“James?” The voice of Mrs Potter said behind me. James hand ripped out of mine as he turned and was engulfed in a hug by his parents.

“Mrs Potter, Mr Potter!” I turned to give both of James parents a hug; they smiled at me, Mr Potter’s eyes traveling down to the ring on my left hand. My hand twitched slightly as though it was rejecting the gaze.

“Please Lily, call me Charlus!” He laughed a pulled me into a hug, “It’s good to see you, looking as gorgeous as ever I see.”

“Lily, its Dora! When you call me Mrs. Potter I feel about a hundred years old,” She laughed and hugged me tightly. When she let go I felt James put his hands around my waist and I leaned into his chest, he kiss the top of my head, “Gorgeous speeches you guys, very proud of both you”

“CHARLUS AND DORA!” Sirius’ voice boomed from across the room, seconds later he had bounded over to us and engulfed his adopted parents in a massive bear hug. Wriggling my way out of James’ grip I craned my neck to find parents. I spotted them near the entrance to the Great Hall.

“I see my parents so I will see you all later,” I turned away from the group of people to make my over to my parents only to be stopped by James’ arms that had grabbed my waist again. He opened his mouth to ask me something but I shook my head, “Let me see them first then we can tell them together okay?” He just nodded and kissed me. After receiving a cat call from Sirius I made my way over to my parents.

“We’re so proud of you Lils” my mother pulled me into a hug squeezing me tight, “you speech was gorgeous”

“Thanks mum but there’s actually some things I need to tell you” I looked between my mother and father noticing they were no longer looking at me. Turning around I saw Professor Dumbledore waving his wand from the stage. He was spelling out the words ‘Dinner is served on the seventh floor’ in big sparkling letters. I laughed under my breath at the extravagates of my headmaster.

“Dinner?” my mother said, “With that funny pumpkin juice that you bought for us that one time?” I nodded my head and my father smiled to show his pleasure. I had bought them some after a trip to Diagon Alley once; dad loved it although mum didn’t.

“Where’s James?” my father asked craning his head over the crowd to try and find my boyfriend, “I miss males being around. He and his friend Sirius?” I nodded at his question, “Yes, James and Sirius were very funny over Christmas. He’s a nice boy Lils,”

“I know that dad,” I laughed and shook my head slightly. Dad and James had got along very well when he visited the day before Christmas last year. It was the first time my parents had met a boyfriend of mine and they were so happy it was someone like James who had manners, although Sirius did come too. They were less impressed with him but my father loved them both, “He’s with his own parents at the moment but we’re on the same table for Dinner so you can sit near him”

My parents nodded as I led them out of the Great Hall and up towards the seventh floor. They were amazed by Hogwarts; the size, the paintings that moved, they moving staircases and most of all by the fact that they had never been here before. In all the years I had come here and they had never needed to visit mum had said. We were almost at the seventh floor when James, Sirius and his parents had caught up to us. Dora and Charlus shook the hands of my parents, Dora didn’t say anything about the engagement to my surprise, and they all started talking; my parents mostly asking questions about the greater wizarding world.

“I asked mum and dad not to say anything yet, until we told them that is,” James whispered in my ear sending shivers down my spine, “you okay?” he asked me before wrapping an arm around my waist.

“Yeah,” I told him leaning into him slightly, “Just worried about what mum’s going to say,”

“She’ll be thrilled,” he whispered in reply kissing the top of my head. I noticed that our parents were now looking for our table, “come on then,” James said grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the table that seated twelve. James sat down and me next to him. My dad took the seat next to James, Charlus next to him, Dora next him, my mother next to her, then Pete’s mother, Pete himself, Remus and his dad, then Remus’ mother and next to me was Sirius. My mother and Pete’s mum immediately struck up a conversation about homemade recipes, James was pulled into a discussion about televisions by Charlus and dad, Remus’ parents, Maria and Joe, were talking to Remus and Pete about after school jobs so Sirius turned to me.

“Told your parents yet?” He said, his eyes shifting down to my ring.

“Nope,” I said the word popping on the ‘p’ before taking a sip of my pumpkin juice, “I don’t know how I’m supposed to”

Sirius looked over to my mum talking lively about homemade mince pies, “She’ll be happy for you. Your parents, they fit in well with us” I gave a look around the table at all the parents talking and smiled.

“They do don’t they,” Sirius only gave me a quick one armed hug because they food had appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the table. There were gasps from my parents who, once again, looked amazed at the magic of Hogwarts.

The meal went on happily as people talked and laughed as they ate the food that was prepared by the house elves. Once I had finished my plate disappeared and I sat watching James and my father lightly arguing about which was better; football or Quidditch. James’ hand was on my knee when a bit of my mother’s conversation caught my ear.

“My eldest just got engaged a couple of weeks ago to a lovely young man,” my mother had said to Dora and Peter’s mum, Christina.

“That’s lovely,” Dora said taking a sip from you goblet.

“Wow, two engagements in one month,” Christina said also taking a sip from her goblet.

“I’m sorry,” my mother said looking confused. At this point I already knew what was going to happen but I found myself unable to move, “I don’t follow?”

“I only mean that your eldest and Lily are both engaged at the same time,” Christina said in a light tone.

“What?” Oh no. James and my dad had turned to watch the conversation happening between the women, “Lily’s not engaged- “ My mother looked over to me as I tried to slide my left hand under the table.

“Mum,” Peter whispered to his mum, “I told you not to say anything,”

“I’m so sorry Lily, I forgot,” she said to me. I didn’t turn my head to her or answer as my mother starred at me for a moment.

“This true Lily?” she said in a quiet tone that I almost didn’t hear her. I nodded very slowly as James’ hand became tighter on my leg, “Well- um, please excuse me I need some air,” with that my mother got up, weaved her way around the tables before exiting through the door.

“Sorry,” my dad said to everyone before getting up and following her out the door. I sat there as all eyes were on me. I turned to James who was looking at me and tried to smile.

“I have to go and talk to her,” I said as I got up. He went to follow but I stopped him,

“Let me go by myself okay,” I leant down and kissed him lightly on the lips before following my parents out into the corridor.
