Dear Disaster Button,
My sister's favourite band is Snow Patrol. She loves playing it at top volume. They're not bad but I like The Fray better.

Tribute isn't a random name. Have you heard of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins? Well, they have tributes and I love the series, so yeah.

I'm not a huge Quidditch fan but it's ok.

So what exactly are we supposed to be talking about in these letters?

From Tribute

I was just finishing off my letter when Rose came storming into the library.

"Stupid cousin," she muttered under her breath as she flopped into the seat next to me.

"James?" I raised my eyebrows. Rose nodded furiously at me.

"It's stupid. Him, Louis and Fred, that is. They seem to make it their life mission to never let me date," Rose sighed, "I mean, I'm surprised they haven't attempted to hex Luke into oblivion yet."

"They, can't be that bad, Rose."

"The last time a guy even started to hint he liked me, James and Fred ambushed him in a corridor. We found him the next day in the Great Hall hanging upside down with no trousers on," Rose said.

"Fine, but still-"

"And the guy before that. Well, Jeremy kissed me at a victory party and a drunk Fred and Louis and James came after him," Rose's voice was raising in pitch with every word, "They didn't get him. He ran away but the next day the idiot was talking to his friends about it during Potions and Fred blew up a Confusing Concoction at him which caused Jeremy to confess his undying love for Professor Harvey who at the time was ninety seven."

"That's not too bad," I said, "it just seems embarrassing but other-"

"Oh, and then the next day Jeremy decided that he wanted revenge on Fred which ended up with most of the fourth year guys in the Hospital wing. Jeremy had to be taken to Saint Mungo' while James escaped with a bloody nose," Rose finished.

"I haven't met this Jeremy guy yet," I said curiously.

"That was because he moved to Beaubatons two weeks after the incident," Rose said grimly.

"Oh."

"Exactly,' Rose said and sighed again, "I wish they would just grow up! I mean, I don't go around hexing their girlfriends!"

"You should jinx them one day, their girlfriends that is, just to show them what its like," I said and rolled up my letter to Disaster Button. Rose laughed loudly.

"I wouldn't have the heart to do it! Besides, I like Freya and Sarah."

"Freya is going out with one of them?" I asked, shocked.

"Yeah. It's Freya and Louis and Sarah and Fred," Rose explained. I was crushed, absolutely crushed, when Rose told me that Louis already had a girlfriend.

"I never realised that Freya and Louis were a couple," I said, trying to hide my disappointment.

"Yep, for almost a year now. When were in big groups and stuff, they really act it but they are really adorable when they don't think anyone's looking," Rose said.

"Rose Weasley! Have you been perving on your cousin?" I teased her. She blushed, which clashed horribly with her hair.

"Of course not!" She said in mock horror, "It's hard not to notice when you're trying to do your homework and they're practically attacking each other."

"Ewwww, bad image," I said and whacked my forehead, "Bad bad image."

"Now look who's the perv!"

The hardest part is dealing with the emptiness.

The scariest part is that it doesn't hurt.

The most frightening part is that sometimes I couldn?t care less.

The worst part is the paranoia that comes along with it. I know that know one knows but I can't help feeling like a freak every time I walk down the corridor.

See those two girls whispering? How do I know that they aren't talking about me?

Or that couple standing over there? What if that guy is telling his girlfriend to stay away from me?

And how about that massive group of girls who just suddenly burst out laughing? What if they are laughing at me?

"Hey, Tessa," Maddy says as she falls into step beside me. She flashes me a small smile and I feel the corners of my mouth turn upwards. Maybe everything was going to be okay.

Rose and I became really good friends, despite the supposed 'rift between the houses'.

"You like him, don't you?" Rose said one day when we were sitting by the black lake.

"Who?" I asked even though I knew perfectly well who she was referring to.

"Louis," she said.

"What makes you say that?" I said, trying, and failing, to pretend that Rose had got it all wrong.

"You always look at him," Rose teased, "And you always sit up straighter whenever he's around."

"Surely you can't tell from just that!"

"Well...amongst other things, it's pretty obvious," Rose said slipped her bookmark into her book.

"It doesn't matter even if I do like him," I sighed after a while.

"Why not?" Rose asked.

"He has Freya," I said in a 'duh' voice.

"Who has Freya?" James said as he plopped down next to me.

"Louis," Rose said.

"Well, whatever the woes, I think we all deserve..." James reached into him bag, "BROWNIES!"

James peeled open the top of the container and let the rich chocolatey smells waft over.

"What do you want, James?" Rose said suspiciously but I could tell she was salivating over the brownies. To be fair, so was I.

"Nothing," James said with innocent eyes, "Why can't I bring my favourite cousin and her friend brownies?"

"Try again, James," Rose said with a laugh, "What do you want in return?"

"Nothing."

"Seriously, bum brain, what are you trying to bribe us for?" Rose said. Her eyes were fixed on the box of chocolate brownies.

"Well," James said and looked away nervously, "Luke-"

"Stop right there, buddy," Rose said sharply, "Don't even think for a second you can bribe me with brownies to not go to Hogsmeade with Luke."

"Well, could Louis and Fred and I follow you, then?" James asked hopefully.

"Absolutely not!" Rose said, "Now pass those brownies."

James held the box out with a dejected face and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor bloke. I mean, he was just trying to protect his cousin, right?

On the other hand, I thought that James should just let his cousin go.

Suddenly, James sat up straight and something wicked glinted in his eye.

"How about a double date then?" He said excitedly.

"With who?" Rose said suspiciously.

"You and Luke with me and..." James glanced around wildly before his eyes landed on me.

Oh dear.

He announced triumphantly, "Me and Tessa!"

"No! Absolutely not!" I said and stood up.

"Awww, come on, Tessa," James pleaded and looked at me with big puppy dog eyes. I sighed but I could already feel my resolve weakening. Rose sent me a pleading look. I shook my head and then sat down again.

"Just leave them alone, James," I said, "Let them have some private time."

"But what happen if their private time gets too private?" James cried.

"James, come on. It's not like she's twelve," I said.

"Yeah, James!" Rose said, nodding furiously.

"Rose, Luke is..." James gestured, trying to think of the right word, "...shifty."

"James," Rose said, "Luke is a Hufflepuff."

"Exactly!" James said triumphantly.

"Ok, that makes no sense," Rose said and shook her head. She got up and left.

"Good job, James," I said sarcastically.

"What?!" He exclaimed, "I have a theory that all Hufflepuffs are evil and this innocence is just all a cover up!"

"Riiiight," I said and rolled my eyes, "You should just let Rose grow up."

"But what if she gets hurt?" James said.

"You can't protect her forever, James," I said and decided to go see whether Rose was okay, "You goodness sake, she's almost 17!"

I picked up my stuff and went to leave when James grabbed my arm.

"Wait-" he said and then bit his lip nervously, "Do you still want to go to Hogsmeade with me?"

I froze in shock. Was James Potter asking me out? What was I supposed to say?

If my life was a movie there would some soppy violin music.

Oh dear Merlin. Help me.

Please.

"Ummm..." I said as I felt the heat creep up in my cheeks.

"I mean to make sure Rose is ok," James said quickly.

All that violin music stopped as quickly as it started.

"Oh..." I said and then felt my cheeks turn an even brighter shade of red, "Of course. Sure"

I laughed awkwardly.

"Ok, well...see you tomorrow then," James said and then speed of in the direction of the castle.

I sighed loudly.

Of course, the first time a guy asks me out he actually means 'will you help me spy on my cousin who also happens to be your best friend?'

I was studying in the common room when a dark haired girl plopped down onto the couch next to me.

"Oh," I said as I looked up, "Hello, Layla."

"Hi, Tessa," she said brightly.

"What's up?"

"I was just wondering," She said, "because you're going to Hogsmeade tomorrow if you could get me and my friends a few things. We'll pay you back and everything."

"Sure thing. What do you need?" I suddenly remembered that I had promised James we would spy on Rose, "I'm actually got me stuff I need to do, but if I have time, I'll get it for you."

Layla handed me a list.

"Everything is from Weasley Wizarding Wheezes so they shouldn't be too hard to find," Layla explained.

"Weasley Wizarding Wheezes...ok, got that," I said as I scanned the list, "What is this stuff anyway? Extendable ears? A skiving snackbox? And ten-second pimple vanisher?"

Layla nodded furiously.

"Me and my friends really need it. As well as all the other stuff on the list."

"That's a lot of stuff, Layla," I said, "You guys sure you can afford it?"

"Yep, we're pooling our money and we've bought it all before," Layla said, her head still bouncing up and down vigorously.

"Okay, sure," I said and laughed as Layla bounded back up the stairs to her dorm.

"Oh dear," Louis said as he took Layla spot, "What drugs did you just sell the poor kid?"

"What?" I exclaimed, "I just agreed to buy Layla drugs?" Louis threw his head back as her laughed.

"No, they're my uncle's joke shop products," Louis snorted. I sighed with relief.

"So they're not illegal?" This question seemed to crack up Louis more than anything else.

"No!"
