Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or Hogwarts.
After the train stopped, Albus, Rose, Mike and Luke got off. They walked for a while, then every one said “Wow!” In front of them, was a huge castle. “Hogwarts.” Someone said.
“Firs' years over here, Firs' years!” Albus looked up and saw Hagrid, the Care of Magical Creatures Professor and Game Keeper. His parents and Rose's parents have known him since a kid and he usually comes over for dinner on Holidays. Hagrid had a few graying hairs and had more wrinkles then last time, but Albus would never think of him being old.
“Hi Hagrid!” Rose and Albus said to him together.
“Hello, Rose. Albus!” Hagrid said back waving.
“You know him?” Mike asked, staring at Hagrid in awe. He had never seen anyone so.....big.
“Yea, He knows are parents well.”
Then The four of them went into one of the small boats. They chose the one closest to Hagrid, and then the boats took off, speeding across the lake. Albus looked at the castle's front doors. All of a sudden, he heard a shriek. The giant squid's head looked up for a moment then pushed one of the boats. The boat Albus was in. Oh god. Seriously? I'm going to be sick Albus thought. He hated riding in boats. Especially boats that have been pushed by a giant squid. He shut his eyes tight as the squid lurched the boat again. He was glad and relieved when they got off.
Then the great doors opened and a professor came out. “I'll take it from here, Hagrid.” the professor said, leading us into the castle. Whoa, that was a big entrance hall. Albus thought. The professor lead them into a small classroom on the left and when every one got in she said. “Welcome to Hogwarts. I am professor Patil, head of Gryffindor House and your transfiguration teacher. Soon I will bring you into the Great hall, where you would be sorted into one of the four houses. They are Gryffindor, Huflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Your houses would be like your home. Good deeds would earn your house house points, misgivings and wrong doings would loose house points. At the end of the year, whichever house has the most points would win the House Cup, A big honor. Now, Lets begin the sorting.” Professor Patil brought them to the Great Hall.
Albus looked around the Great hall. There were four long tables filled with students, and one that was for teachers. There was hundreds of candles floating in the air. Albus looked up and gasped. The ceiling seemed to go off into the heavens. “It's enchanted to look like the sky outside.” Rose said. Now, that was amazing. Albus looked to where professor Patil was standing. Right next to her was a three legged stool. And on top of it was... A hat. Albus knew they were supposed to be sorted by a hat, but Albus thought the hat would be more... nicer. Suddenly, the hat's opened his mouth and starting to....sing. Hogwarts was weirder then Albus imagined. When the hat finished singing, Professor Patil started speaking.
“The Sorting is about to start. When I call your name, come on and put the sorting hat on.” Professor Patil said, gesturing to the frayed, patched old wizards hat.
“Boacon, Marina.” A tall girl with blue eyes and long blond hair went up.
“HUFLEPUFF!” The sorting hat roared. The girl jumped off the stool and ran to the table second to right.
“Cannon, David.” A boy with dark brown hair went up.
After a few more people, and Albus getting more and more nervous, Professor Patil called Luke. After a few more moments, the hat called "GRYFFINODR!" And Luke ran to the farthest table.
“Next, Flatt, John.”
After a few more students, Albus knew he was going to be soon. That didn't cheer him up at all. Sure enough, Professor Patil called “Potter,Albus.” Every one looked up. Great. More people staring at me. He went up and put the hat on.
“Another Potter. Well... You aren't the same as you grandfather or brother. No, much more like your father Harry. I have to say, you would do very well in Slytherin.”
No no no!
“Ah, but you disagree. Much like your father. But Slytherin would do you great--”
The sorting hat stopped talking for a moment. “I see great destiny ahead of you. Dangerous, yes. But great. Very interesting indeed. Good luck Potter. GRYFFINDOR!”
Relief spread through Albus as he walked to the Gryffindor table. Suddenly the whole room felt more welcoming. Though what the sorting hat said did scare him. What did it mean? But he didn't dwell on it. He did it, he was in Gryffindor! And he was going to kill James for making him that worried.
The sorting hat quickly sorted Rose into Gryffindor. With a look of relief on her face, Albus watched her walk to the Gryffindor table.
The sorting hat didn't even reach his head before it shouted “SLYTHERIN!” Malfoy walked to the Slytherin table with a smug look on his face, as if everyone wanted to be in his place right now.
Then there was a few people left. Finally, it was Mike's turn.
"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted almost at once.
Mike sat next to Albus and they continued watching the sorting. Rock and Goyle went with Malfoy at Slytherin, which didn't surprise Albus at all. When the last student (Wooki, Walter) was sorted into Slytherin, The headmaster got up.
“ Hello, I am Professor Henderson, the headmaster of Hogwarts. To the first years, I'd like to say Welcome! To the old comers, Welcome back! I have a few announcements to make, but I am sure all of you are starving and wouldn't listen yet. So let the feast begin!” Everyone clapped. Albus just realized how hungry he was. All of a sudden, the golden platters in front of him filled up the food. Mike said “Wow! Finally! Food!” and dugged in. Albus put everything he could reach on his plate and started eating. Every one started talking, but Albus just listen in. He heard a few sixth years saying some thing.
“Where did he go? And whats she doing here?”
“I don't know. I hope Professor Jackson is alright.”
Albus looked up to where they were pointing too. He didn't see anything unusual, but maybe because he was new. He knew professor Mc. Gonagall retired this year, but everybody should of known that. Plus, they sounded like they were talking about a boy Professor. But Albus didn't feel like being troubled by something like that. Then the deserts came. Albus tried a bit of everything and decided he like the treacle tart and banana cream pudding the best. He was about to ask Mike if he tried the pudding yet when Mike yelled. A ghost's head popped out of the plate Mike was eating out of.
“Oh, I am terribly sorry that I scared you young man. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Sir--.”
“Oh I know who you are! Your Nearly Headless Nick! The Gryffindor ghost!” A boy said.
The ghost looked offended “Yes, but I preferred to known as Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington ”
“Nearly Headless?" A girl asked, ignoring what he just said." How can somebody be Nearly Headless?” The ghost looked really annoyed and offended.
He pulled his left ear and neck partly came off. Rose screamed. Nick smiled for a moment then left. Soon after that, The food disappeared and the headmaster stood up again.
“I hoped you had a good meal. I have a few announcements if all of you could be quiet. Thank you. First off, the forest is off-limits to everyone. I think most of you should of known by now because of it's name, The forbidden forest.” He paused and looked at James for a moment before continuing. “Also The caretaker Flich has added a few more things on his list of things forbidden. That includes the new super dung bombs and exploding mice."
Albus looked at James when he said that. James grinned back and patted his pocket. Albus knew a few students would be doing just that.
“And now. We have something more serious to talk about. I am sure a few of the older student might of noticed how Professor Jackson isn't here tonight. It turns out he dissapered.. The ministry is currently searching for him. But in till they find him, he would be replaced by Professor Yoki.”
The witch that the older kids were pointing to earlier stood up. Her hair was pulled up into a tight bun and she had a hawk- like face. She wore the most formalist Dress robes Albus has ever seen and looked pretty strict. There was a few people clapping, but most of them just stared at the professor.
“Umm, well yes. I hoped you had a good night. First years, follow the prefects to your common room.” After professor Henderson finished talking, everyone stood up and started walking to the doors. Albus and Mike caught up with Luke and Rose.
“Who would want to kidnap a Professor?” Mike asked.
“Don't ask me, I don't know.” Luke replied.
“I think my dad might of said something about it.” Albus said scratching his head.
“What did he say?”
“Don't ask me either, I can't remember.” Albus grumbled. All he wanted to do is sleep. He longed for the soft four poster bed up in his dorm.
Luke changed the subject. "So.. What did the sorting hat say to you guys?"
Albus paled. He would much rather talk about the missing professor than tell his friends that he might of been put in Slytherin. Plus, what the hat said freaked him out alot.
Rose told them about her sorting.
“ 'Another Weasley. Also much like your mother. Ravenclaw wouldn't be so bad...'
"But I'm sure you would want to be with your cousins. GRYFFINDOR!' ”
Rose laughed. "I got lucky didn't I?"
So did I... Albus thought.
Luke thought for a moment. "My sorting was weird, compared to yours."
“Ah...” The sorting hat said as Luke sat down. “Interesting. I only sorted one boy who was like you... ah, but not exactly...”
Just hurry up. I bet they are starting to stare at me.
“Oh are they? Well I will try to be fast. It's just you are a little more difficult than others.”
I don't care. I just want you to hurry. “
Patient. Hmm. Yes .... Interesting....Well that must mean you should be in GRYFFINDOR! "
Luke looked at his friends. "Well, what do you reckon?"
Rose and Mike shrugged. "Sorting is like that sometimes." Rose said.
Mike laughed and repeated exactly what happened when he got sorted.
"So I walked up and put the hat on my head." Mike started....
''Ahh.. Much easier to place. Yes, braveness, loyalty, a thirst for adventure. Reminds me a lot of another student many years ago. I have to say, you are much different then your sister. She suited Slytherin much more than you.
Really? Is that a good thing?
Yes. I guess...Well then you should be in GRYFFINDOR!' "
Every one laughed. “Looks like I was 'Much easier to place ' Than you guys!” Mike said, laughing again.
Rose then turned to Albus. "Soo... What was your sorting like?"
Albus looked around desperately. He tried to think of a way not to answer that question.
"Albus? Are you feeling alright?" Rose asked, now concerned.
“Uh yeah...” Albus said. “Um, I..”
They were interrupted by a woman's voice.
Albus looked up. They, along with the rest of the First years had reached a big portrait of a fat lady wearing a pink dress.
“Coming through, coming through” Albus's cousin, Roxanne, pushed through the group of people. “Where did those prefects go?” She muttered to herself. “The password's `Pig's Snout'.”
The fat lady nodded and opened up.
Albus climbed through the portrait hole with everyone else. Roxanne turned to them.
“ This is the Gryffindor common room. The Girl's dorm is to the right, boys to the left. Now to kill those prefects for....” The last part she said to herself while she walked away.
Albus climbed up the stairs to the boy's dorm in till he came to a door on the top of the tower with a sign that read first years. He walked inside and found all his stuff already under the bed closest to the window. He sat on his bed and changed, then he drew his curtains around his bed and went to sleep. Right before he closed his eyes he thought about what the sorting hat had said to him. Be he shook it off his mind as sleep overtook him.
