“Okay, Okay, I’m moving.” I grumbled whilst untangling myself from the sheets and falling to the floor. You may be wondering if I’m always this cranky in the morning. Well I am. So you’ll just have to get over it. Everyone else manages just fine.
“Merlin Al, what's up with you?” Scorpius shot me a glare from across the room, whilst trying to find a matching pair of socks. This is normal, Scorpius can never find socks for some reason.
“Nothing” I replied whilst fumbling about putting on my own uniform. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of time you see. We always get up late and then have to rush to breakfast, it would be untraditional to stop doing it now.
Scorpius gave me a rather funny look. You know the one which just screams “I know there’s something up, but don’t worry you don’t have to tell me … I’ll just find out on my own.” What is it with Slytherins? Their just so … cunning!
“Let’s get going then, don’t want to miss the food” He said whilst grabbing his bag and walking out the door. Food… well that’s one way to take your mind of things. Sounds good to me!
Once we finally made it from the dungeons to the Great Hall we only had ten minutes until first lesson but that wasn’t going to put us off. We literally dug in. What can I say? It’s like Nanna Molly says, “A growing boy needs his food…” Couldn’t agree more with my dear old nan!
It was as I was finally forgetting all my troubles and helping myself to a bit of bacon, then she came in. This was just a reminder. A reminder of my shit week, last night included. It’s not really her fault. She doesn’t have a clue. She doesn’t know about Olivia. Why would she? No one other than my family knows about Olivia. I don’t want her to know about Olivia!
The problem is, well she’s the problem really. She’s just everything. She’s perfect in every single way and my biggest regret is that I didn’t realise it before! Don’t get me wrong, I’m upset that we lost in quidditch and I’m gutted that I have detention tomorrow night. But, the thing that really bothers me is her.
It’s the most annoying feeling in the world, every morning when I wake up I dread it. I dread seeing her. It’s horrible, I hate it. Yet, every morning when I wake up there’s a part of me that can’t wait. There’s a part of me that loves it. Most likely because in a really weird and possibly stalker like way, I love her. There, I’ve said it. The problem is that I know, from experience, that love just isn’t always enough.
“Dude, why don’t you just ask the girl out?” Damn you for being so immensely perceptive Scorpius.
“I can’t” I replied, he already knew my reasons why. He was the only person who wasn’t part of my family to know about Olivia.
“You’re going to have to get over it one day mate.” He stopped talking when I turned around to glare at him. The problem is that I just can’t get over it. I refuse to get over Olivia. Plus I won’t use her like that. I couldn’t do that to Anya.
“Just eat your pancakes and shut up.” I groaned at him whilst returning to my bacon. The only problem being that it just wasn’t quite as good as it was before.
The day went pretty quickly and before I knew it I was heading to the monthly family gathering. It’s probably the only place that I go without Scorpius. That might sound a bit gay but what can I say, he’s my wingman. Anyway, you may be thinking family gathering, what the fuck? Well I have a giant family and ever since my first year we meet up monthly. I have to admit it’s got better as the years have gone on. Like first year it was rather awkward but now James always brings a couple of bottles of fire whiskey, so it’s worth going to. As I walked into the room of requirement – which is where we always host our gatherings – Rose literally pounced on me.
“Oh My Gawd, Albus Severus Potter what have you done to me best friend? She shouted at me which caused every member of my family present to turn around and stare. Great.
“I just told her that we should be friends, why?” I replied calmly whilst trying to figure out if there was any form of escape. You see unfortunately we’re the kind of family that knows everything about every member. It can get very annoying. Unfortunately I couldn’t find an escape and I was stuck in front of Rose who kept opening and closing her mouth like a gold fish. At this point my brother decided to step in.
“If you ruin one of my best chasers then I will kill you little brother.” He declared, although I knew he was joking. Plus he wouldn’t be able to manage it anyway, I’m way better than him at Defence. I’m way better than anyone at defence actually.
“How am I ruining her? I told her we should be friends. She said that was what she wanted too.” I inwardly cringed as I remembered how well she’d taken the whole thing. I was actually starting to think she liked me, to find out she just wants to be friends sort of hurts a mans ego. Like seriously she’s unknowingly trampled on my pride!
“She said that?” interrupted Rose. Great trust my family to have one giant desire to hurt my pride even more. Trust me when I say as a Slytherin I don’t appreciate it.
“Yes, she thought the whole Owlery incident was a mistake too. We’ve both agreed we should just be friends” I said before being interrupted again but this time by James.
“Hold up little brother … what Owlery incident?” Shit. I forgot. I hadn’t told anyone and clearly by the look on Rose’s face Anya hadn’t told anyone either.
“Yeah Al, what happened in the Owlery?” asked Rose, suddenly looking very interested. It was at this point I noticed how quiet the rest of the family had got. Noisy buggers.
“Umm, did I say Owlery, I didn’t mean to say that, nothing happened in the owlery, nothing at all.” I stated while panicking. Totally need to learn how to keep cool in these situations.
“Hang on… I have a faint memory. You and Anya were in the Owlery when I found you during the Gryffindor victory party the other week.” James said as the pieces finally seemed to slip into place for him.
“I – Uhh, nothing happened” I said looking at my feet or really anywhere which wasn’t a family member.
“OH MERLIN, I interrupted something didn’t I? What did I interrupt? Tell me now!” Shouted James with a gleeful expression on his face.
Sometimes I just want to murder my brother. Unfortunately with the pressure of James shouting at me, Rose giving me scornful looks and my little sister giving me the whole raised eyebrow thing (she gets it from Mum), I caved.
“Well, weonlyalmostkissed” I mumbled really quickly hoping they wouldn’t quite catch it. Unfortunately Rose has excellent hearing.
“WHAT?” she screamed!
“Why didn’t you tell me that you were finally getting on her, even in my drunken state I would have fucked off!” Shouted James.
“James you ruin everything.” Said Lily whilst glaring at our older brother.
“What?” asked James after being distracted by Lily.
“If you hadn’t of got drunk he would’ve finally managed to get over bitch-face!” She shouted whilst her face started to match the colour of her hair. It’s that famous Weasley temper.
“SHUT UP!” Shouted Rose who took control of the situation. “So let me get this right, Albus, you almost kissed Anya before James ruined it and then you told her that you just wanted to be friends and she agreed with you?” Said Rose with a confused expression on her face.
“Well, that’s what I said wasn’t it” I grumbled, I was starting to get pretty annoyed at this moment. What is it with my family turning everything into a giant drama?
“Right… You’re such a twat Al” Rose glared at me before walking past me and out of the door.
“What was that about?” I looked over to my brother who seemed to share my confused expression.
“Women” muttered Fred from the other side of the room. It’s a good thing looks can’t kill because if they did then Fred would be long gone. Poor guy, he just can’t seem to grasp how volatile Weasley women are.
“So … Fancy some firewhiskey anyone? Madam Rosmerta sent me some up by owl.” James declared whilst looking rather proud of himself. Well you can always trust my older brother to bring the party with him.
“Definitely” I exclaimed as he poured me a cup and handed it over with his trademark smirk plastered on his face.
After we’d all helped ourselves to a couple of cups of Firewhiskey the atmosphere started to become less awkward. Though Lily did keep giving me her death glare. Eventually we finished the bottle and decided we better head back to our separate dorms. It was Friday tomorrow and I was starting to think I would regret my drinking when I had the killer hangover for Professor Chang’s class in the morning. Unfortunately being the only Wotter in Slytherin I was facing the walk to the dungeons alone whilst James, Fred, Hugo, Lily and Roxanne went back to Gryffindor tower, Molly and Louis headed to the Hufflepuff common room near the kitchens and Dominique and Lucy went to the Ravenclaw tower. Luckily I had the Invisibility cloak so at least I knew I wouldn’t get caught. James always guided everyone by using the map to see where teachers were.
It was as I was rounding the corner on the first floor that I came across her.
“Merlin, Anya, what are you doing here?” I said as I pulled the cloak off and went towards her. It was then I noticed the blotchiness of her face and the watery feature of her eyes. Shit. I’m crap with upset girls. At first I didn’t really know what to do. She wasn’t saying anything. This feels so awkward.
“Umm, why don’t you come back with me to the Slytherin dorms?” I stated before grabbing her hand and throwing the invisibilty cloak over the both of us. Well I could hardly leave her outside crying could I? Filch would catch her and James would kill me when she couldn’t go to practise because of detention. Plus I don’t like seeing her like this. Why do I always fall for the crazy girls? Damn Potter genes!
A/N - I hope people understand Al a bit better now and don't hate him! Plus I hope you liked seeing his family! I actually want to adopt them! Thanks for reading :) Alice
