I tried to open my eyes, but bright light prohibited me.
"Hello?" I called out, but there escaped no sound. I started to panic.
I tried and tried to cry out, but I made no sound.
"It's okay," I heard a distant voice say, but I couldn't make out where it came from.
"You're safe now."
She bent over me, and I saw her face. Long hair, so black it had a blue tint to it. She had bright blue eyes, and her skin pale.
I choked on the question I wanted to ask, not sure I would make any sound now either.
"Am I dead?" I choked it out, but it was a mere whisper.
She smiled down at me. "You just go back to sleep. You need to rest."
I blinked, and the minute she'd mentioned it I felt drained. Would you feel drained if you were dead? Well I guess so …
"She's going to be okay, right?"
"She's stabile for now."
I might've been exhausted, but I could make out as much as a male voice and a female voice.
I recognised the woman's voice from earlier. Guess I wasn't dead then…
"For now?" the male voice growled. He didn't seem very pleased.
"I'm sorry, sir, but she has severe bruises and cuts. It will take time for her to heal."
I try to sit up, bright light still blinding my vision. "Hello?" I call out, my voice croaked as my throat is as dry as the Sahara dessert.
I feel a large hand on my forehead, carefully pushing me back down. "Rest."
That's when I recognise his voice, and I feel torn. I want to grab for his hand, but at the same time I'm scared.
I shake my head, lifting my arm to try and shield myself from the light so I can see his perfectly lined face.
"Where am I?"
"St Mungos. I brought you here when the others were busy."
This time I didn't hesitate, and grabbed his hand.
"You'll get in trouble…"
Draco didn't disagree with me, so I held onto his hand a bit tighter.
"Rest, all right?" he said as he gently pulled his hand back, and started to walk towards the exit.
"Don't go," I called after him. "Please. Please, don't go."
I could hear him sigh.
He turned his head and looked at me, shaking his head.
"Please, just let me go," he begged, but I shook my head.
"No," I protested. "I can't do that. Because I feel. I feel everything."
Draco closed his eyes, drawing a shaky breath. "Kaya, stop."
"You stop! Stop pretending I'm some little girl with a crush on you, and stop pretending you don't feel the same way. I care about you, and I know you care about me, too!"
Draco tightened his grip around the cot sides of my bed.
He looked up at me, but now his eyes were like glass. "If I let myself care," he started, his voice lacking so much emotion that I tried to reach for his hand, but he yanked away. "If I let myself care, all I feel is pain."
"Now, for once, do as you're told!" he sneered, and for the second time he turned to leave. But before he could exit, I called after him.
"If you walk away now, you'll lose me forever."
I begged for my miracle to happen. I begged for him to come back to me.
But he stood frozen for a few moments, until he eventually walked out the door and left me behind him.
A/N: I apologise for the extremely short chapter, and I'm not the least but happy about it - guess it's one of those chapters your just have to get out of the way for the story to continue. Still would've liked your thoughts, though.
