink is better than blue. It's my favorite color."
He closed his eyes for a second, then his hair turned bright pink, just like my ribbon!†
"What do you think?" he asked.
"I love it! I wish I could do that!"
"Teddy, the train is about to leave!" someone called.
"I have to go. I don't want to miss the train," he said.
"My brother's name is Dean Finnigan, and he's starting Hogwarts this year. Maybe you could tell him that I said hi and that I miss him?"
"I'll do that. Goodbye, Darcy!" he said, jogging to get on the train.
"Bye, Teddy!" I called, waving.
After he got on the train, and we watched it pull away. Me, Mummy, and Daddy got in the car to go home. On the way back, I decided I'd write a letter to Teddy, and ask him if he could teach me to turn my hair pink, too.
