This can't be true. I thought to myself as Madam Pomfrey gently patted my back and walked away.
I had just come for a little check up. I hadn't been feeling well lately and I thought I had the flu or something. But no, no flu. She had told me I was pregnant. Me, Vivienne Setori, Head Girl at Hogwarts. This can't be true.
I walked back to the Head's common room thinking about how horrible this was, but that it could be worse. I mean at least I know who the Father is. It's Draco Malfoy, Head Boy of Hogwarts. Two years ago I had done what the girls of Hogwarts thought was impossible. I tamed Draco Malfoy and made him stay faithful to only me.
Not that I took all the credit, it was Draco who persued me. Now, we were in love. I couldn't imagine my life without him, and I wanted to spend the rest of it with him. After school, we're planning on moving in together. Then we would get married and have kids.
Would having kids before all of that ruin everything?
I sat on my bed staring blankly at the book in my lap. I hadn't read a single word for the past hour. How could I focus on anything at all?
Draco walked in and threw his bag on the floor. "Hey, babe." He said as he loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt.
"Hi." I said forcing a smile. How exactly do I tell him that I'm pregnant without him flipping out?
"What are you doing?" He asked coming over to me.
"Reading." I lied.
"Not anymore you're not." Draco grabbed the book and threw it over his shoulder. I should tell him right now. Oh, how did this happen?
He kissed me and layed me down on the bed and removed my clothes. Right, this is how it happened.
Afterwards, I'm smiling, looking up at the ceiling. Draco's arm is draped across my stomache, and he's gently kissing my neck. "Did you see Madam Pomfrey?" He asked.
"Um, yeah." I answered quietly, the smile leaving my face.
"So, what's wrong?" He asked. "It can't be too serious since you can still make amazing love to me."
I sat up and turned away from him. I couldn't do this. What if he left me?
"Viv, what's wrong?" Draco asked also sitting up and wrapping his arms around me from behind. "Are you really sick or something?"
"Draco, I'm not sick at all." I said, my voice breaking. "I'm-the reason I've been throwing up and been eating weird stuff is because I'm pregnant." I cried.
"What?" He asked.
"I'm pregnant, Draco. Almost three months." I felt his arms leave me. I heard him sigh. "In case you're getting some crazy idea, it is yours." I said.
"I know!" He said. "I know...fuck this all my fault."
"It takes two." I said turning around to face him.
"I know, but-uh what are we going to do?" He asked.
"I want to keep it." I whispered. "If you don't want any part in this, that's fine-"
"What, Viv, no." Draco. "You think I'm going to leave you because of this? Who cares if we're having kids sooner than planned? I love you. And that's never going to change, understand?"
I smiled. "Yes I understand. What I don't understand is how this happened. We were always careful, weren't we?"
Draco sighed. "I know how it happened." He said. "One night...it broke."
"It broke?!" I asked. "You never said anything about it?"
"I didn't want to unless I had to. I watched you for the next few weeks, and you seemed all right, so I thought everything was fine. I'm sorry."
"No, it's not your fault." I assured him. "It's no one's fault, it just happened."
"You realize we have to tell our parents now, right?" He asked.
I sighed deeply. "Yes, I've realized that. This is going to be a disaster. They don't even know we're together."
"I know. Oh, my parents are going to kill me."
The next day we wrote our parents. We didn't tell them who we were dating, just that we were going to be having a baby. That evening, I received a Howler from my Mother.
"VIVIENNE ELANOR SETORI! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! I RAISED YOU BETTER THAN THIS. RUNNING AROUND HOGWARTS SLEEPING WITH RANDOM BOYS AND GETTING PREGNANT. I THOUGHT YOU HAD MORE RESPECT FOR YOURSELF. YOU'RE HEAD GIRL FOR MERLIN'S SAKE! DOES THAT MEAN NOTHING TO YOU? YOU HAVE RUINED YOUR LIFE! HOW DO YOU EXPECT TO GET A JOB WHEN YOU'RE SEVENTEEN AND PREGNANT?! THIS IS NOT OVER, WE WILL DISCUSS THIS MORE WHEN YOU RETURN HOME FOR HOLIDAYS. BRING THE BOY WHO DID THIS TO YOU."
The Hall around me was silent. "You're pregnant?!" My best friend Pansy Parkinson asked.
The rest of the Hall broke out in talking. The Gryffindors were shaking their heads at me. The Hufflepuffs were giving me sympathetic looks. The Ravenclaws were pointing. The the Slytherins (my house) were just talking loudly about me.
"Yeah." I answered Pansy. "I am."
"When were you going to tell me?" She asked.
"Look we just found out yesterday, all right?" Draco stepped in.
"Draco, you're the Father." She said.
"Of course I am, who else would be?" He asked.
"I'm not going to answer that." Pansy laughed. "This is insane. You're supposed to be the good girl."
"That's apparently what my parents think too." I said. "They're freaking out, and Draco they want to meet you. What are we going to do?"
"We'll figure it out once my parents write back, love." He said kissing my forehead.
Later that night, Draco received a letter from his parents. Not a Howler, his parents clearly weren't as upset as mine. It merely said they wanted to meet me and sort out this whole ordeal.
"So, now what do we do?" I asked.
"We'll have my parents meet us at your house." Draco answered.
"Are you sure you don't want to do it in a more...public place? You know so our parents don't kill us. Or eachother."
The reason why we're so worried about our parents meeting is because they hate eachother. There's always been a rivalry between them, I'm not really sure why.
I still remember the first time I saw Draco. Mum specifically told me to stay away from him, because he was bad news. I listened for four years, and now I'm pregnant with his child.
Draco told me his parents told him to stay away from me too. But that's what eventually made him want me, now we're in love. We haven't told our parents about eachother for the past two years, and now we were about to tell them under the worst circumstances.
The next few weeks brought a few changes. I started having mood swings, one minute I was happy, the next I was crying about how fat I would be in the next few months. I started eating even weirder things. One night I had mixed ketchup with banana cream pudding. Everyone looked at it in disgust, but it tasted delicious to me.
Before Draco and I knew it, it was winter holidays, and we were setting out to my house. "I'm so nervous." I said the night before leaving.
"Don't be. The stress can't be good for the baby." Draco said lifting up my shirt and kissing my stomache. I hadn't even started showing yet, just a tiny baby bump.
I smiled. "Look at you, all worried about our baby."
"I just want it to be perfect. Just like it's Mother." He smiled up at me.
"I'd rather it take after it's Father." I said. "I love you."
"I love you too." Draco said fully getting on top of me and kissing me. "Wait is this okay? I'm not crushing the baby am I?" He asked.
"The baby is fine." I said. "It's Mother on the other hand is in need of a little love making."
"Funny, so is Father."
We waited paitently in my living room for my parents to come down. We had Flooed from Hogwarts only five minutes before. I had yelled to let them know we were there. Now,we were waiting. I had Draco's hand in a death grip.
Finally I heard their footsteps. As they walked into the room, we stood. I went over to hug them.
"Hi Daddy." I said hugging him.
"Hi, pumpkin." He said said.
"Mum." I said giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Vivienne, sweetie, I'm so sorry about the Howler." She said. "I was just a little upset."
"It's okay, Mum, I understand." I said.
"All right, so where is the Father of my grandchild?" She asked. I stepped aside and watched as looks of horror appeared on their faces as they recognized Draco.
"Vivienne, is this some sort of joke?" Mum asked. "Because it isn't funny."
"No, Mum it's not a joke." I said as I went over to Draco and grabbed his hand. "Draco is the Father of my child. And we've been seeing eachother for the past two years."
"Seeing eachother where?" Dad asked.
"Daddy, you know what I mean. We've been dating." I said.
"Why?" Mum asked. "I want to know why my daughter went against what I said and got involved with this boy."
"I didn't do it on purpose, Mum. It just-it just happened!" I exclaimed.
"Calm down." Draco whispered. "Remember, stress is bad for the baby." He cleared his throat. "Mr. and Mrs. Setori, if I may say something, this is all my fault."
"What did you do to my daughter?" Dad demanded.
"Nothing." Draco said quickly. "Well, something obviously, but...all I did was love her."
"No, you tricked her!" Mum said. "You made her think you loved her just so you could get her in bed, and then you got her pregnant."
"Mum, that is not what happened!" I shouted. "We fell in love, all right?"
Before she could answer the fireplace lit up, and Draco's parents came our of the fireplace, dusting debris off their clothes. Perfect timing.
"Mother, Father." Draco said letting go of my hand and walking up to them. They hugged briefly, and then turned to me and my parents. The shock and hate was very present in their eyes.
"Draco, why are we here?" Mr. Malfoy asked in disgust.
"Because your son knocked up my daughter." Dad said.
"Dad, really?" I asked in exasperation.
"Draco is that true?" Mrs. Malfoy asked. "You got this Setori girl pregnant?"
"Yes, Mother, it is true." Draco answered.
"Draco you told us you got a smart, beautiful, respectable girl pregnant." Mr. Malfoy said.
"Excuse me, but my daughter is all of those things." Mum said. "If your son hadn't come along and ruined her life, this whole situation could have been avoided."
"Oh, please, Charlotte. I think we all know it was your daughter who threw herself at my son. I told him to stay away from her." Mrs. Malfoy said in a cold tone.
"I told Vivienne to stay away from your son, Narcissa. Clearly, he has no regard for rules." Mum countered.
"How dare you-"
"No, Mother, she's right." Draco interupted. "It was me who persued Viv."
"Draco, we told you to stay away." Mr. Malfoy scolded.
"I know, but that only made me want her more. We've been dating for the last two years. I asked her out." He clarified.
Mum opened her mouth to speak, but I beat her to it. "And I said yes." I said. "We both made our own choices. No one forced anyone else to do anything."
"Exactly." Draco said, grabbing my hand again. "Mother, Father, I love her."
"Mum, Daddy. I love him." I said.
"Very well." Mr. Malfoy said. "Is there a place where we can speak to our son?"
"The kitchen." Dad said. All the Malfoys went to the kitchen.
"I'm sorry Mum. I didn't mean to fall in love with him." I whispered.
She sighed. "Well, you did anyways." She walked out of the room.
"I'll go see about your Mum." Dad said. "She'll come around soon, pumkin."
"Does that mean you've come around?" I asked.
"I don't like it, but yes, I accept it." He kissed the top of my head and walked out too.
I wasn't sure what to do then. But I didn't like being in the room alone. I decided to check on Draco. I pressed my ear to the kitchen door.
"Draco, you don't have to go through with this." Mr. Malfoy said. "You can let her deal with it, and we could pay her as compensation."
"You think I'm going to pay off my girlfriend just so I don't have to take care of the baby I helped make?" Draco asked in disbelief. "No way!"
"Draco, you must think this through." Mrs. Malfoy pleaded. "Think of all you could accomplish if you got out of this. You could have a much better life."
"No, I couldn't." He said. "What I do with my life is my choice. And even if I hadn't gotten Vivienne pregnant, I was still going to spend the rest of my life with her. So, I'm not turning my back on her or our baby."
I could hear his footsteps, so I quickly made my way back to the living room. "Viv?" He asked walking into the living room.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"I'm not going anywhere." He said.
"I know." I whispered. Draco wrapped me in a hug.
Draco and I returned to Hogwarts ready to face anything. Draco was there for me when I needed him. A few months later, we went to see Madam Pomfrey to find out the sex of the baby.
"Hmm that's odd." She said.
"What?" Draco asked quickly.
"I seem to sense two heart beats." She said.
"Our baby has two hearts?!" Draco asked.
Madam Pomfrey laughed. "Of course not. There are two babies."
"Two babies?" I asked.
"Vivienne, you're pregnant with twins." She said smiling.
"Twins?!" Draco and I chorused.
"Yep. Fraternal twins. A boy and a girl."
Draco and exchanged looks. Things had gotten a tiny bit more complicated.
"Maybe this isn't so bad." I said later that night.
"It isn't bad at all." Draco said. "Just shocking and overwhelming."
"You're right. In fact, this is great, a boy for you and a girl for me." I said smiling. "We should start picking out names."
"I want to pick the boy's name." Draco said.
"And I'll pick out the girl's." I replied.
A few days later, we had come up with names. "Okay, I've decided on Scorpius for our little boy." Draco said.
"Okay. I had a few names, but after hearing yours, I've decided on one. Scarlett." I said.
"Scorpius and Scarlett." He said. "I love it."
"Oh, me too!"
He rubbed my stomache, smiling. "Hello, Scorpius and Scarlett. I'm your Dad." He whispered.
My head drooped to the side as I started dozing off.
Being pregnant wasn't easy, but Draco was there every step. He was there through the vomiting, weird food cravings, mood swings, me getting fat, midnight food runs, the first kicks, and especially the sex cravings. He made things ten times easier.
The week before the babies were due, our parents came to stay with us, so they could be there for the births. They still weren't thrilled about us being together, but they didn't complain about it so much anymore.
One night I was headed up to Draco's room, when I heard him talking to his parents.
"-you're saying you'll pay her if I decide to walk away?" Draco asked.
"Yes, the offer still stands." Mr. Malfoy said.
"Maybe I can't handle this." Draco said. "I mean one baby, sure, but two babies, I can't deal with that."
I thought he had been happy that we were having twins. Sure he hadn't been excited as he usually was lately, but I assumed he was nervous about the birth.
"And Viv will probably be so much better without me." He continued. "I'm not ready to be a Father to twins, I'm only seventeen."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Draco said he wasn't going anywhere, and now he was backing out. But could I blame him? This was a lot to handle. If I had the chance, would I walk away too? Maybe. But that didn't make it hurt any less.
"So, you'll walk away then?" Mrs.Malfoy asked.
"Yes." Draco answered.
Draco walked into my room looking nervous. "Viv, we have to talk."
"I know." I said. "I know you want out of this."
"You heard?" He asked.
I sighed. "Yes."
"I'm sorry, I just...I can't raise twins. I'm not ready."
"I know." I whispered. "I don't blame you. If I had the choice, I might walk away too."
"It's not that I don't want our babies." He said. "It's just that..."
"Two is one too many?" I asked. He nodded.
"And I think you'll be better off without me." Draco said. "But I do want to be involved, just not fully. I'm not sure how that will work."
"Lucky for the both of us, I have thought of a plan that better suits us both." I said. "We each take a twin to raise on our own, until they're old enough to be told the truth. Then, we'll figure something out."
Draco thought for a moment. "Well, that's not a bad idea."
"Why don't you think it over, talk to your parents about it and then get back to me?"
"All right." He said.
"All right, if you need me, I'll be sleeping on the couch, considering the circumstances..." I trailed off.
"Viv, don't be silly. I'll sleep on the couch." Draco said. I nodded and he walked out of the room.
I cried myself to sleep that night. I had lost Draco. I was foolish for thinking he'd actually stay. It was only a matter of time before his parents would convince him he was making a mistake by staying with me. Better now then later when the babies were born, I guess.
The next day, Draco told me that he agreed with my plan. We decided he'd get Scorpius and I would get Scarlett. Was I insane for thinking he might actually tell me to forget the whole idea and say that he was staying instead? Yes, I suppose I was.
Draco continued to sleep on the couch, and I continued to cry myself to sleep every night. Pansy says that's probably not good for the babies, but I couldn't help it. Mine and Draco's parents were happy with what we had decided to do, at least someone ended up happy.
I was in Potions when it happened. I had been having contractions all day, and I felt like I was dying. It was when I was putting my finished potion in a flask when I felt the sticky substance trickling down my leg. It took me a moment to realize what was happening.
I dropped the flask as I felt the most painful contraction. I hunched over in pain. "Vivienne, what's wrong?" Pansy asked.
"My water broke." I said though the pain.
"What?! Oh, no what do we do?!" She exclaimed.
"Miss Parkinson, is there something you would like to share?" Professor Snape asked.
"Vivienne's water broke!"
"Oh, no." He said.
The other students started freaking out too. Shouting about what to do, and I was getting irritated. Obviously what we needed to do was get Draco, get our parents and get me to the hospital wing.
"HEY!" I shouted. Everyone became silent. "You," I pointed to Blaise Zabini "Go get Draco and tell him my water broke."
"You." I pointed to a random Ravenclaw. "Go get mine and Draco's parents and tell them my water broke."
"You two." I pointed to Pansy and her boyfriend Theodore Nott. "Get me to the hospital wing NOW!"
All at once everyone was moving, and again shouting. Pansy and Theordore were carrying me to the hospital wing. "You're heavy!" Theodore said.
I felt quite insulted. "You try carrying two babies and see if you're as light as a fucking feather!"
"Sorry." He grumbled.
Pansy started freaking out again, half way there. "How did this happen?! Oh, Vivienne, you and Draco should have been more careful-"
"Pansy, shut up! You're pregnant too!" I yelled.
A look of horror came on both of their faces, but they said nothing. Finally we reached the hospital wing. "What's wrong?" Madam Pomfrey asked.
"I'm going into labor!" I cried.
They laid be on a bed and let Madam Pomfrey take over. "Okay, sweetie, just breathe he-he-hoo."
"I don't want to breathe, I want these babies out!" I shouted.
"Breathe!" She insisted.
"Oh, all right. He-he-hoo." Draco came running in looking very pale.
He ran over to me, grabbing my hand. "Vivienne, sweetie, are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm breathing!" I said as I continued this breathing thing.
"Why is she just breathing?" Draco asked.
"That's all she needs to do. You let me take care of this." Madam Pomfrey said.
"Okay, okay." Draco said wringing his hands nervously. Our parents finally came.
"How are you doing, honey?" Mum asked.
"I'm breathing!" I replied.
"Should we get her some ice chips?" Mum asked Madam Pomfrey.
"Oh, yes, here they are."
Mum handed be bowl of ice chips. I started shoving them in my mouth. Draco reached for some too, and I slapped his hand away. "Get your own!"
After five minutes of horrible contractrions, screaming my head off and breathing, I threw the bowl of ice chips across the room. "Please get these babies out of me!" I cried.
Draco grabbed my hand. "Babe, everything is going to be all right, just a few more minutes, okay?"
I didn't reply, I just kept breathing. The pain was almost unbearable. But just like everything else, having Draco there made it easier.
After eight hours of labor and me screaming at Draco "I hate you, you did this to me!" Two beautiful babies were born, and I was exhausted and starving. I finally got some food, and some sleep.
When I woke up, I saw Draco holding Scarlett. "I'm sorry." He whispered. "I'm sorry I won't be there. But you and Mummy will be better off without me. Just know that I love you so much. And your Mummy, well I love her just a tiny bit more, but don't be mad. You're going to be beautiful and smart and perfect just like Mummy. And everyday until I see you again, I'm going to miss you both with all my heart."
Tears filled up in my eyes. I actually thought he didn't love me anymore. I was so wrong. So why wouldn't he stay?
A few days later, I was out of the hospital wing, and it was the last day of school, also the last time I would see Draco and Scorpius, until it was time again.
"So when are we going to tell them?" Draco asked.
"In eleven years when they're about to go off to school." I said. "We can't take the risk of them being just like us, and fall for eachother the way we did."
"Okay, then." He said. He looked down in his arms, where Scarlett lay asleep. I looked down in my own arms where Scorpius was asleep.
"Take care of my little boy." I whispered.
"And you take care of my little girl." He whispered back. We switched babies. I was blinking back tears.
"Well, see you in eleven years, I guess." I said as we put the babies in their strollers.
"Yeah, I guess you will." He said.
I hugged him, strongly resisting the urge to beg him to stay and tell him I loved him. Suddenly he kissed me and gave me a half smile. "Good luck, Viv." Draco said.
"You too Draco." I said. I turned and started walking away, pushing Scarlett's stroller. I walked slowly, hoping maybe Draco would stop me and say this was a mistake. But nothing. I reached the end of the hall, and turned, he was still there. I gave a small wave and kept going.
I guess I really would have to wait eleven years to see him. I knew I would miss him every single day until then.
