A/N: OMD! It’s been so long since I’ve updated! And so, in apology, here is a little chapter I wrote for you :)

It was the night of the dance. And. I. Was. Not. Happy.

Why? Because I had to go with James. Freakin’. Potter.

It didn’t even really matter. It was just the end of the year dance, a way to mark our last days as fifth years. Next year we’d be sixth years, just a step closer to being in the real world. But I had to spend tonight with him. I’m not sure why it bugged me so much, but it sure as hell did. I took a breath and looked around at all my friends.

Ella was making faces in the mirror, practicing different reactions for every scenario she could think of. My best friend was such a weirdo. She was wearing a tight-fitting black halter dress that had a cute, vintage look to it, and strappy black wedges, elongating her already perfect legs(I’d threatened to steal them from her many times). On her wrists she had many bright colored bracelets, and her makeup was sweet and pink themed. Her hair, up in an intricate ponytail, had been done by Sirius, who was weirdly good at that sort of thing.

Melanie was on her laptop, writing a complaint to some company, saying that her pillows weren’t fluffy enough. She did stuff like that a lot, and she always got a full refund. Her look was simple, a satin strapless red sweetheart dress with matching lipstick and mary-janes. Her wavy black hair was swept to one side.

My dress had been chosen by Ella, shopping makes me catatonic. It was silky and emerald green, though kind of short for my taste. I hated uncomfortable shoes, so I’d gone with silver high top converse, much to Ella’s disdain.

But it was Cassie who stole the show when it came to looks, tonight. Sirius had tamed her uncontrollable curls into flowy waves, and she wore a long, equally flowy turquoise dress that looked like the ocean. She’d given in to taking off her glasses, and all of it together made her look like a full-on goddess. At the moment she was spinning in circles and watching her dress spin, she’d been doing this for an hour now.

Suddenly, she stopped, “It is time.”

We all nodded and walked down the stairs to meet the boys in the common room. I couldn’t help but smile as I looked around, all the Gryffindors were glowing in their fancy outfits.

And then I saw James. Er, Potter. I won’t admit he looked good in that dress shirt and tie, but I can’t say he looked bad either.

Damnit, he caught me staring at him.

“Do you have a library card, Evans? Because I do believe you were just checking me out.”

I groaned, I didn’t have any good comebacks, “Gag me with a spoon, Potter.”

That was good enough to shut him up, but he still chuckled.

“C’mon, Evans, please dance with me?” Potter pleaded. The Great Hall was decorated beautifully, and music was blasting my ear drums.

I looked up at him with a smirk, “Sorry, I don’t feel like dancing. Maybe you should have come with a different date.”

“But I only want to be with you.”

His response caught me off guard, but I shook it off.

“Get me some punch, will you?”

“Anything for you,” he sighed, slightly sarcastic. But he went off to the punch bowl anyways.

I smiled. I had the upper hand here, and Potter would just have to deal with it.

He came back with the punch, still pouting.

“Here you go.”

“Thank you, James.”

He smiled at me.

“What?”

His smile got bigger, “You called me James.”

I realized he was right, “Err…”

“You called me James! Not Potter! Hah! You haven’t called me by my first name since third year when-“ He stopped himself short when he saw me cringe at the memory. He decided not to bring it up.

“Yeah, so what. I called you by your first name. Don’t expect it to happen again,” I took a drink from my cup.

He shrugged, still grinning.

“Hey, Lils?”

“Don’t call me that.”

“Hey, Lily?”

“Haven’t we had enough first name basis for tonight?”

“Hey, Evans?”

“What, Potter?”

“Do you want to leave and go get a bite at Hogsmeade?” He smiled big, trying hard to get his dimples to show.

“Stop smiling like that, it’s weird! And no, I’m not hungry,” I lied. I actually was running on empty.

He gave me puppy dog eyes, “But I AM hungry!”

I rolled my eyes and handed him my purse, “Here, I have some candy hidden somewhere in there.”

He started to open it when I remember what was in there.

“Wait, no don’t look in there!” I felt like I was yelling in slow motion in some movie.

It was too late; he’d already seen what I had in there. And I could already tell he was about to have a field day.

Damn it, Melanie.

But he didn’t say anything. He just looked at me with gratified expression and took out the candy, though I knew he’d seen the Spiderman boxers I’d been dared to stash in there. He unwrapped the candy and ate it, watching me try to think of something to say as he handed me back my purse.

So I didn’t say anything. We just sat there, watching each other, like we were two cobras waiting for the other to strike.

Luckily, stupid Melanie came to save the day.

“Me and Black were gonna go down to Hogsmeade for some food. You two wanna come?”

“Evans isn’t hungry,” He said, never taking his smug eyes off mine.

“I could eat,” I interjected, also keeping eye contact.

“Err, okay?” Mel said, still slightly confused. I knew she’d make me tell her every detail of what happened as soon as we were out of the boys’ company.

We slipped out of the Great Hall and walked down to Hogsmeade. I instantly strayed away from Potter and toward Melanie once we were out of there, but I just as quickly regretted it when I saw him whisper something to Black.

I then watched as Sirius looked over at me, a goofy grin on his face. I blushed and looked away, mortified. Potter had surely told him about the underwear incident.

Oh Merlin, what had I done to deserve this?

We got to the Three Broomsticks and sat down. Mel noticed the suspicious triangle of expressions going on, James and Sirius looking at me and me glaring at the both of them.

“Lily?” she asked, “Will you accompany me to the restroom, please?”

“Sure,” I said, happy to get out of there.

We walked through the swinging door of the bathroom that was in the pub, and she turned around to look at me with a questioning expression.

“It’s all your fault!” I shouted at her.

She snorted, “Ohmygod, he found his boxers, didn’t he?”

“Yes! He did!”

“Well that explains the weird eye contact thing you guys were doing.”

I glared at her. Me and Mel had a seriously love/hate relationship.

She laughed, “Lils, it’s fine. This doesn’t change anything about your guys’ relationship. Well, unless you really want it to.”

“Ugh, Mel, you don’t understand! When it comes to Potter and me, everything is a game. And you just gave him the upper hand!”

She frowned at me, “It doesn’t have to be like that..”

“Well, it is.”

I stomped out of the bathroom to our table, where I looked at James, “I’m not hungry anymore. Let’s go back to the dorms.”

“But we haven’t even gotten our drinks yet-“

“I want to leave!”

“Okay! Okay!” He got up quickly, “Err, see ya Padfoot.”

Sirius just smiled, “Bye. Oh, and Evans, if you ever want any more of Prongsy here’s undergarments, I’m sure I could get you some..”

My face turned bright red as I stormed out, Potter fumbling to keep up behind me. I said nothing the whole way back, though James kept opening his mouth like he was about to speak then changing his mind.

We finally reached the Fat Lady.

“Big booty bitches,” Potter said the password sheepishly, though it’d been him and Black who’d figured out how to change it to that.

I rolled my eyes and walked in. He walked to me to the stairs.

“I had a nice time tonight,” He told me.

I looked at him like he was crazy, “Are you serious?”

One of those trademark grins crept onto his face, “I was with you the whole time. It was one of the best nights of my life.” I couldn’t help but smile, but then he continued, “Plus, I was quite happy with the contents of your purse.”

I slapped his arm, “We WERE having a moment just now until you ruined it.”

“We were?” He grinned.

“Don’t get too excited.”

He smiled and walked towards the boy’s dormitory, but, just before he walked in, he put his hands in the air and happily shouted, “WE HAD A MOMENT!”

I couldn’t help but smile at that.

A/N- So not my best chapter, but I thought it was okay. In more apology for not updating in so long, I have decided to start including character pictures after every story. So here’s Melanie!
