She didn’t say anything for a few minutes before trying again, “Draco?”
I raised my eyebrows so she knew I was listening and she smiled.
“I want to say something,” she began, “I shouldn’t have jumped on you like that but I’m glad I did.”
She was looking at her feet and blushing a little and a smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
“Me too,” I said getting up, “I’m going to bed I’ll see you in the morning.”
She was a deep scarlet color as she got up from the couch and we both went upstairs to our separate rooms. I was lying in bed tossing and turning not sure of what the events of this evening had meant. Did she kiss me because I happened to show up to help, did she have feelings for me, and the confusion was keeping me up. Unfortunately I did not actually get much time to really ponder because within an hour of going to bed I heard her screaming but after our exchange I thought it would be okay to go and try to comfort her for once. I quietly left my room and entered hers making my way to her bed she was tossing and turning and letting out screams worse than any I had heard from Moaning Myrtle. I decided to gently take her shoulders but she hit me hard in the gut. This caused me to double over so I figured that was not a good approach so I tried another. I backed away from the bed and tried to raise my voice to see if I could jolt her awake.
“Gill,” I yelled, “Gill wake up you’re okay.”
This approach also failed, her eyes didn’t open and she didn’t stop moving or screaming. I decided to take the risk in getting close to her again and I sat on the edge of the bed and slowly moved closer to her. Eventually I got close enough to her to put one arm under her back and pull her close to me trying to make her feel secure. I rubbed circles on her back and didn’t say a word. She squirmed and screamed and then burst into violent sobs. I whispered to her and held her and I could suddenly feel her body relax. I sighed in relief and suddenly her eyes popped open. At first she tried to fight against me and I decided to let her go so she could get her bearings.
“Yeah I didn’t mean to scare you I was just worried,” I was glad it was dark because she couldn’t see me blush.
“Did I wake you?”
“No I hadn’t fallen asleep yet.”
“Oh okay,” she settled back down onto her pillow.
“I’ll let you get back to sleep.”
I got up off the bed but then I heard her voice, “Draco?”
I turned back to her, “Yeah?”
“Uh well could you stay for a little while?”
I climbed back into the bed staying on top of the down comforter and sat up against the ornate oak headboard.
She giggled, “That looks pretty uncomfortable.”
I wriggled myself down until my head was lying on the pillow and I sat staring rigidly at the ceiling when I heard her giggle again.
“What?” I said arching my one eyebrow even though she couldn’t see it.
“You can get comfortable I have a feeling you don’t sleep like that in your bed.”
I chuckled, “Maybe I do.”
“Stiff as a board, on top of the blankets, head fixed staring at the ceiling?”
I could hear the sarcasm in her voice so instead of trying to defend myself I got up and adjusted the blankets and climbed back into the bed. I laid down on my side with my back to her and adjusted myself until I was completely comfortable.
“See isn’t that better?” she asked.
“Yeah you know everything now go to sleep,” I laughed.
She chuckled but said nothing else I just felt her get closer to me and press her back against mine. I smiled to myself and shortly later I heard her breathing in perfect rhythm meaning she was asleep. Before I could even consider going back to my room I was half asleep and I gave up on leaving and let sleep come to me.
The sun was a rude awakening I felt rested and still exhausted at the same time. I stretched as I usually do in the morning and accidently hit Gill right in the head.
“Owww jerk! See if I ever let you sleep in here again.”
My eyes grew wide and I jumped up and stared at her which only caused her to burst into a fit of hysterics and me to blush furiously. The previous night’s events quickly rushed back to me and I began to laugh to.
“Uh sorry,” I muttered only causing her to laugh more, “I’m uh going to go and change and yeah.”
I ran my hand through my shaggy blonde hair as I got up off the bed I looked and sounded like a moron. My only thought at the moment was to take my embarrassment into the privacy of my room. I stripped and jumped into the shower sure that she was still in her room giggling at my awkwardness. Once I was showered and dressed and back to my normal color it had taken nearly fifteen minutes to get the blushing to stop. I was sitting at the island in the kitchen eating eggs and toast when she came downstairs. She was wearing a pair of boxers and oversized t-shirt and her face had a huge smile plastered on it. She dug into the plate of eggs placed in front of her but never stopped smiling.
“I’m fine I slept great for the first time in what feels like forever and now I’m starving.” She replied shoveling eggs into her mouth.
I just smiled back I couldn’t argue I had slept better last night then I had since my mom died. After we finished breakfast we were sitting in silence when it was obvious the exact same thought hit us at the same time.
“Where is he?” she asked suddenly frowning.
“I don’t know and he obviously knows I am not actually his friend now.”
“I just wish he would leave.” She sighed.
“I know and eventually he will,” I hated knowing I had the power to make him leave and couldn’t use it.
“I wish eventually was now,” she replied.
I just nodded at her not really knowing what else to say.
“Listen I’m going to run to the office real quick I will be home in less than an hour.”
She nodded and surprised me by jumping up and hugging me. I had the biggest smile as I exited the front door and made my way to where I could apparate. I must’ve still been beaming when I entered the office because Harry noticed.
“Why are you so happy?” he paused, “Better yet why are you here?”
“Harry I want to get rid of him.” I said bluntly.
“Absolutely Draco that is completely against our laws.”
“What’s against our laws?” Ron popped in looked at me and comprehension dawned on his face.
“There’s got to be a loophole Harry,” I tried to plead.
“There’s not Draco I spent all night looking.”
For the first time I looked at Harry and saw the dark circles under his eyes.
“What about just sending him back to the States just so he’s gone?”
“We can’t use magic on him period Draco.”
I must’ve looked livid because he began to speak again, “I will keep looking though.”
Ron looked from Harry to me and mouthed, “It’s not fair we should be able to off the bloke.”
I smirked a little and Harry reached over and smacked Ron.
Ron shrugged, “What?”
“I know you agree with him,” Harry said pointing at me.
“Well he is right Colin should at least not be in London.”
Harry actually nodded, “Draco go home to her. Ron and I will keep looking to try and figure this out ok?”
I nodded, “Ok thanks Harry and thanks Ron.”
When I got home I found Gill laid out on the couch watching a movie. I was relieved she knew how to work the DVD player because I still hadn’t learned. She smiled at me when I walked in before returning her attention to the movie.
“Did you take care of what you needed to?”
I nodded as I sat in the chair, “For the most part.”
“Did you uh happen to-“
I cut her off, “Nope didn’t see him.”
She smiled a bit at one corner of her mouth which made me smile. I settled into the chair but couldn’t get involved in whatever vampire human werewolf sappy love triangle movie she was watching. I rolled my eyes at every other scene; I had met real vampires for merlin’s sake I had Greyback a real, true werewolf practically living at me house! I was lucky she didn’t catch any of my eye rolling or mutterings because I would’ve sounded like a crazy person. I watched her and it was cute she would sigh and say awe and smile; sometimes her eyes would get a little misty it was cute to watch her go through the emotions. I sat through two of those movies before she finally seemed done with them and began flipping through the other DVDs in the collection.
“Anything in particular you want to watch?” she looked over at me.
“Not really I’m actually thinking about going and making some lunch.”
Her eyes widened, “Can you cook?”
I chuckled, “Yes I can cook do you want to see?”
She got up off the couch, “I’m torn between wanting to see and not wanting to be inside when you burn the house down.”
“That’s it,” I grabbed her and threw her over my shoulder and headed off to the kitchen sitting her on one of the stools at the island.
I headed to the fridge and grabbed out some cheese, butter, and bread and then grabbed a skillet.
“You’re making grilled cheese?” she asked.
“Yes.” I said smiling, “Do you have a problem with that?”
She shook her head, “Go ahead and cook.”
I put butter on one side of each of the bread and put cheese on them and put the sandwiches on the hot skillet. The sandwiches took no time at all and we were quickly eating and enjoying our lunch. Afterwards we returned to the living room and she popped in a horror movie some flick with a muggle serial killer and I again was holding in my chuckles and rolling my eyes. This time though I would feel her looking at me every once and awhile and I knew our connection was finally growing. The spark that had ignited in me the moment I saw her was finally ignited in her as well and maybe this could begin to go somewhere. I wanted desperately to be able to be with her and to tell her everything no more secrets and no more living without magic. I even would settle for a normal magic less muggle life with her as long as we were together and happy. She was watching the television intently but I could tell she had seen this movie a bunch because she was mouthing some of lines which I thought was so cute. Half of me wanted to cuddle on the couch with her right now but the other half was telling me to stay where I was because feeling or not at this moment I didn’t want to have us start something when it could all end in tears. I thought hard as she watched her muggle movie and I realized my real hesitation was that boy who was running around London somewhere because I knew with him around she was going to be extremely wounded emotionally. I could tell the very thought of him made her terrified and I hated it. I was hoping to merlin Harry and Ron would find that loophole that would at the very least let me have been banished from London. At the very best the loophole would let me Avada Kedvra him, but I wasn't putting too much hope on that kind of loophole he was a nasty son of a bitch of a muggle but he wasn't Voldemort. With all these thoughts inside my brain I leaned my head back, suppressed a sigh, and looked at the ceiling and promised myself he would never see her again.
