I arrived at Arithmancy shortly.
Miss Accolati pulled me into the corner and all but screamed at me, "Listen. You and Miss Granger don't get along. But you will cooperate in my class. Or else ."
I have to admit; that scared me a bit. She was a vulture, and it made me worry. But, it gave me the perfect excuse to be nice to Granger during class.
Granger came in and sat down next to me, as usual. She glared at me and opened her book with a bang. Miss Accolati came over and whispered stuff to her while they both glared at me. Granger wasn't a good actor, she kept smiling and trying to hide it. I filed that away in my brain. Soon Miss Accolati began to teach, and my prime time with Granger began. I passed her a note asking how she was doing and if she was still mad at me. Thankfully she wasn't. She said she wasn't ever mad, that there was nothing to be mad about. Phew. The rest of Arithmancy passed quickly, without incident. I had double Potions next, which wasn't so bad. After that, there was Charms, and then lunch in the Great Hall.
Today at lunch I noticed Dumbledore was missing from his usual spot at the head table. Professor McGonagall walked up to the podium where the Headmaster usually made his announcements.
"Attention, everyone," Her voice echoed through the hall as almost everyone turned to look towards her. She waited until all was quiet, then continued, "You may have noticed our Headmaster has been gone today. He is getting ready for the feast. You must be ready by 5:00 tonight for an announcement he shall make. It is mandatory to attend. Also, there is no more lessons for the rest of the day. That is all."
She stepped down off the podium again, and instantly the room filled with buzzing. I don't know about the other Houses, but Slytherin all wanted to know what the Headmaster had to say that was so important that lessons would be called off so he could say it. I went to the common room Hermione and I shared, hoping to hear her thoughts on dinner tonight.
Hermione was, as always, sitting down in front of the fire with her nose in a book. I closed the door quietly behind me and sat down next to her with a smirk.
"So Granger, what's your brilliant ideas for the Feast tonight? Already know what old Dumbledore is gonna say?"
She looked at me funny and went back to reading. "Actually," she said over the top of her book, "I have no idea. What time is it?"
I looked at the clock and relayed the information. I headed upstairs to begin getting ready.
I walked into the Great Hall at 5:00, and immediately gasped in surprise. The four House tables had been replaced with 8 smaller ones, placed in a wide circle around this cup-thingy. Dumbledore stood in the center by the cup.
As soon as I walked in, I was ushered to a seat by Malfoy, and a bunch of guests. Many Durmstrang students were there, with their Headmaster, Head Karkaroff, at the staff table in it's usual location. Fewer, but still many, Beauxbatons pupils were there, represented by Madame Maxime at the staff table.
I glanced around at the other tables. One had many smaller children, who I assumed were first years. That one was directly next to my table to the left. To the right of our table, there was older students, who I recognized as seventh years. Straight across the circle was the fourth years, Harry and Ginny looking at me worriedly. Draco tapped my arm and whispered into my ear.
"There's a table for each year. As Head Boy and Girl, we get the honor of sitting at the guest table. The Headmaster should begin shortly."
I waited about another 5 minutes. No sign of any intention to begin. Another couple minutes passed. I was beginning to get hungry. Just as I started to think we would never begin, two people crashed in through the main doors. I recognized both Mr. Bagman and Mr. Crouch from the Quidditch World Cup. They sat in two empty chairs at the staff table, which was now full. Dumbledore turned to look at us, preparing to speak.
"Welcome students! I must take barely a moment of your time, before we eat. I have a big announcement tonight. Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard Tournament."
The Great Hall filled with noise as everyone started hurriedly discussing this new development. I myself was confused, as some of the others were.
"Quiet!" Headmaster Dumbledore said loudly, effectively hushing the whispers. He continued,
"The moment has come. The Triwizard Tournament is about to start. There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways... Their magical prowess -- their daring -- their powers of deduction -- and of course their ability to cope with danger.
"Three champions compete in the Triwizard Tournament. one from Durmstrang, Beauxbatons, and Hogwarts. They will be judged and scored on how well they perform each of the Tournament tasks and the champion with the highest total after jtask three will win the Triwizard cup. The champions will be chosen by an impartial selector: the Goblet of Fire."
Dumbledore took out his wand and tapped the cup. It lit up in blue-white flames. "Anybody wishing to compete as champion for their school must write their name and school clearly, no scribbles, on a strip of parchment and drop it into the goblet. Aspiring champions have twenty-four hours in which to put their name in the goblet. Tomorrow night the goblet shall return the Names of the three it has chosen as best to represent their schools. To prevent young students from entering, I have placed an age line around the Goblet. Only 4th year and up may enter. You have until tomorrow night. Good night to you all."
Dumbledore's speech is partially JK Rowlings, from HPGF, page 255. Most of it I made up. Sorry it took so long to post, I had issues with Validation lining right up with the staffs vacation. The rest of it should go faster, I've written like up to chapter 18 :) Thank you so much to all my reviewers, I really like hearing from all of you :) That's all for now
