Stirring from my sleep, I felt something warm on my left side and looked down to see Lola fast asleep. Smiling a little, I carefully got up out of bed as not to wake her. Taking advantage of the quiet dorm, i took a long hot shower before getting dressed. Slipping my shoes on, I sat down on the edge of my bed and gently tapped Lola.
“Hey sweetie, you’ve got to get up now.” She stirred slightly but made no other movement. Sighing, not wanting to use water to get her up but seeing no other option, I picked up my wand.
“Augamenti.” Within seconds, there was a scream, followed by the sound of my laughter filling the whole dorm.
“Get up and get dressed, classes start in 10 minutes.” Not giving her a chance to shout at me, I left the dorm, heading down to the common room. As I entered, I saw Evan and Rabastan sitting together, looking like they were having a rather heated argument. Approaching quickly, they instantly stopped talking when they spotted me.
“I’ve got to go. I’ll see you guys later.” Rabastan left quickly and I took his seat.
“What was that about?”
Evan glared at me before standing up. “I don’t know what you mean. I’ll see you in potions.”
As he left, I sighed. Evan and Rabastan talking wasn’t good and it couldn’t end well. Let me explain why. Evan liked me, well Evan liked every girl but he had made it very clear since third year that he liked me more than a friend. I took in it my stride, ignoring his attempts at flirting and his innuendos. I kept him strictly at arm’s length and vowed to this day, that nothing would ever happen. And it hadn’t much to Evan’s dismay. Rabastan however, is a different story. I hadn’t really noticed him until the summer of 5th year, when we had a big gathering at my manor, for all the pureblood families. The whole night was torture and I ended up hiding outside, away from everyone. It was then that Rabastan and I got talking. He escaped too and we ended up drinking and laughing and passing the time. When we got back to Hogwarts for 6th year, it was only then that I realised he was attractive. Short brown hair, slim strong build and clear blue eyes…I was completely taken aback by what I was feeling. I kept it quiet for a couple of months after that train ride and it was only at Christmas, after avoiding Rabastan since September that something happened between us. He cornered me, admitted he liked me and told me he knew I liked him before kissing me. Ever since that moment, we had kept our relationship quiet, knowing that Pedro would not be impressed that his close friend was dating his twin. We had lasted the whole of the school year and throughout the holidays. It was only when he started to act strangely that I called things off. Now I realised what had made him act strangely – Voldemort and the fact that he was now one of his faithful followers. Although I still have feelings for him, there is no way that I could ever be with him and he knew this. So we decided that we would never tell anyone about what we had. But seeing Evan and Rabastan talking, and seeing Evan’s face made me feel on edge.
Heading straight to potions after saying sorry to Lola for this morning’s antics, I took my usual seat at the back of the room and waited for the other students to come in.
I turned my head quickly to the left to see Rabastan sitting next to me.
“Who knows what?” I asked, although I had a feeling that I already knew who it was who knew.
“Evan. About me and you.”
“And how does he know about it?”
Rabastan shrugged. “I have no idea. He just came up to me this morning shouting about how he knew that I had slept with you…” I snorted at that. “and how he was going to tell your brother.”
At that, my eyes widened. “If Pedro finds out, we’re both dead because if he knows, then my father will know and he will either kill you or he will make you marry me. Neither option is exactly desirable. I need to find Pedro, quickly.”
“Well here he comes.”
I turned to see Pedro entering potions with Rayne at his side, her eyes shooting me daggers across the room as she took her seat. Standing up and ignoring her, I made my over to Pedro.
“Hey, little brother. Any chance I can have a word with you after class?” He looked at me and nodded.
“No reason, just want a chat. Meet me outside?” He nodded and I walked back to my empty table, Bas having taken his normal seat in front of me. He turned around to give me a small, and what was meant to be a reassuring smile before turning back to the front, where Slughorn had now taken his place.
“So, what’s up?” Pedro stood against the wall, looking cool and collected, attracting looks from the slutty girls in Slytherin. I glared at them before smiling at my brother.
“I need to tell you something before Evan does and you’re not going to like it so can we go find somewhere quiet that you won’t draw attention.”
He nodded, looking confused but led the way to a quiet, abandoned classroom.
Sitting down on one of the tables, I tried to speak a couple of times but the words weren’t forming. Instead, I focused on the wall behind Pedro’s head and didn’t speak.
“What the hell, 'Ela? If you’re not going to tell me what is going on then I will ask Evan himself and I am su-“
“I slept with Rabastan!” I shouted, interrupting him mid speech. I hid my face from him, not wanting to see his features in an angry scowl.
“Is that it? I already knew about that, 'Ela. You’re not as sneaky as you’d like to think you are.”
I looked at him in shock.
“So, you already knew about the whole relationship?” He nodded. “And you’re not mad?” He shook his head again.
“He made you happy, happier then I had seen you in a long time so who was I to stop you?”
I smiled at him, standing up and closing the gap between us, giving him a hug.
“Love you little brother.”
“Love you too. Now let’s move before this becomes something out of a romance book. It’s already bad enough that I had to think about you and Lestrange together, I do not want to sit here and discuss details.”
I laughed and took his arm as we walked out of the room and headed for the Great Hall.
Spotting Evan at the table, I made sure I walked passed him. Bending down to his ear, I snarled.
“He already knows about Bas and I, so nice try but if you ever so much as think about crossing me Evan, I will make you pay. Be sure of it.” He said nothing so I walked further up the table, taking a seat opposite my brother and Lucius. Grabbing a plate, I smiled.
"So, what’s going on today then?”
“Hey Bas, wait up.” Rabastan stopped at the bottom of the stairs and waited for me, smile on his face. “Can we go somewhere a little more private?” He nodded and I walked, once again into an abandoned classroom. It was definitely becoming a habit of mine.
“It’s all sorted. Pedro already knew about us.”
I nodded. “He did and he was perfectly fine with it. Shocking news. I just wanted to let you know and to know that I had a little word with Evan so he really shouldn’t be bothering you again. And if he does, just let me know.” He nodded. “Well, I better go. I’ll see you around Bas.”
I turned and looked at him strangely. “What’s up?”
“What happened? To me and you, I mean.”
I sighed. I had been expecting sooner or later.
“The Dark Lord happened. You can’t tell me that you are not seriously involved in this whole thing. And that scared me, it still does. You’re so involved that I don’t know if I would be safe around you. That you wouldn’t do something to save me if you were told otherwise.”
“I am involved, I admit to that. But don’t ever, ever think that I wouldn’t protect you. I would give my life to save you Gi. I lo-“
“Please don’t say.” I spoke quietly but I knew he heard me.
“But I do.”
I nodded. “I know but I can’t hear it. Not yet anyway.”
“Does that mean I still have a chance?” He walked closer to me, close enough that I could feel his body heat.
I looked up into his blue eyes. “Maybe.”
He smiled before kissing me.
“That’s enough for me.”
And then he left, leaving me standing there, my finger to my lips, feeling them tingle slightly.
Hearing clapping behind me, I turned on my heels quickly, seeing no other than Sirius Black standing in the door way, smirk on his face.
“I see the bruises Evan gave you haven’t disappeared yet. I bet your ego is also bruised too, isn’t it?”
He glared slightly as he walked fully into the classroom. “I would say your boyfriend did a bang up job but he isn’t your boyfriend, is he? Lestrange is.”
“How would you know?” I sneered.
“Because I happened to catch you sneaking about last year. Not so sneaky for a Slytherin but then again, you were too busy ripping each other’s clothes off all the time that being sneaky wasn’t top on your list of priorities.”
“So, you were spying on us? Sounds like it, that’s for sure. Were you not getting enough action that you needed to watch me and Bas to get your kicks?”
“Don’t be so full of yourself Martinez. You’re not that hot.”
I smirked. “But I am hot, obviously. So, what happened if I was to come closer to you, like this?” I walked towards him, until we were just about chest to chest.
“Well how about if I do this?” I stood on my tiptoes, just about tall enough to reach his ear. Placing my hands on his shoulders gently, I breathed lightly on his ear before nibbling slightly.
I smirked, leaning back to see his face. “I don’t believe you. But if that’s how you want to play it then how about this?”
Leaning closer once more, I pressed soft kisses along his jaw line, feeling him stiffen before relaxing into my touch. As I reached his chin, I moved my lips to the corner of his mouth, giving him a feather light kiss before he captured my mouth with his and he was kissing me passionately. I couldn’t help but moan as he pressed me against the cold stone wall, his rough actions making me shiver. After a couple of minutes, I pushed him away, a smirk on my face.
“How about that?”
He didn’t answer.
“Yes. Nothing at all. How Lestrange stayed with you so long and why Rosier has the hots for you, I have no idea.”
His mentioned of Evan made me think. He knew about me and Bas. And he would never willingly include Evan in a conversation unless he was trying to tell me something. Then it clicked.
“It was you! You told Evan.”
“And it finally clicks. The Sorting Hat was definitely right not to place you in Ravenclaw.”
I let out a yell. “You bastard! You have no right interfering in my life! It has nothing to do with you!”
“I beg to differ when it is your life that is going to get me killed.”
“What is that meant to mean?”
“Well if my idea of trying to save you from this mess you have got yourself into goes awry, which it is bound to, then I will probably end up dead.”
“Why are you trying to save me? I don’t need saving from anyone.”
He chuckled. “Now that is a lie. Now I think you should be grateful and make my job easier by letting me save you now!”
No chance. Now leave me the fuck alone Black.” I stormed past him, barging into him for extra emphasis before opening the wooden door.
“I won’t stop until I do it.”
“Then you will be continually losing a battle that you will never win. “
“You’ll soon realise that you need my help. And when you do, I will make sure to gloat for a very long time.”
“You’re a bastard. For telling Evan and for just being alive in general. I don’t need you, or Evan or Pedro or Bas. I don’t need anyone and the sooner you realise it, the sooner you can go back to your boring little life here in the castle and stop interfering in mine.”
Storming out, I quickly walked down the empty corridor cursing at every painting who dared to look at me in my foul mood.
“Martinez, wait!” I ignored Black’s pleas, instead walking faster knowing Evan has busted his leg good and proper so he wouldn’t be able to catch me up.
“Just fucking wait, will you.”
Ignoring him once more, it was only when a painting yelled at me that I finally stopped.
"What?” I yelled, frustrated as hell.
“I’m only trying to help you because I know you feel like you don’t have any other choice but to go through with what you are doing but I want to show you that it’s not the only option you have. You don’t have to want it but you have it. Just know that.” And with that, he walked away.
Sighing, I made my way to the common room, dropping down onto the nearest available chair and closing my eyes.
“Stressful day?” I opened my eyes to see Rayne sitting opposite me. I didn’t answer, instead I closed my eyes again.
“I’m sorry. I don’t even remember why we’re not talking anymore.” Resisting an eye roll, I opened my eyes again and looked at her.
“Well, it has something to do with the fact that you think you need to know everything that is going on in my life.”
“Okay, I get it. I’m sorry, I really am. Can we just go back to the way we were?”
I nodded. I had missed her, not that I would admit it to her. “Okay.”
“Great. Now tell me about you and Bas, what’s going on? I saw you talking to him so spill.”
Rolling my eyes, I smiled slightly. “Sometimes I think you are only friends with me for gossip.”
She feigned hurt, her hand resting on her heart. “I am deeply hurt.”
Laughing, I began to tell her about Evan and Bas, skilfully leaving out the part about Black telling Evan, enjoying her company like I used to. It was shame I knew it was never going to last.
