Ever since the war things hadn’t been the same at Hogwarts.
The golden trio were now closer than ever. Hermione was falling for that weasel. Harry and Ginny were happier than ever and Draco, who had moved out of his parents’ house and lived at the leaky cauldron at the holidays, was falling for Hermione.
It was during potions that Draco noticed her crying, at first he thought it was just because of the fumes from the potion they were brewing but eventually he noticed that they were really genuine tears. He had never, in his whole life at Hogwarts, seen Hermione cry before. He was completely dumbstruck. He wanted to make sure she was okay but he wasn’t sure how to go about it. Luckily Neville was at the cauldron across from Hermione and had managed to knock over her jar of mistletoe berries.
“Oh! Hermione! I’m so sorry, let me-“
“Don’t worry Neville, I’ve got them,”
Hermione dropped to her knees and began scooping up the berries. Draco, who was at the table beside her, dropped down next to Hermione and helped her pick up the berries.
“Uhm, tell me if I’m entering personal space, but are you crying?” he whispered
Heroine slowly looked up at Draco, his pale grey eyes locking with her brown ones. For just a moment they both felt like they were in a parallel world, with no one else but themselves. Hermione was the first to drop her gaze, but Draco lingered for a moment longer.
“I’m fine, Malfoy,” at this point she wiped her face with the sleeve of her robe and carried on picking up berries.
“Y’know granger, things change, people change. You know where to find me if you need to talk.”
Draco stayed on his knees for a second more before placing a folded piece of parchment next to her hand; he stood up and walked away.
Hermione was alone in the library when she remembered the piece of parchment, she found it in her pocket and slowly unfolded it not sure what was going to happen,
I find the Astronomy Tower is a good place to think.
It was a warm night and the stars were shining. Draco was leaning over the edge of the tower when he heard the door click shut.
“Oh, sorry I’ll just go…”
“Don’t worry granger, there’s room for two,”
“How did you even know it was me, you haven’t even turned round.”
Draco turner and looked at Hermione,
‘’I’ve been coming here every night since first year, no one else comes up…’’
Hermione stood at the door staring at Draco in amazement. The way the moon light hit his face at just the right place accenting his lips and his steel grey eyes. The way it shone across his ruffled hair, she had never seen him like this before, so relaxed.
‘’why did you leave me that note, Malfoy?’’
‘’oh, getting a bit nervous are we?’’
Hermione could feel her face burning with embarrassment, never in her life had she been called nervous.
‘’no.’’ she snapped back defensively
‘’look, granger, I just want to make sure you were okay, you seemed upset about something...’’ Draco knew he was walking on thin ice by saying this.
‘’I’m perfectly fine, thank you very much!’’
She dropped Draco’s gaze and stared at her feet.
Draco took a few steps towards her, he stopped when she looked up at him with tears streaming down her face, and she dropped her gaze once more and took in a deep breath. He took the last three steps towards her and slowly wrapped his arms around her. She dropped all her defences that she had built over the years and collapsed into him, wrapping her arms around him.
They stood holding onto each other for at least half an hour, until Hermione couldn’t cry any longer, she slowly stepped back from him, her hands lingering on his warm body, Draco looked into her huge eyes and with the sleeve of his jumper wiped the tears from her face. A small smile slowly spread across her face.
‘’thank you.’’ She whispered
She dropped her hands by her side, gave him one last smile and turned to walk towards the door, she stopped in her tracks almost instantly when she saw Ron standing at the door.
